Hey loves!! I was checking my email the other day for tracking info on a few packages and noticed an email from Topbox. I had completely forgotten but months ago I signed up for Glam Sense. Basically you put your name on a list and they will contact you to review products if they find a good fit for you. I signed up, and lo and behold, months later I got a box in the mail to review one of my favourite hair care brands! Yay!
*disclaimer: These products were sent to me complimentary from Glam Sense in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. This is not a sponsored post.
I’ve been using John Frieda for years. I first used their Sheer Blonde line when I was maybe 14 and eventually moved on to the Frizz Ease line. I’ve been using it consistently since then, occasionally shaking it up with something different but always returning to the line. I honestly don’t do much for my hair in terms of styling. I believe one of the best things you can do for you hair is leave it alone; However, depending on the occasion I might add some curls. Instead of telling you what I think about these products I’ll first show you some pictures of my hair styled with and without using John Frieda Frizz Ease!
On the left I styled my hair with a curling iron and a medium hold hair spray. I used my TBS rainforest shampoo & conditioner for colour treated hair and let air dry partially before using a hair dryer. The second picture was taken about 9 hours later (at midnight, excuse the pyjamas). As you can see the style had fallen into loose, unruly waves by the end of the night. I went bowling in between pictures so my hair didn’t stay quite as nice as it would have if I was sitting around doing nothing.
Here I styled my hair using the JF style primer. The directions read to use one pump of product and comb through from mid-strand to ends and style as per normal. I let it air dry for an hour, then used my hair dryer. Afterwards I styled it the same way I had in my previous photos, with a touch of the same hair spray and a curling iron. I got the same amount of curl, but if you look in the photo on the right the style lasted so much better with the primer. These photos were taken 10 hours apart, and look how controlled the style looks at the end of the day having used the primer. I also went bowling in between pictures with another group of people so I kept my activity level consistent!
John Frieda Frizz Ease
Shampoo & Conditioner
I’m unsure if the formula itself changed or if it is just the packaging. The bottles are now purple, and I’ve noticed the spout for the product is flatter now. It doesn’t really make a difference to me, the bottles still sit “upside down” so the product dispenses easily. I think the formula might have changed because the smell is more perfumey than I remember. It was overpowering, especially the shampoo. I generally don’t have frizzy hair, but I condition my hair daily and I’m not willing to go a week without conditioner to see what happens! I can’t vouch for the humidity protection as I’m in the land of forever cold and dry AF Alberta.
John Frieda Frizz Ease
This smells like I remember JF smelling. It’s subtle and not the dying flowers smell I get from the shampoo & conditioner. I tried it out on my long straight bob style and I noticed that my hair felt a bit crusty but the style held and didn’t get knotted, so this really did help hold my hair in place. I wouldn’t use it every day though because my hair is so low maintenance.
