Spring has sprung! I was a bit skeptical about this month’s Ipsy bag. Last month just wasn’t jiving with me but I really tried to love all my products. I had a bit of box envy reading everyone’s February reviews, but I hoped this month would redeem itself.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Ipsy, it’s a monthly makeup subscription service that sends out 4-5 full and deluxe sample sized products each month.
Price? $10 US. Canada adds $4.95 for shipping.
Value? The value depends on which products you get; however, bags normally average out to around $49US. In addition each month comes with a new makeup bag.

Like I said, I tried to stay optimistic. I’m not convinced that Ipsy actually uses the style profile customized to your interests. They’re sure not reading mine, as three out of five of the items I received were things I specified I didn’t want. I also don’t know what was going on with shipping this month, but my bag just sat at the Canadian border for over a week. Normally I get my bags within a week so I was a little annoyed about that. Not Ipsy’s fault, as all they can do is ship it out, but still. Here’s this month’s bag once it finally arrived:
I got the blue bag! I was happy about this, there was a red/orange and I think also a green version. This month’s theme is Hello Spring. My bag this month had six items instead of the regular five because I redeemed some points last month. Starting with my points item…
Aurora Intensive Eyeliner Pen $7.99 Full Size
I was in the market for a new eyeliner pen, and this one seemed to have good (if not mixed) reviews. It was listed for 250 Ipsy points. Liquid liner is a new adventure for me as I usually use eyeshadow and a brush to line. I found this easy to apply and even though the formula isn’t waterproof it lasted through an entire cardio/strength workout!
Illamasqua Precision Ink in Abyss $28 FULL SIZE
Well done Ipsy, a full size product. Except… Eyeliner is one thing I specified I have no interest in receiving since I redeemed points for a new one. Sigh. Since I’m such a liquid liner newbie I found this a little hard to apply. I’m someone who needs to hold pencils, or in this case eyeliner right near the tip to apply properly, so the applicator was hard for me to use. Once on it took about five minutes to dry properly, but from there it seriously did not budge until I used makeup remover.
On the left we have the Aurora liner, and on the right the Illamasqua. They look almost the same to me once applied. The Illamasqua is just a tiny bit shinier.
Pixi by Petra Rose Gold Blush Duo $8 Half Size (?)
I’ve never heard of this brand before, but I was happy to receive a blush/highlighter combo in my glam bag. Pixi’s website lists this as coming with a little kabuki brush for a total of $18US. The quantity is just under half what the website lists it as, but the weight might include the brush. I’m going with half size, but correct me if I’m wrong.
This blush is incredibly subtle. It took me a while to get used to it, but once I did I really loved it! The highlighter side was a little bit too powdery for my liking.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo $12 Deluxe sample size
This is a deluxe sample which you can buy on the Living proof website or at Sephora. Hair care is another product area I have specified I don’t want, I have so many shampoos and conditioners lying around it’s not even funny. I’ve never tried a dry shampoo before though, so I am curious to sample this one even if I didn’t request it.
Mememe Loose powder brush $20 FULL SIZE
This is listed on the Mememe website as 14GBP, and according to the google that’s around $20US (Does anyone know how to make the pounds symbol on a North American keyboard?) Great Ipsy, another product I specified I didn’t want.
Nourish Organic Rosehip & Rosewater Body oil $3.50 Sample Sized
I am confused by this. It’s supposed to be a mist. The full sized product is a mist but the sample container doesn’t have a spritzer. This supposedly “balances skin, improving texture and tone” and is supposed to be full of healthy fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins.
While I wasn’t impressed with Ipsy’s profile matching I’m impressed with the value of the bag which totalled out to $71.50US not including my extra this month. In Canadian that’s approximately $93 which is over four times the amount I paid after shipping and the exchange rate. I’ll probably use everything in my bag except for the loose powder brush. Despite the lack of profile matching I’m happy with my Ipsy bag this month, and so was the resident cat!
What did you get from Ipsy this month? Has Ipsy been listening to your profile requests?
