I’ve been searching for a moisturizing night cream or mask for a while now. I was planning to splurge on some skincare products at Sephora when I saw this listed as an option in my Julep April beauty box. Many website reviews rave about it’s effectiveness so I figured I couldn’t go wrong, especially since my April box was free. I’ve been using this every night for the past month now.
What: Julep Night Shift Sleeping Mask
Price: Regular $34, Maven Price $27.20
Claims: The product claims to help repair skin during sleep for a brighter, smoother, and firmer complexion.
I was really impressed with the packaging. It comes in a 2.8 oz white tube with silver lettering and a metallic cap. The tube was smaller than I expected, but when I first used it I found the formula to be extremely dense so I hardly use any of it with each application. I’m someone who doesn’t like to be coated in heavy layers of product so I’ve been applying it with a bit of water to help spread out the formula. I only need a toothpaste sized dollop to coat my entire face and neck.
The mask does feel pretty heavy at first but it absorbs quickly and the heaviness goes away. The smell is a little bit strong. It’s not a bad smell but it kind of reminds me of medicine..
How it holds up:
I was expecting to find my face oily the next day since the formula is so dense but my face felt soft and moisturized. I do have dry skin though so if you have oilier skin this might be a little much.
The website reviews say that this has made acne worse for some people, but it seems I am not one of them! I have also read that this mask helps to reduce acne scars. I haven’t seen much of a difference in mine to be honest. In regards to the product claims I have definitely noticed my skin is smoother, but I wouldn’t say it’s brighter or firmer (though I’m 23 so my skin is still pretty young).
My Rating: 8/10
This mask is inexpensive compared to other skincare masks, and since I have a maven subscription it’s worth it to throw it in my box once I run out (which I will when the bottle runs out in however many months it takes).
What’s your night time skincare routine? Have you tried this mask and if so what did you think?
