December 2016 Ipsy Glam Bag Review

December glam bags are rolling their way in through the mail. This is the one subscription that I just can’t get away from! I subscribe, unsubscribe, resubscribe, etc. etc. It’s just too good a treat to pass up each month. The theme this month is Carpe p.m.

If you haven’t heard of Ipsy, it’s a monthly makeup subscription service that ships out 4-5 deluxe and full sized products each month.

Price? $10 US. Add $4.95 for shipping to Canada.
Value? Glam bags typically average out to around $49US, but this can vary as glam bags are customized. In addition each month comes with a new makeup bag.
Customize? Fill out a profile quiz to get personalized products. If you give feedback on your products each month you will have a greater chance of getting something you like next time, or at least that’s the idea. Check out the new profile quiz if you haven’t already!
Points? Earn points through referrals and reviewing the products in your glam bag. In addition you get 100 points for joining. Points can be redeemed for an extra item in your next glam bag. You can sign up HERE!

In the spoiler photos Ipsy sent out the bag looked like a suede plain red wristlet. Photos can’t really do justice to just how flaming PINK and fuzzy this bag is. You read that right, the bag is positively fuzzy. I’m not sure how I feel about it to be honest!

Bonus: e.m. cosmetics Angle Liner Brush
You can’t buy this brush outright on e.m.’s website, but it does come in the life palette. I’ve been watching Michelle Phan’s tutorials and now I want all the life palettes! gah. I redeemed this for 250 Ipsy points.

Mint Pear Beauty Blending Sponge $20 FULL SIZE
My foundation brush broke (long story). I resigned myself to buying a beauty blender after Christmas, but Ipsy read my mind and sent me a makeup sponge! This sponge is latex free and made of an anti-microbial material. I was frankly disappointed when I tried it out. In the name of science (beauty) I wet the sponge and tried to blend my MUFE foundation but it absorbed a lot of product INTO it without blending any on my face. In the end I worked up to a nice coverage, but I used a lot more foundation that I normally do.

Tarte Maracuja Oil $8.35 Sample Size
I can’t believe how expensive this oil is. I’ve heard really good things about this product and even though I’m still a little unsure about it I’ll probably find a use for it. I’m quite happy with how cute the glass dropper bottle is!

Ciaté London Liquid Velvet Matte Lipstick $5.85 Sample Size
I love that I’m getting liquid lipsticks in my glam bag now that the profile quiz has changed! I honestly thought this would be a nude shade similar to my beloved Ruffle Trim Nyx Lippie, but the spoiler photos got me again! I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a deeper wine-berry shade . It looks absolutely faaabulous. #Instalove.

The Balm Mad Lash Mascara $5.63 Sample Size
I have about five mini mascaras right now so I’m all set in that department! I think I’ll be gifting this for Christmas instead of saving it for myself.

Hanalei Lip Treatment $6.38 Sample Size
I’m not sure how I feel about this product. I feel like there are cheaper products that do the exact same thing. I have a $5 cocoa butter vaseline lip balm which is about the same consistency but comes in a pot rather than a tube. I think I prefer that.

Verdict: My glam bag worked out to $46.21US. Many subscribers this month had a much higher value but I will use just about everything and I also got a bonus angle brush. The lipstick is going to get so much wear this Winter!!

What do you think of this month’s glam bag? Stay tuned for next month’s glam bag! I redeemed a few extra items which I am really excited to share with your guys because they are amaaazing! Thanks so much for reading! Let me know what you want to see next and please remember to follow on Instagram and link your insta username below! ❤

    1. If you are in the US definitely worth it as shipping is free, but for Canada it works out to about $21 a month with shipping and exchange rate. You can always try it out and unsubscribe at literally any time, it’s not a huge commitment in terms of subscription length unless you sign up for a yearly term. Before I really knew anything about makeup or skincare Ipsy was a good starting point for me since I had no idea what to look for or buy lol. The curation has been really good lately for me, but you do sometimes get more little samples than full size products. I recommend Ipsy but you have to be willing to put up with your first few bags being a bit all over the place. As you rate your glam bags and products your profile matches will get better because the products are customized to you. I think it’s definitely one of the better low cost beauty boxes and the points system is a nice bonus!

  1. The maracuja oil is the best! Try it as a cuticle oil or a lip oil. You can mix it into foundation and cream products and use in underneath your eyes before you conceal to prevent creases, I absolutely love it!
