2017 Favourites: Beauty & Lifestyle Round Up

2017 Favourites Round Up

Well, another year has passed us by. I feel my youth slipping away slightly… My little brother only has a year and a half left of high school, my husband successfully completed his career change, Christmas is over, and I’m officially in my mid twenties now. Gah. Blogging has really helped me appreciate the change in the seasons. In today’s blog post I’m recapping my TOP favourites from last year!

Winter 2017 - Top Favourites

Winter 2017

In winter I was still posting monthly favourites fairly often. Half way through the year I switched to seasonal favourites because I found it hard to come up with “new” favourites each month, and with a seasonal post I felt more free to talk about old discoveries as well as new.

Lemon & Cream hand cream by Delectable – This was a favourite last February and I’m still loving it today. It takes me a long time to use up hand cream but I’m okay with it because I want this bottle to last forever.

Becca Liquid Highlighter in Opal – I picked up the Glow On The Go set from Sephora last winter and I was so glad I did! I loved how the liquid highlight especially applied and blended into my skin. I have since finished the bottle but I’m still loving the powdered version of Opal.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream for Extra Dry Skin – Last year I discovered my new Holy Grail moisturizer. I can’t wait to repurchase this! Reviewed Here.

Spring 2017 Favourites - Luxie 660 Brush & Clinique Almost Lipstick

Spring 2017

I only wrote one favourites post in the Spring and that was back in May. I was trying not to make too many purchases because I was saving for Peru so most of my new products came from Ipsy.

Luxie 522 Dreamcatcher Tapered Highlighter Brush
It’s funny, Ipsy has this available as a points reward right now and this brush is now called a highlighter brush. When I originally got it in my subscription it was called a foundation brush. I have used it for both and while it’s ok as a foundation brush it works much better for highlight and setting your under eyes with powder. I still love it and use it every day!

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey – I really like this lipstick! It’s great for minimal makeup days as the finish is sheer. Reviewed HERE.

Assassin’s Fate by Robin Hobb – This isn’t pictured in the photo but it was featured in my May favourites. Assassin’s Fate is the final instalment in my favourite book series, Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings. This book was a like a love letter to all other books in the series, complete with character crossovers that tied up loose ends and new posed questions. I was a wreck when I read the last sentence in the book, I was so emotional because I just couldn’t bear to say goodbye to all my favourite characters.

Summer 2017 Favourites - Chocolate Bon Bons & S'Well Bottle

Summer 2017

In the Summer I rediscovered some products I hadn’t used in a while. I think there’s a lot of pressure as a beauty blogger to be constantly churning out new products so it’s easy to forget to enjoy ones you already have.

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette – I started using this a lot again in Summer as well as this past December. The eyeshadows are so buttery and pigmented and there’s a lot you can do with this palette from a natural day time look to a darker smokey eye. The pops of pink are really lovely too!

S’ip by S’well Water Bottle – I LOVE these water bottles! The original S’well design is quite expensive so I opted for this bottle instead. The design is more triangular than the original but the construction is the same. It keeps my water cold, not cool, for hours.

Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Marine Mist – This primer/setting spray is amazing for dry skin. It gives me such a beautiful dewy finish. I was sad when my sample ran out because it’s expensive to buy full sized. Reviewed Here.

Fall 2017 Favourites - Kylie Lip Kit, MUFE Foundation & Gloves

Fall 2017

This was my most recent favourites post and I’m still loving a lot of the products I featured in that 2017 Fall Favourites blog. Two products especially still stand out to me. Unrelated, how cute are those beige leather gloves my husband got me for Christmas!?

MUFE Ultra HD FoundationThis foundation is my go to when I have a party or event to attend and I want to look flawless. It blends well into my skin and my blush, bronzer & highlight products blend easily over top of it. Reviewed Here.

Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kit – I received this lip kit in Dolce K from a giveaway. This lipstick is drying but it lasts ALL day! The browny-nude shade was perfect for fall and I’m still using it in the winter. Reviewed Here.

Did you have any products that stood out to you all year round?

So this is totally unrelated to your post, which I love by the way, but I wanted to say that I bought the too faced peachy mattes palette because of you, and i have to say that I absolutely love it! It’s so good, and pigmented, and I’m so glad I saw it on one of your instagram posts! xxx

awwww, thank you so much for letting me know Melina! It’s funny, I actually just finished writing my review on this post for tomorrow morning! I always worry that I’ll recommend something and someone won’t like it, I’m so happy that the palette worked out for you as well! xx

      • January 17, 2018 / 8:40 am

Lmfaoo, I just saw the post now, and I started laughing! and trust me, I worry about that too! You never know, not everything works for everyone

        • January 17, 2018 / 2:04 pm

Haha! It’s great timing is all πŸ˜‚
It’s true, some things won’t work for some people. At least with Sephora here in Canada & the US most people can return what they don’t like! I’m so glad you love it though 😁

  2. January 15, 2018 / 12:05 pm

Yes I agree – coming up with monthly favourite posts is too much for me too. I LOVE year end favs though! Love reading everyone’s in January ❀

    • January 15, 2018 / 1:28 pm

Yes it’s too much to have new favourites every month! I love these kind of posts too ☺ Thanks for reading! ❀

  3. January 13, 2018 / 1:56 am

It is! I have three TF palettes now, I use them all πŸ™‚ I read your review, I’m glad you loved the Peach Palette! That’s one I haven’t added to my collection yet but I’d love to one day.
I need ALL the Kylie Lip kits! Most long wearing Lipstick I’ve ever tried.

  4. January 12, 2018 / 4:18 pm

That Too Faced palette looks so gorgeous! I just did a review of one of their palettes on my blog and I loved it ahah. I also love Kylie Lip Kits they are soo long wearing.

    • January 13, 2018 / 1:54 am

It’s the most multipurpose brush ever! I’m glad I got it, it’s so soft. Does it work well for contouring? I never thought to use it that way!

  5. January 12, 2018 / 12:33 pm

I love that you only picked a few favorites! Sometimes favorites can be overwhelming… and also hurt my wallet πŸ˜‚

    • January 12, 2018 / 12:37 pm

So true! It gets tedious to read lomg favourites and empties posts sometimes. Thanks for reading!

  6. January 12, 2018 / 11:58 am

I totally agree with you about not being able to come up with monthly favourites; in general, most of us largely use the same products month over month!
Becca Opal is probably in my top 3 highlighters! You need just the most miniscule amount and it gives you such a crazy glow.
That TF Bon Bons palette is so gorgeous. I keep going back and forth over whether I should buy one of the chocolate bar palettes, and if so, which one I should get. The Bon Bons one definitely has the cutest packaging, though.

    • January 12, 2018 / 12:43 pm

It gets hard sometimes, I felt like I was buying new things just to have a new favourite so I decided that needed to stop!
Becca has the prettiest highlighter formulas 😍 I love that Opal works for a wide range of skin tones.
That’s a hard decision! They all have different pops of colour. I wish the semisweet chocolate palette was still sold in Canada, I think it was discontinued.

      • January 12, 2018 / 2:17 pm

Exactly! It’s difficult to avoid falling into that trap of buying stuff just for the blog. I refuse to do that now!
What, Semi-Sweet was discontinued?! Dang, that one was so pretty!

        • January 13, 2018 / 1:53 am

I need to stop that this year!
I believe so, I can’t order it on Sephora Canada anymore πŸ™

  7. January 12, 2018 / 11:02 am

I love that you split this up by season. I always use different products in different seasons so that was cool to see πŸ™‚

    • January 12, 2018 / 12:44 pm

My routine also changes quite a bit, especially between fall & spring!

  8. All Things Jacqui

    Great blog post!

I love seeing people’s favourites and doing seasonal ones as well is such a good idea!

    Jacqui xxx

Thanks for reading Jacqui! I really enjoy doing a seasonal round up!
