January 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Hello Lovely! It’s my favourite time of month again. I’m sure my postman hates it because I do so much online shopping and sometimes the boxes aren’t exactly light, but what can a girl do? I love seeing that pink envelope in the mail!

If you haven’t heard of Ipsy, it’s a monthly makeup subscription service that ships out 4-5 deluxe and full sized products each month.

Price: $10 US. Add $4.95 for shipping to Canada.
Value: Glam bags typically average out to around $49US, but this can vary as glam bags are customized. In addition each month comes with a new makeup bag.
Customize: Fill out a profile quiz to get personalized products. If you give feedback on your products each month you will have a greater chance of getting something you like next time, or at least that’s the idea.
Points: Earn points through referrals and reviewing the products in your glam bag. In addition you get 100 points for joining. Points can be redeemed for an extra item in your next glam bag. You can sign up HERE!

January’s theme is Metropolis. The bag this month is designed with city skyscrapers in mind. I can see how, it reminds me of light blue windows reflecting from a concrete building. Minimalistic and cute!

Manna Kadar Paradise Blush Full Sized $19
This blush is well pigmented and can also be used as an eyeshadow for a pink pop of colour. I use a Manna Kadar highlight/bronzer duo on my eyes instead of cheeks sometimes, so it very well could happen with this blush. I’m happy I got this!

theBalm Bahama Mama Bronzer Tiny Sample Sized – $1.61
Um, Ipsy. Can we talk? How exactly is my bronzer brush supposed to fit in the pan of this sample? Look at how tiny it is! It’s just annoying trying to use it as a bronzer! I really like the shade itself, but this sample is unusable as a bronzer.

Pur~lisse Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 Mud Mask 15ml Sample Size – $10.40
I like Pur~lisse and I love mud masks. It contains blue lotus seeds, white clay, bamboo, ginger, white tea and mushroom extract which work together to soothe, brighten, tighten and clean pores, and detoxify your skin.

Trust Fund Beauty Lip Gloss Full Sized – $18
I thought I was done seeing Lip glosses from Ipsy but I guess I was wrong. Luckily this gloss doesn’t feel sticky at all so I might just use it. Trust Fund is selling a $22 “limited edition Ipsy packaging” version of both shades that subscribers received, but you can buy the normal version for $18. I received the shade Method to the Madness, swatched below!

Ciaté Geology Top Coat Full Sized – $17
I was so excited for this when I realized it was full sized. The bottle is so pretty too, the outside is metallic like a mirror! This is supposed to be long wear. I can’t attest to the wear time yet, but it does have some serious shine.

Lime Crime Metallic Velvetine Lipstick Full Sized – $20
I snapped this up in the shade Lana for 350 points. It was described as a “burnished bronze”. A few days after my glam bag shipped I received this email:

The odd thing is, the shade that arrived WAS Lana. I’m so confused right now, I basically got this as a freebie by some strange circumstance. This lipstick is opaque and has a “liquid metal” finish according to Lime Crime. It’s so different from anything I have ever worn on my lips but I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone. Check out the swatch below!

em Cosmetics Tokyo Plums Eyeshadow Palette $28 Full Sized
This was 300 points. Ipsy has been offering so many em products lately because em is selling off all their stock to make way for the redesign of the brand. The brushes that come with it tend to fall out every time I open the palette. Some of the shades are pigmented and others aren’t. They are buildable though so this will make a cute travel palette!

Value: $66.01 US without extras, with extras $114.01 US. In CAD right now thats $149.49! That’s my highest Ipsy value yet, considering the extras. I love this glam bag! I was kind of meh about it when I saw the spoilers, but now I’m in love with everything except for the bronzer!

  1. Great glam bag! The blush is pretty and I would love getting a pur-lisse mud mask! That top coat will come in handy too. That’s awesome you got the Lime Crime you wanted even after that email! You got lucky!

    1. Yeah it is, I’m taking another break from ipsy for a month or two to save money but this bag made it really hard to leave! I think I will actually use everything I got this month. I am so confused now as to why they thought they sent me a different lipstick, It must have been a mistake. I won’t complain about the freebie though!

    1. Thank you so much!! I’ve come a long way since I first started blogging lol. I love the blush pigmentation, I’ve been using it as an eyeshadow as well! Unfortuantely I keep closing the lid and it takes me about 5 minutes to get it open each time. I hope you liked the rest of your January products as well, thanks for reading!
