Empties January & February 2017

I had so many deluxe samples and products from subscription boxes building up over the past few months that my beauty shelf was becoming overwhelming. It wasn’t a bad problem to have, but I was starting to question just how many more products I really needed taking up space! Luckily I’ve had a steady stream of empties in the last two months, so my stash is starting to look ordinary again.

The Body Shop Oils Of Life Sleeping Mask
This came from my TBS advent calendar. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this little pot of face cream. It smells lovely and and left my face feeling moisturized and not sticky. Some face creams don’t spread evenly across my skin but this applied smoothly. When I finished the pot I looked on TBS’s website and it retails for $44 full size, so I’m holding off  on a repurchase until I finish my other night creams.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream
This was a life saver this winter! It’s not cold out right now, but when the temperature drops down to anything below minus fifteen my skin flakes and flakes, it’s horrible! This helped keep the dryness at bay, and even though I still had dry patches it helped out a lot. I wasn’t a fan of the smell, it reminded me of calamine lotion. I will probably repurchase the mini for next winter.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser
I raved and raved about this cleanser when I first got to try it in November as part of my Sephora Birthday Gift. I’m still raving about it, and have acquired another mini of this cleanser. I have dry skin and most cleansers make it worse, but this doesn’t strip my skin of moisture nearly as much as other cleansers. I will be picking up a full size of this when my mini runs out!

Elizabeth Arden Eye Gel Sample Size
This came in my very first Topbox subscription last year! I’ve been using since then and honestly this little tube went such a long way. I’ve used a tiny dab or two under each eye most days and I’ve only just run out. I can’t really vouch for if it works to combat wrinkles, at this point anti-aging products for me are mostly preventative. It does feel refreshing though, so I mean, that’s something? I won’t repurchase because I have a few other eye creams on the go.

Julep Love Your Bare Face Cleansing Balm
I wanted to love this face balm. I thought the stick format was a very good portable option for travel and I even took this camping! I found it to be drying on my skin though and the scent could use some work. For $28 this is not getting a repurchase.

Cover Girl Cheekers Blush
I honestly couldn’t tell you what shade this is because it’s so old! I’ve had it for about three years (or more) so I’ve decided to finally toss it. I’ve been using it, but I don’t like the cheap “powdery” smell and the brush is harsh and doesn’t blend well. I hit pan on this over a year ago and it’s time to let it go instead of trying so hard to finish a mediocre blush.

Rimmel Hide The Blemish Concealer
It took me a little over a year to finish this concealer. It was slightly red toned so I began using it for dark circles, but I found the cream formula hard to blend without irritating the skin under my eyes. It creased quite a bit and setting powder really didn’t help much. It’s gone now and I’ve moved on.

Tarte Tarteist Mascara Sample
I posted my thoughts on this mascara a few months ago here. I’m not a fan of the sample version of this as it doesn’t have a bottle neck to rub off the extra mascara on. It also flakes like mad! I was going to toss it but then I kept trying to use it thinking “oh I’ll change my mind and love it this time”. Wrong! It’s time for me to accept that this mascara isn’t for me.

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation Sample

I got two of these minis from subscriptions last Fall. I liked this foundation, but not enough to repurchase. It’s a buildable light- medium coverage foundation. I personally prefer my Dr. G BB Cream better.

Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer Sample
This little sample lasted a long time! A little goes a long way, so I didn’t have any problem ordering the travel size of this primer for $20 at Sephora. It helps my makeup go on smoother and minimizes the little forehead creases I get when I’m stressed.

Essence Superfine Waterproof Eyeliner Pen
When I got this eyeliner pen from Ipsy I was daunted by the extra long tip, but after trying it out I quickly fell in love. It applied easily and lasted over 12 hours without smudging or cracking. Unfortunately for me I lost it somehow so I repurchased at Superstore. I didn’t work nearly as well the second time around. It dried out quickly and faded within a few hours. I’m really hoping this second repurchase was a dud, because the quality was great the first time I used it!

Paula Dorf Baby Eyes Enhancer
This is a pink waterline pencil that I received in my 2016 February Ipsy bag. I used maybe half of it and then it sat in the bottom of my makeup bag for eight months. Time to go!

Bath & Body Works 60 Second Manicure Scrub
This is from B&BW’s True Blue Spa line. True Blue Spa is my favourite B&BW product line, besides their candles! This scrub is really pampering and indulgent. It foams up as you scrub it in and leaves your hands smooth and soft afterwards.

Revlon Professional Leave In Conditioner Spray
This came in my November Topbox subscription. It has a nice scent that lingers for a couple hours. I probably won’t repurchase. It was nice when I had it available, but I’m not big on hair product.

Bv Spa Grapefruit Body Lotion
This is a drugstore body/hand lotion. I got compliments on the smell nearly every single time I used it! The grapefruit is very powerful, but I love grapefruit so it was great. This is a very affordable lotion and if I didn’t already have so many hand creams I would definitely repurchase.

Clean Fragrance Sample Spritzer
I received this in the Sephora Luxurious Late Night sample bag. I used it up but I can honestly say I’m not a fan. I don’t know why the scent doesn’t resonate with me. Even with one light spritz on my wrist I catch whiffs of it and wrinkle my nose. Fragrance can smell fantastic on one person and completely different on another due skin chemistry, so this is probably great for somebody out there. That somebody just isn’t me.

Bath & Body Works Vanilla Sugar & Winter Candy Apple Body Wash
It takes me so long to use up body wash! I have so many bottles and I get bored easily with fragrances so I’m always swapping out which bottle I’m using. I end up with a lot of 3/4 full and 1/2 full bottles at once. I decided it was time to commit to finishing a couple B&BW body washes and made it through two this winter. Good thing, because I got more for Christmas!

There’s a lot of mixed products in here. Some were great, others I disliked, and others I was indifferent to. I’m happy to finally get the packaging into the recycle bin and make way for new things, my bathroom shelves were turning into an organizational nightmare!

  1. I love empties posts! I always end up putting stuff on my mental list of things to buy! XD I need to try that TBS Oils of Life mask. I want to try the whole line, actually. Always hear good things. It is expensive though so I’d wait for one of their good sales (I love that they always have sales, too).

I love B&BW too. I haven’t seen the True Blue Spa line before. But that’s probably because I don’t normally go much further than the candle area otherwise I know I’ll want to buy everything I see. But now I really want to try that scrub!

    1. I liked it a lot, it’s the perfect consistency of mask for me, not too thick or thin. I wish it wasn’t $44!! Hopefully they put it on sale at some point soon!
I’m the opposite, if I look at the candles I know I’ll buy like six of them so I avoid that area 😅
It’s a smaller product line within b&bw, it only takes up one shelf at my local store but I’ve loved everything I’ve tried of true blue spa. I think the scrub was about $12 when I purchased, it lasted a long time too!
      Thanks for reading ☺

  2. That’s too bad about the Essence liquid liner. I’ve only purchased it once but it worked great for me. And it’a also too bad about the Julep cleansing balm stick! It sounded like a great product until I read what you had to say, I guess I won’t be trying that out. Thanks for sharing your empties! I really enjoyed the read!

    1. I must have chosen a bad one when I repurchased, that’s good to know! I’ll try it one more time, it’s only $3 anyway.
I was so excited to try the cleaning balm but it definitely didn’t work out with my skin type. I think it would be better for oily skin, but it’s so drying on mine. Thanks for reading!! ☺
