Spring 2017 Luxebox Unboxing + Review

I wasn’t expecting my Luxebox until late March, but the post office dropped it off on February 28th. Talk about efficient! I didn’t know what it was at first because I wasn’t expecting anything so soon. They sent everything in a little bag this month to be more eco friendly. I reviewed Topbox for the vast majority of 2016 but this year I wanted to try Topbox’s counterpart, Luxebox. The only real difference between the two is that Luxebox is quarterly as opposed to monthly and you receive more products per box.

Price: $26CAD
Shipping: Free
Frequency: Quarterly
Included: 7-8 sample sized to full sized beauty/wellness products.

The Beauty Crop Glamazon Stick $16 CAD Full Sized
I love love love this! It’s a highlighting crayon with vitamin E, cocoa butter & jojoba oil. It doesn’t contain parabens or pthalates and is cruelty free! I tried it out on my browbone, cheekbones and the top of my nose and it gave a natural looking champagne glow once blended. The shade is perfect for my lightest-shade-of-foundation-pale skin.

Doucce Lipstick in Shade 824 Pink Essence $31.95 CAD ($24US) Full sized
I’ve never heard of Doucce before, but their packaging is pretty neat. It’s a click stick, so to lock the cover in place you push up on the bottom and it clicks. I would have preferred a more nude/pink shade than a bold red for spring, especially since it’s a satin lipstick and moves around more than a matte. It’s creamy and comfortable on the lips, but there is a waxy-plasticky smell. It’s a little weird that Canadian sub box is including products that can’t be shipped to Canada (only US orders are available) but whatever?

They’re Read Tinted Lash Primer $11.43 CAD Deluxe Sample Sized
This is a dark brown shade that can be worn on it’s own for a natural look or layered with a mascara on top. I sometimes use tinted brow gel as mascara when I want a no-makeup look, but I like the idea of this more. This is 0.1 oz, just under the amount of product in the travel sized lash primer at 0.14 oz. Honestly I don’t think I’ll ever buy a full sized mascara because I have so many minis and I just can’t use a full one up within the six month expiry date.

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara $17.31 CAD ($13USD) Deluxe Sample Sized
See? I told you I don’t need to buy full sized mascara! I have three unopened deluxe mascaras already, and now I have four. I did open this one just to check out the wand. It’s curved and has tiny little spikes. I’ve never used a curved mascara wand before, so I’m interested to see how this works out for me.

Maxine Warsh The Warsh Cloth For Her $12.40CAD
I’ve heard about these before! You can supposedly forgo cleanser for your face and use this wash cloth alone with water to cleanse, remove makeup, and exfoliate. This is TOTALLY going on my Peru backpacking trip this Fall! I could only find it selling in packs of three for $28 USD, so I divided to get a value of $9.33USD. I have no idea if it works, but I’m excited to find out!

Nova Scotia Fisherman Fundy Clay & Mint Soap $1.45CAD
I’ve been wanting to try this brand for a long time. This soap bar smells amazing! You can’t really go wrong with mint. I’m saving this for our trip as well, bars of soap last a long time and this is the perfect size for my luggage.

Cake Beauty Desserted Island Supreme Body Mousse $2.75CAD 1 oz Sample Sized
I LOVE Cake Beauty so much that I requested giant sizes of the Delectable Lemon hand cream and body wash for Christmas last year. This mousse has a foil seal so I won’t open it yet, I have several similar products open right now.

Novex Bamboo Sprout Leave In Conditioner $6.64 CAD Travel Sized
This exact product came in my November Topbox review last year. I’m so tired of seeing Novex. There’s nothing wrong with the brand, but I’ve received four or five products from them and I’m ready for something different. I never finished this one from November, I found the smell to be off putting and it didn’t condition my hair as well as I would have liked.

Complimentary Samples (Sponsored Items)

Colgate Optic White Toothbrush + Whitening pen ~$13CAD
Some people don’t like it when boxes include sponsored items, but I have no problem with it. They’re in addition to the products I’m receiving anyways so for me it’s a nice bonus. I love getting sponsored razors and, yes, toothbrushes in my boxes! I like that this has a whitening pen attached, I’ve been looking into affordable whitening methods and I’m finding there aren’t many that are worthwhile without draining your wallet. You can never have too many toothbrushes, this will encourage me to swap mine out sooner rather than later.

Dove Regenerative Nourishment Shampoo, Conditioner, & Serum $3.07 CAD
These look familiar to me too! I have the same trio from the Unilever Trends Box I purchased in the fall. These will also go into my travel backpack.

The total of the box before sponsored items is $99.93CAD. That’s fantastic, especially when I loved 6/8 items. I could have done without the Novex conditioner and the lipstick wasn’t really my shade, but overall I’m happy. I always find that I’m happier with my boxes after I have written my reviews and researched the products. I know people are skeptical when a blogger absolutely loves everything in a box, but I really did enjoy the curation this month! When I add the sponsored items into the mix I get a value of $116CAD.

  1. I always liked my Luxe Boxes! I don’t get it anymore, though. 😦 This one looks really good! I think Cake is one brand I wouldn’t ever get sick of receiving every month, haha. It does get annoying when it seems to always be one brand all the time.

I love the extras, too. Topbox is so good with including extras. Just makes the bang for your buck go up even more, which is awesome.

That Eyeko mascara is one of my favourites! I have that They’re Real primer, too. I don’t even know how to explain it properly but it separated my lashes in a way that made my lashes look so thin, so I didn’t like that.

    1. All the reviews I read seemed to be pretty consistent, I finally caved and signed up! I think I’m liking this more than the monthly Topbox subscription so far. I’ve been watching the Topbox reviews and they’ve featured Bella Aura like four months in a row or something crazy like that, it gets so repetitive!
The extras are awesome, I like that they aren’t counted as an item so you still get the 7-8 regular items plus the extras.
I’m looking forward to trying out the mascara! It will probably take a year for me to get to it because of all my other unopened minis haha
Sorry the benefit primer didn’t work out for you! Did you wear it on it’s own or layer with a mascara? I haven’t really had a chance to use it yet, but I’m glad I got it as a mini instead of buying it full size in case it doesn’t work out.

      1. I’ve tried both ways for the primer! I didn’t like it under mascara because it pulled my lashes together so when I wanted to put mascara on top, I wasn’t able to get the separation I desire!

      2. That’s no good! I tried layering mascara on top today and it made my eyelashes feel really heavy and clumpy =\ I like it on it’s own though, so I guess I won’t be using it as a primer.

    1. The box was curated really well! I have a hard time thinking of it as a spring box though because it’s still snowy when I look outside! Thanks for reading! xx

  2. I eyed this box for awhile and your reviews convinced me! I just signed up for it now. I started to getting really disappointed with ipsy and cancelled it so I am excited to try a new subscription!

    1. That’s great to hear, I’m glad my reviews could help! I’ve been impressed with my first two boxes, and it’s cheaper to get one box every three months than Ipsy once a month. I’ve also been rather underwhelmed with Ipsy lately so I totally get that. I hope you enjoy your first Luxebox!
