My New Holy Grail — Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisturizer

Hey everyone! As promised, I’m finally reviewing the mystery moisturizer I’ve been raving about since March! As part of Elle Canada Grand Prix I was sent a few products to blind test, so I had NO idea what most of them were. All I knew was that out of the four day creams I tested out this one was by far my favourite. It’s just that good! Now that my blind reviews have been submitted I was able to pry off the super sticky labels and find out what it was I’ve been loving for the last two months!

Product Claims

I am reviewing Neutrogena Hydro Boost for extra dry skin. There is also a formulation for normal to dry skin. The product claims to absorb super quickly and lock in all day hydration. It contains hyaluronic acid, and is oil free.

Smell Hydro Boost doesn’t really have much of a smell. It’s almost scentless, with the formula having a tiny bit of a medicinal smell. The product is formulated without added fragrance so it would be good if you are sensitive to smells.

Texture The texture is in between a cream and gel consistency. It was incredibly light on my skin and applies beautifully. I only needed a quarter sized dollop to coat my entire face and neck, so there is none of that tugging you get from applying thicker moisturizers.

Hydration It absorbs very quickly into my skin. This formula somehow manages to be lightweight, quick absorbing, and extremely hydrating. My dry skin was soothed almost immediately, and the feeling lasted my entire day without my skin getting greasy.

Results I struggled with dry patches on my nose and cheeks all winter. After a single week of use my dry patches were eliminated! I was shocked. Normally moisturizers will help lessen the look of dry spots on my face but never causes them to completely disappear! When I moved on to test other moisturizers for Elle the dry patches came back, so I know that this product was totally meant for me.

Final Thoughts

The only thing preventing me from declaring this my new holy grail moisturizer is the fact that it doesn’t contain any SPF. That’s extremely important to me, especially in the Summer so I do wish this contained sun protection. Luckily I can pair it with am SPF BB cream. I’m definitely going to be repurchasing this next winter when the air gets dry again!

  1. Wow that is awesome you were able to find such a great affordable moisturizer that agrees with your skin! I’ve always been curious about this product. I’d love to try it someday but I have oily skin, not dry. I would probably try the normal to dry instead!

    1. I was so happy to find this, I feel like I’ve been searching forever for my perfect moisturizer! I just wish it had Spf. If you want to try it out there is a water gel version instead of this gel cream, reading the reviews on Neutrogena’s website it sounds like the water gel works great for oily skin! I haven’t tried it but the reviews are very positive.

  2. I love this moisturizer! I used to be ride-or-die with this product. I actually don’t mind that it doesn’t have SPF, but I’m not a fan of the jar packaging. I don’t think it’s sanitary to dig your fingers into a jar like this and I also don’t like that the product is exposed to the air, where aerosols containing bacteria, dust, and dirt can get in. To overcome this issue, I will use a spatula to scoop out product and close it right away. Other than that, no complaints. Love this product!

    1. I like the packaging, but you’re right it totally isn’t the most sanitary packaging. I just make sure I wash my hands reeeally well first 😄 Thanks for the spatula tip, I’ll need to get one for my jar products! I just saw that there is a version that has Spf and it comes in a tube instead of a jar, I might need to try that out!

  3. ! I just indirect request it had Spf. If you desire to prove it out there is a water gel interpretation instead of this gel pick, interpretation the reviews on Neutrogena’s website it sounds like the water gel works great for fulsome skin!
