It’s Not Me, It’s You – Products That I’m Just Not That Into

Hey Beauties!! When I originally started this post, it began as a review for a product that I really wasn’t loving, but had been forcing myself to use. I’ve been posting a lot of reviews lately though so I wanted to change it up and do a collective post of some products that just aren’t that close to my heart.

Skincare

Simple Micellar Water I purchased this recently with the assumption that all micellar waters are created equal. I couldn’t have been more wrong! I should have bought Garnier again, the Simple formulation just doesn’t cut it when it comes to removing mascara and eyeliner. And I’m not even wearing waterproof makeup! It takes me two extra saturated cotton balls to get my makeup off now.

Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Deep Dive Gel Cleanser I had a rant about this product in my first impressions post of the Tarte Make A Splash Hydrating Skin Savers Value Set, so I won’t start one now. Just know that I wasn’t a fan of the packaging, texture or smell of Deep Dive.

Makeup

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara This mascara fell flat for me. It’s just kind of… meh. It makes my eyelashes stand out a little bit by fully coating my lashes and lasting pretty much all day, but It doesn’t add any length or curl for me which is a must from a high end mascara. Have you guys tried this? Do you love it? Hate it? Let me know!

Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer Speaking of Smashbox, I tried a sample of this from Topbox last Summer and loved it so when I ran out I bought the mini from Sephora. Some days this primer blends in nicely, while other days it pills like crazy, it’s so strange! I definitely will be looking for a new primer.

Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick I got this lipstick mini in a deluxe sample bag from Sephora last Winter. I have the shade R49 Bellydancing, and it really doesn’t work for my skin tone. It’s too bright for me and has a tendency to move around on me through out the day.

The Body Shop Eyelash Curler This eyelash curler is not the best, to put it gently. The pad wore down within a few uses, and my eyelashes would pull out because they got stuck in the pad. I recently put a new pad in the curler, and now I get barely any curl.

Hair

Novex Bamboo Leave in Conditioner I have a bottle of this stuff that is almost empty sitting in my shower right now. The smell doesn’t jive with me to the point where I have to rinse it out even though it’s a leave in conditioner. The bottle pictured in the photo is full and unopened, so I may give it to a friend.

The Body Shop Rainforest Radiance Shampoo & Conditioner I’ve had so much trouble using the TBS Rainforest Radiance line for colour treated hair. The shampoo is hard to work into a lather, even when I’ve mixed it with water in my hands first as the label instructs. Within a few hours of washing my hair would be greasy. I tried using less conditioner, and even no conditioner, but my hair still looked terrible. On the bright side, I noticed minimal fading of my hair colour while using Rainforest Radiance, so it kind of works?

Last but not least… A little glimpse behind the scenes. If you follow me on instagram @alwayscleia you probably saw Quantum making my flatlay a CatLay! He also tried to swipe the flower a couple of times xD

Let me know… What products are you just not into this Summer? Do you love, hate, or feel indifferent to any of these products? Thanks for reading everyone, your support means so much to me! If you enjoyed this post please take the time to give it a like, and follow this blog if you aren’t already โค

  1. Smashbox full exposure mascara is my favorite. It never clumps or flecks for me and I get instant volume. Have you tried the Too Faced Hangover primer? I received a sample from Ipsy (it may have been Topbox) and loved it enough to buy a full size. Thanks for sharing what is not working for you. It is interesting that not all micellar water are equal. I will keep that in mind as I have only used Garnier.

    1. Thanks for reading, I’m glad the mascara works for you! I don’t know why it’s not working for me, I think I might just prefer how thinner brushes work for me. I haven’t tried the Hangover Primer, I’ll take a look next time I’m in sephora, thanks for the advice! I’ve only tried the 2 micellar waters so I don’t know much about other brands. I’ve heard that Bioderma has a good one โ˜บ

  2. For a second I thought you were gonna say you don’t like sephora lipsticks! I love the formula of their lipsticks, but I completely understand not liking the color. I also have to say that I’m not a big fan of the smashbox mascara. I got it in a gift set a while back, and I wasn’t even close to being blown away. Super underwhelming for sure xxx

  3. I’m so surprised to hear about the Simple micellar water, since I’d only heard good things from other people. I’ve only used Garnier, though, and now I’ll probably stick to it!

  4. The Smashbox Full Exposure mascara doesn’t work for me either! To be honest, I think it’s just the brush? It’s so huge. I didn’t find a problem with the formula. I mostly find I can’t get the brush to grip and define my lashes!

Out of curiosity, does the Smashbox primer pill when you are using a gel moisturizer underneath? I had the same problem but with the benefit Porefessional. I’ve been using it for 2 years and never had a problem but when I started using gel moisturizers, it would pill when I used it over top!

I was very curious about the Rainforest shampoo! I can’t stand shampoo that doesn’t lather. I think it’s supposed to be better for us? But I just can’t haha.

    1. You’re right, The formula doesn’t flake or anything which is nice, but it’s hard to work such a huge brush to get any curl!

Huh. Good question! I never thought about that, I don’t remember exactly what moisturizer I was using, but I started using gel moisturizers this winter and the primer worked well before that… I will have to perform a test!!

I’ve heard that too about lathering shampoos, but I don’t feel like my hair is clean without lather haha. I don’t recommend the rainforest radiance, but The Body Shop’s banana shampoo is great even though it’s not meant for colour treated hair.

      1. Yeah I had the same problem with my primer working great for 2 years and then suddenly it was pilling! Then I figured out it was only doing it with gel moisturizers. I want to find a primer that I can use with gel moisturizers because like you, I really enjoy them!

Ooh I’ve wanted to try the banana shampoo! I love anything banana scented. I’m the same way about lathering shampoos lol. I NEED it to lather.
