September 2017 Empties!

September

Hello everyone, welcome back for another round of Empties! This is going to be my last empties post for the next couple of months, I’m leaving on vacation in October so I won’t be finishing off too many products through November. Don’t worry, I’ll still be posting Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays throughout my trip so I’m not really going anywhere in a virtual sense! Now, onto what I’ve finished this September.

Bath, Body & Haircare

Nexxus Therappe Shampoo & Humectress Conditioner I loved this combo so much! I found it strange that the shampoo & conditioner set didn’t match in scent, but I enjoyed both anyways. My hair was always incredibly soft after using these two together. Repurchase? Eventually, yes.

Novex Leave In Conditioner I did not like this at all. The smell was a turn off for me, and the consistency was more like a lotion than a conditioner. Repurchase? NOOO.

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Wash I finally bought this body wash for myself last December, and let me tell you, it’s amazing. It smells like oranges, and the scent lingers after use. Repurchase? Yes, after my shower gel stash dwindles.

Lush Rocket Science Bath Bomb This was the cutest little bath bomb ever! I love that it’s a tiny rocket, I kind of felt like a kid watching it “blast off” in the tub. It wasn’t as fragrant as I had hoped, but my skin was extra soft afterwards. The scent is lemon-bergamot. Repurchase? No, there are other Lush bath bombs that I like better.

Lush Cheer Up Buttercup Bath Bomb This bath bomb is very citrusy and I loved every second of using it. It turned the water a bright yellow and the little blue cornflowers on top make it so pretty! Repurchase? YES

Skincare + Foils

Tarte Marine Boosting Mist I finished the last two products in the Tarte Make A Splash Hydrating Skin Savers set (reviewed here) this month. This was the only product that I really loved out of the trio, and I was torn about purchasing the full size spray at $30. Repurchase? YES, when I have a bit of money in the bank.

Tarte Drink of H20 Moisturizer This moisturizer was nice, but it wasn’t that nice for the full sized price of $47CAD. It’s a lightweight gel moisturizer with a fragrance reminiscent of… mint? I can’t really tell. It left my skin feeling tacky. Repurchase? No.

Belif Aqua bomb Moisturizer This came in my 2017 Summer Luxebox. I usually love gel moisturizers but for me this one wasn’t anything special. The fragrance wasn’t my favourite. Repurchase? No.

The Body Shop Mango Whipped Lotion Mini This scent heavenly! I want a full sized bottle so bad, but I have other lotions to use first so I’m not letting myself buy it just yet. Repurchase? Yes.

Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior Moisturizer + Serum Foil This was a foil sample from Sephora. I liked the texture of this moisturizer/serum, it’s not quite a cream and not quite a gel. I also like the idea of a combined serum & moisturizer. I only got one day out of this foil so I can’t really tell if it did anything for my skin. Repurchase? Probably not.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask Foil
This mask makes my hair feel so soft and healthy after one use. I got two uses out of this packet but I’ve used this product before so I already had a solid opinion on it. Repurchase? Maybe. I have several similar products to use up first!

Makeup Declutter

I don’t have any makeup “empties” this month, but I have two products that I decided to bin this month.

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation I reviewed this product here. This shade isn’t right for me and while I managed to make it work, I wasn’t loving it. The formula always looks cakey on my skin and it clogs up my makeup brushes and blending sponge. Repurchase? No. I recently purchased Maybelline Fit Me Hydrate + Smooth and I like it 100% more than Dream Velvet!

Aurora Pro Color Corrector I tried to love this, I really did. This was an Ipsy product in my August 2017 Glam Bag and I used it maybe twice before giving it a solid no. This is the shade Pistachio, and while it’s a great shade for covering redness the formula didn’t hold up well. It flaked away after drying and was a nightmare to blend with concealer. Repurchase? No.

  1. That’s interesting that that Tarte moisturizer stayed tacky on you! On me it dries down super matte and very quickly at that. I’ve just started trying it out, but I think it isn’t hydrating enough for me.
Those bath bombs are so adorable! I wish I had a bath!

    1. Yeah it was super weird! I’ve never had that with a gel moisturizer, my skin felt sticky afterwards but It was fine once I put makeup on top. I’m sorry it’s not working well for you!
Lush bath bombs are so cute! I wish they weren’t so expensive though. I can’t even imagine not having a bath tub, baths are the most relaxing thing for me in the winter!
      Thanks for reading!!

  2. The Satsuma shower gel is everything! I’m just about done my bottle too!!

That Aurora colour corrector is awful. When I first tested it, it was on bare skin and it seemed to work fine! But then I tried to do my makeup and it wouldn’t blend out at all.

I love the tarte mist too! I just got another tarte set that has this in it.

Have an amazing time on your trip!

    1. I don’t think I’ve come across someone who didn’t love Satsuma! I have so much bath products to use up before I can let myself buy more, which is sad because I really love this scent!

So it’s not just me!! I haven’t really read any reviews of the colour corrector but I wasn’t sure if it was just my skin type or something. It looks like it dries down but it’s practically impossible to conceal over top of the green!

Yay for more Marine Mist! I miss that little bottle, it’s so expensive for a full size though!

Thanks!! I’m sure we will! I’ll be posting pictures =D

      1. Yeah I’m wondering if maybe when it dries down, that’s what makes it difficult to blend out. I didn’t play around with it much. Honestly I was just mad at it because I was trying to get ready for work and I always tell myself not to try new products when I’m getting ready for work because almost always it just does not go well. XD I don’t have time to be fighting with products!

I definitely look forward to seeing your photos!!

      2. Haha! Yeah it’s best to try new things when you have a bit of time to find out how to use it best. I don’t know if there is a good way to use that concealer though, I used it maybe three times without good results 😕

  3. Those Body Wash shower gels are a constant staple in my shower! Especially Satsuma – that is by far the best scent!
Thank you for your mini review on those Tarte Rainforest of the Sea products…I’ve kind of been eyeing them and wondering if I should give them a try. Definitely not the moisturizer!

    1. Agreed!! Satsuma is always the scent I choose for gift sets, it even beats mango for me!
I’m glad you found my mini review helpful! I still love the setting spray but its so expensive… 😒
There are a lot of great drugstore moisturizers that are cheaper, my next purchase will be Neutrogena hydro boost. Its $25 and worked really well for me last winter. Still not cheap, but its a lot less than the tarte moisturizer!
