Hey everyone!! With all of my yearly favourites posts going up around this time of year including my Makeup Favourites & Skincare Favourites I wanted to share all my non-beauty finds of 2018. While most of us bloggers stick to one niche I believe that IRL we are multi-faceted. I have a ton of interests that don’t really fit in on a beauty blog so this post is where I’ll share the things that have made my year interesting from a non-beauty angle. Let’s talk Lifestyle Favourites!
Lifestyle Favourites 2018
Nintendo Switch + Breath of the Wild
Omg. My husband spoiled me rotten this year for my birthday. He knew that I’ve been wanting a Nintendo Switch to play Zelda Breath of the Wild ever since the console was announced, but I am NOT someone who will spend more than $100 on myself for one thing. I feel so guilty spending money so he went ahead and did it for me. I’ve been having so much fun playing this game, it brings back a lot of nostalgia from Ocarina of Time and also from the year my GPA dropped by 0.5 points because I was too busy playing Skyrim to care.
I would love to know if any of my gamer girls out there have Nintendo Switch recommendations for me! I’ve also added Kirby Star Allies, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Octopath Traveller to my gaming arsenal.
Indigo Chapters Owl & Racoon Pillows
My Mom bought me these gorgeous pillows for my 26th birthday last month. The only good thing about getting older at this point is that I have an excuse to fill my home with beautiful things. I love them so so much but I can’t leave them out in the main room while I’m away. Quantum has a fabric fixation where he eats sweaters, blankets and… pillow corners. You read that right. So my pillows are only safe when I’m around to defend. Otherwise I have to be careful.
It’s amazing what something so simple as some matching pillows and a throw blanket can do for your living room, it instantly feels more homey.
Bath & Body Works Caramel Apple Candle
This is my Ultimate Fall Candle! I’m rationing it right now because it’s a seasonal candle and I won’t be able to find it until next fall. This candle brings back memories of making caramel apples with my mom at Halloween and of eating those green apple caramel candies!
Book: Dawn of Wonder
Dawn of Wonder captivated my interest the entire way through. There are some books with unnecessary exposition and boring conversations, but Dawn of Wonder never left me feeling bored. It’s about Aedan, a boy who finds his town in trouble and needs to save them from slavers. He saves the town, but his best friend is carried off to be sacrificed in the country of Lekran. Aedan vows he will grow strong and take his revenge.
It’s one of those Coming Of Age/Hero’s Journey books about a young boy who grows throughout the book. He joins an academy of sorts and makes friends, goes to different classes, deals with bullying classmates and discovers secrets he’s not meant to know. It kind of reminds me of Harry Potter, just without the magic wands!
Book: Elise Kova’s Air Awakens Series
I absolutely devoured this series. The magic is really cool and I spent the first three books yelling at my favourite characters to just figure out that they were meant for each other. The genre of this series is a mix of fantasy and romance and it worked surprisingly well. I still felt like the stakes were high enough that there was substance to the series outside of the romance element. There’s a second series coming out set 18 years later this February called Vortex Visions and I can’t wait to read it!
Canon Rebel T6i
I started exploring photography this year when my husband bought me my first DSLR camera. I guess I should tell my family about my blog one of these days because they keep asking what I’ve photographed with my camera and I always have a wishy-washy answer. In reality I use this camera for all my instagram, blog and youtube needs.
Maybe 2019 will be the year when I finally disclose what I do with most of my time…
I love this camera, it takes great photos and it’s automatic-manual functions help me take amazing photos without a lot of experience.
Bocas del Torro
Bocas del Torro is amazing. If you read my Travel Costa Rica & Panama post you might remember that I didn’t have the best time on that trip because the girls on the tour with us were difficult to get along with. Costa Rica & Panama were still beautiful though and I couldn’t talk about my 2018 Lifestyle Favourites without including it.
Bocas del Torro is a little island belonging to Panama. It’s very much a party island but you can find a piece of relaxation there as well. Every evening my friend Ashley and I ordered a few drinks and read our books under the stars. I know, I’m so boring! The party life isn’t the life for me. Our hostel was accessible by boat, the bar and lounge is literally built over the water so you had an amazing view of the ocean. The two for one mojitos were pretty swell too 😉
