2018 Lifestyle Favourites

2018 Lifestyle Favourites Always Cleia

Hey everyone!! With all of my yearly favourites posts going up around this time of year including my Makeup Favourites & Skincare Favourites I wanted to share all my non-beauty finds of 2018. While most of us bloggers stick to one niche I believe that IRL we are multi-faceted. I have a ton of interests that don’t really fit in on a beauty blog so this post is where I’ll share the things that have made my year interesting from a non-beauty angle. Let’s talk Lifestyle Favourites!

2018 Lifestyle Favourites | Nintendo Switch

Lifestyle Favourites 2018

Nintendo Switch + Breath of the Wild

Omg. My husband spoiled me rotten this year for my birthday. He knew that I’ve been wanting a Nintendo Switch to play Zelda Breath of the Wild ever since the console was announced, but I am NOT someone who will spend more than $100 on myself for one thing. I feel so guilty spending money so he went ahead and did it for me. I’ve been having so much fun playing this game, it brings back a lot of nostalgia from Ocarina of Time and also from the year my GPA dropped by 0.5 points because I was too busy playing Skyrim to care.

I would love to know if any of my gamer girls out there have Nintendo Switch recommendations for me! I’ve also added Kirby Star Allies, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Octopath Traveller to my gaming arsenal.

Indigo Chapters Owl & Racoon Pillows

My Mom bought me these gorgeous pillows for my 26th birthday last month. The only good thing about getting older at this point is that I have an excuse to fill my home with beautiful things. I love them so so much but I can’t leave them out in the main room while I’m away. Quantum has a fabric fixation where he eats sweaters, blankets and… pillow corners. You read that right. So my pillows are only safe when I’m around to defend. Otherwise I have to be careful.

It’s amazing what something so simple as some matching pillows and a throw blanket can do for your living room, it instantly feels more homey.

2018 Lifestyle Favourites | Caramel Apple Candle

Bath & Body Works Caramel Apple Candle

This is my Ultimate Fall Candle! I’m rationing it right now because it’s a seasonal candle and I won’t be able to find it until next fall. This candle brings back memories of making caramel apples with my mom at Halloween and of eating those green apple caramel candies!

2018 Lifestyle Favourites | Dawn of Wonder

Book: Dawn of Wonder

Dawn of Wonder captivated my interest the entire way through. There are some books with unnecessary exposition and boring conversations, but Dawn of Wonder never left me feeling bored. It’s about Aedan, a boy who finds his town in trouble and needs to save them from slavers. He saves the town, but his best friend is carried off to be sacrificed in the country of Lekran. Aedan vows he will grow strong and take his revenge.

It’s one of those Coming Of Age/Hero’s Journey books about a young boy who grows throughout the book. He joins an academy of sorts and makes friends, goes to different classes, deals with bullying classmates and discovers secrets he’s not meant to know. It kind of reminds me of Harry Potter, just without the magic wands!

Air Awakens - Elise Kova

Book: Elise Kova’s Air Awakens Series

I absolutely devoured this series. The magic is really cool and I spent the first three books yelling at my favourite characters to just figure out that they were meant for each other. The genre of this series is a mix of fantasy and romance and it worked surprisingly well. I still felt like the stakes were high enough that there was substance to the series outside of the romance element. There’s a second series coming out set 18 years later this February called Vortex Visions and I can’t wait to read it!

Canon Rebel T6i

I started exploring photography this year when my husband bought me my first DSLR camera. I guess I should tell my family about my blog one of these days because they keep asking what I’ve photographed with my camera and I always have a wishy-washy answer. In reality I use this camera for all my instagram, blog and youtube needs.

Maybe 2019 will be the year when I finally disclose what I do with most of my time…
I love this camera, it takes great photos and it’s automatic-manual functions help me take amazing photos without a lot of experience.

Bocas Del Torro | Red Frog Beach

Bocas del Torro

Bocas del Torro is amazing. If you read my Travel Costa Rica & Panama post you might remember that I didn’t have the best time on that trip because the girls on the tour with us were difficult to get along with. Costa Rica & Panama were still beautiful though and I couldn’t talk about my 2018 Lifestyle Favourites without including it.

Bocas del Torro is a little island belonging to Panama. It’s very much a party island but you can find a piece of relaxation there as well. Every evening my friend Ashley and I ordered a few drinks and read our books under the stars. I know, I’m so boring! The party life isn’t the life for me. Our hostel was accessible by boat, the bar and lounge is literally built over the water so you had an amazing view of the ocean. The two for one mojitos were pretty swell too 😉

What were your lifestyle favourites for 2018?

I’m so glad that you’re loving breath of the wild! If you’re looking for a fun 4 player game, I would definitely recommend Overcooked! It’s so fun. You’re like a chef, and you guys have to work as a team to get the orders out and keep the kitchen tidy. It’s much harder than it sounds like! You should check it out on YouTube or something, but it’s something me, my family and friends have all been playing together! Great post cleia xxxx

Thanks for the recommendation, I haven’t heard of that game before! I will definitely check it out!

let me know how you like it! x

What a fab recap. Love that you have a Nintendo switch. I seriously want one because the super smash bros games looks insanely amazing! I practically grew up playing that game haha. I used to have it for the GameCube and it was loads of fun.
I want to upgrade my DSLR because I’ve gotten to the point where I’m no longer happy with the quality of the photos, yes it’s good, but it can be way better, I have a basic Nikon model and would love to get a better camera. Not to mention, the one I have isn’t for filming either so my videos aren’t the best quality. Makes me not want to film anymore lol.

Super smash Bros is so fun! I love that you can seperate your switch controller into mini controllers so you can play multiplayer. I’m not very good at it and normally lose but it’s still fun!
That would be awesome if you could get a new camera at some point. I really like your photos but it sucks being limited in what you can do with a camera! Oh I totally get that about filming, I chose the T6i over the T6 because it was also meant for video!

      • January 9, 2019 / 2:03 pm

Hopefully I can afford both a Nintendo switch and a new camera this year lmao
But thank you!! I feel like my photography skills have improved but I do have loads more to learn.

That would be awesome! I hope the switch goes on sale soon.
There’s always more to learn, or else life would get really boring lol

Loved this post! I agree with you we are all multi-faceted and it’s nice to know other things as well (other than beauty). Bocas del Torro looks amazing! Those pillows are beautiful. Fab post as always x

      Best fall candle EVER!

Lovely! It’s great to share other parts of your life and not just beauty since like you said, we have other areas of focus as people.

I also get a bit secretive on what I photograph too… LOL I think it’s become fairly obvious though as I kept a large bag of empties which was finally emptied a few days ago (post to come).

Nothing wrong with having a relaxing holiday! I’m not really a party person either and to be honest, when I talk to some party animals, they are not able to remember the night so I wonder if it was even worth it? So don’t worry, you’re not missing out on anything.

Thanks! I agree, I love getting a glimpse into what’s “behind the blog” sometimes.

haha! I do that too, it’s the trademark of a beauty blogger! I’ll look forward to reading your empties post 🙂

It’s definitely not worth it if you can’t remember the night before!

I agree that as bloggers we are all multi-faceted! It’s nice to share different parts sometimes and get to know each other better. I bought my Canon camera in 2017 and I want to get better with it. I do use manual mode and found I learnt quickly but I want to take even better pictures 🙂 That owl cushion is super cute!

Definitely, I love getting to know the people that I follow through blogging or instagram and it’s refreshing to realize that we have other interests besides our main blog niche.
I haven’t used the manual mode on my camera yet, but I use the AV & P settings which are semi-manual? I will set the aperture or shutter speed myself but I leave everything else to the computer in my camera lol. I would love to get better with my camera too. I hope you’re able to learn more about yours this year!

Love this post!! Some of my favorite blogs are the ones that mix lifestyle + beauty or other interests because I agree, we are usually multifaceted in real life. 🙂 It was so fun to read all your favorites of this year. How awesome that you got the Nintendo Switch…one of these days I want to spoil my husband with one when I can find the money. 😉 I also feel guilty if I spend a large amount of money on myself, so I get it! Those pillows really are too cute and that candle sounds like it smells phenomenal!

I love being able to share a little bit more of myself through a lifestyle-type post, it gives me a chance to focus on things that aren’t beauty related.
I was so surprised when he got the switch for me! I hope you’re able to get your husband one someday, I think he’ll love it.
Pillows & candles make a home feel so much cozier! Thanks for reading x

I got my first DSLR last month, and it’s completely changed the way I take images. I think it’s so worth it for blogging, social-media, and for just capturing memories. It’s made me want to buy a less expensive phone because I only cared about the camera – why I always upgraded.
The Caramel Apple candle looks really good! 🙂

Absolutely! DSRL’s are game changers. I’m glad that you’re loving your new camera too 🙂
I’m so sad the candle is only sold in the Fall, I would buy it year round. Thanks for reading!
