2018 Skincare Favourites

Hey everyone, Merry Christmas! I hope that you had a wonderful holiday with friends & family yesterday if you celebrate Christmas. In case you missed it I posted my picks for the Best Makeup of 2018 last week. This week I wanted to follow up with my 2018 Skincare Favourites. Not all of these skincare products are new, but they’re ones that I’ve loved for most of the year. I tried a lot of skincare products thanks to Elle Canada when I was selected as a juror for their grand prix so I had lots of options to choose from!

2018 Skincare Favourites | Fresh Soy Cleanser & Exfolikate

Best Cleanser of 2018

My favourite cleanser didn’t change this year even though I went through a lot of them. I tried Aveeno’s Positively radiant cleanser, two cleansing oils from L’Occitane and a string of other drugstore cleansers but I kept coming back to my tried and true Fresh Soy Cleanser. This cleanser isn’t anything new and unfortunately it isn’t very affordable at $20 a travel size and $49 for a full sized bottle but I keep going back to it. Whenever I can find it on sale I treat myself to the travel size bottle. It smells like cucumbers and is gentle on my skin. I can’t afford to buy it all the time which is why I’ve alternated between so many drugstore cleansers this year.

Best Exfoliator of 2018

I started delving into chemical exfoliators this year but my favourite exfoliating product is still Kate Somerville Exfolikate. I included both the Soy Cleaner and Exfolikate in my Top 10 Winter Skin Savers blog post early this year and I still stand by that. Exfolikate feels luxurious and the enzymes in it make my skin tingle. I know it’s weird but because I feel a physical change in my skin I think that the enzymes are actually working. My face feels so soft after exfolikating and this bottle has lasted me an entire year!

2018 Skincare Favourites Nuxe

Best Moisturizer of 2018

I’ve been really enjoying the NUXE 48 Hour Moisturizer. I can’t attest to the 48 hour moisture claim because I do wash my face twice a day.. but it’s been a good moisturizer when transitioning between the warmer and colder days of Fall. My skin is nice and hydrated in the morning when I use it overnight and it sits well under makeup. My HG is still Neutrogena Hydro Boost but I haven’t had a chance to repurchase yet this year!

November Empties Caudalie SOS Serum

Best Serum of 2018

I didn’t try a whole lot of serums this year but I did find one that I’ve enjoyed enough to repurchase twice already. You’ve probably heard me raving about the Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum if you’ve been reading any of my seasonal favourites posts this year. I love this serum for my extra dry skin. While I was testing moisturizers for Elle Canada I noticed that a lot of my dry patches returned and this helped soothe them. Anything that helps reduce dry patches and soothe my dry skin gets a thumbs up from me.

I also enjoyed the Caudalie Grape Water face mist and couldn’t write a skincare favourites post without mentioning it. It came in the same value set that I got my SOS serum in during my April Sephora VIB Sale Haul. Grape Water has the most refreshing fine mist which is great for during a workout or for wetting your makeup brushes.

2018 Skincare Favourites Kiehls & Clarins

Best Eye Cream of 2018

I’ve tried so many different eye creams thanks to Sephora Deluxe samples and subscription boxes, so I know when an eye cream does something different from the rest. The Kiehls Midnight Recovery Eye Cream was a fantastic purchase. The tube has lasted me most of the year and I already have a replacement for when it’s finished. Kathleen Lights raves about this eye cream but it wasn’t until Polished and Inspired recommended it to me that I picked it up. I’m glad I did, it’s so hydrating and I actually notice an immediate smoothing effect when I apply it. I don’t know if it will prevent wrinkles in the long term but in the short term I do notice my eyes look less puffy when I use it overnight.

Best Lip Balm of 2018

I have way too much lip balm on my skincare shelf. I always get lip balms for birthdays and Christmas and I have a nice little stock pile of it. Elle Canada also selected me to test lip balms for their 2018 Grand Prix so I got another 5 or 6 balms to try out. There was one that I absolutely had to include in skincare favourites and that was the Clarins Hydra Essentiel Moisture Replenishing Balm. It’s  very thick and luxurious. My lips feel so hydrated when I use it!

2018 Skincare Favourites L'Occitane Cherry Blossom

Best Hand Cream of 2018

L’Occitane hand creams are my absolute favourites. They’re moisturizing without feeling greasy and they have so many great scents to choose from. My personal favourite is the L’Occitane Cherry Blossom hand cream. I received a ton of little hand creams from last year’s L’Occitane advent calendar. Unfortunately they’re on the more expensive size but the $12 travel size is perfect to stick in my purse. I love buying these hand creams for my mom as birthday and christmas gifts because I know their a luxury item she wouldn’t treat herself to.

2018 Skincare Favourites

What products are on your 2018 Skincare Favourites list?

There you have it, the best skincare products of 2018 in my personal opinion. Keep in mind that I haven’t tried every skincare product on the planet so if there’s something that you think is the best and I didn’t mention it please let me know! Please remember that we all have different skin so what works for me might not work for you. I have very dry skin so a lot of these products might not be good for you if you’re skin is oilier/less dry than mine. I hope you guys enjoyed reading about my skincare favourites for this year! Talk soon xx

you know what’s so funny, over the years I have gotten so many Fresh soy cleansers and I never really tried them, and so I found it so funny that the moment you said it was good, I started using it, and boy why hadn’t I used it beforehand! I have yet to buy the full sized one, but I still have like two deluxe samples left! Great post xx

I still haven’t bought the full size! It’s so expensive that I just can’t justify it, even though I love it. I’m glad you’re enjoying it too!

I have been loving that Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye cream, and it seems to last me double what other eye creams do. Although it only lasts me about two months, how does it last you most of a year?!?!? Lol.

I guess I don’t use very much of it at a time, I’m pretty sure I bought it at the end of Spring :S Now I’m second guessing myself!
But I also wasn’t using it exclusively, I was only using it at night and using other deluxe samples in the morning so that’s probably part of it.
I’m glad you like it too!

Great list of skincare favourites! I keep wanting to try Caudalie but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I need another tube of that Kiehl’s eye cream, but Kiehl’s rarely has sales (I guess they have one now but I have to buy $60 worth of products…). It’s just so trustworthy!

Strangely enough I keep buying the L’Occitane Hand Creams for my mom and MIL, but I’ve never tried them myself! I still want to though. I always suffer from dry hands, and my mom says they’re so good!

Caudalie makes such nice skincare! I They aren’t really trending on social media so I sometimes forget about them but I always go back to the SOS serum.

It’s so expensive isn’t it!? But also a great eye cream. I’m lucky because my mom got me the kiehls advent calendar this year and I got a back up of it. But I’m not looking forward to when I need to repurchase!

Yes you should! They’re really nice hand creams. I always keep one in my purse!

Very nice post, I love the Caudalie Serum so much, I wish the brand was cruelty-free, I also love Kiehl’s, I use their midnight recovery serum, it truly recovered my skin!

      I wish it was too!
I’ve only tried a sample of that Kiehl’s serum, not enough to see a difference but it felt really nice on my skin. I’m glad to hear that you love it!

Great list! I’ve never tried any of these myself, but I’m definitely intrigued by the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream & the Caudalie Thirst-Quenching Serum. I have really dry and sometimes flaky skin, so I like my skincare products to pack a lot in the hydration department. I’m pretty loyal to Clinique when it comes to my skincare; I’m deeply in love with their Moisture Surge range when it comes to serums & moisturizers for a while now. I usually use the Garnier Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream, but I’m about to try the Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream for the first time. Fingers crossed I have no funny reactions!

I love the kiehls eye cream, it’s so hydrating! It does a really good job of smoothing my under eye area too. It’s not a miracle worker of course but it keeps everything nice and hydrated.
I’ve heard amazing things about the Clinique Moisture Surge products! I haven’t tried any myself but I should one day. I hope the Fresh eye gel cream works great for you!

Thank you so much, I will check out your post! WordPress doesn’t really notify me when my blog is linked to anymore since I’ve gone self hosted so I appreciate you telling me!

      • December 27, 2018 / 10:19 am

Definitely look into Moisture Surge when you’re shopping for your next skincare purchase. I can’t recommend it enough! Yea, same here, I don’t get notifications when/if I’m linked so that’s why I’m trying to notify everyone from the list just in case! 😊

I’ll have to pick up a sample! It’s so frustrating Isn’t it? Sometimes I’ll just be reading someone’s blog post and see that I was linked to, I wish it was easier to tell. I appreciate you notifying me!

          • December 27, 2018 / 5:13 pm

            I know!

  6. December 26, 2018 / 3:40 pm

I actually really don’t care for the Hydro Boost but I have combo/oily skin so maybe it’s better for those with dry skin?

I totally forgot about Caudalie!! There are so many brands out on the market now that I forget about some other brands.

I totally know what you mean about your lip balm situation…I have the same thing with cleansers lol I definitely have enough cleanser for the whole of next year to try out.

That totally makes sense, I have extremely dry skin so it’s perfect for me! But I can understand that it could be way too much for someone with oilier/combo skin.

I rarely see caudalie on instagram anymore, everyone is talking about Herbivore, Glow Recipe and Drunk Elephant these days. But I try remember to check out other brands besides the ones that are trending!

It feels like lip balms & cleansers take so long to use up too! I guess it’s better to have too much than not enough lol
      Thanks for reading!

I’ve been wanting to try the Neutrogena hydro boost, but I am currently finishing up my own moisturizer so I figured I better wait! I’m glad to hear you liked it though!

Yes It’s better to use up what you have first! But I do think it’s a great moisturizer. If you have really dry skin I recommend the extra dry skin version as opposed to the regular one. Thanks for reading! x
