2017 Life Update – Which Resolutions Did I Keep?

2017 Life Update

Another year has come and gone. It’s funny how that happens right? It feels like time moves so slow when you’re a teenager and speeds up when you’re an adult. 2017 was bizarre for me. I was the single income struggling to supporting myself, my husband, and our two destructive cats. I work part time but I have opportunities to pick up extra shifts throughout the week so I was constantly picking up hours. My shifts were often so opposite in start and end times that I never seemed to catch up or build a solid routine. Luckily I love my job, which makes a huge difference in my overall well being and motivation. I’m still reeling from constantly pushing myself to work so much, now that Mike is working it feels weird to take a step back.

My health took a hit last year. I had a cold almost every month. At one point I had to take three entire days off of work because I had never felt so awful in my life. I never get sick that many times in a year! I do now. I also learned that I have a cyst in my dominant wrist which started affecting my ability to work out and do light lifting at work (it’s really hard to do a lot of things when you can’t move your hand!), so I got that dealt with, but then I started getting debilitating headaches. I soon learned from the doctor are due to job stress.

Peru Travel

I really caught the travel bug in 2017. I finally used my vacation time in October when I took off a whole month off at once. It was glorious being free of my professional responsibilities for several weeks in a row!

2017 wasn’t all bad. I maintained a 4-5 day a week workout schedule, tried some new recipes, made some new friends, and hit my first 1k follower milestone on my blog. In 2017 I (finally) got a new office chair, changed my hair, went to Peru, and then started planning the next years adventures. Not bad! Looking back I was curious to see how many of last years goals I met.

2018 Personal Goals

LAST YEARS GOALS – Blogging

  • Hit 800 Blog Followers
  • Get a Dot Com Domain
  • Get a Tripod & lighting equipment for taking photos
  • Network with other bloggers
  • Plan my content a month in advance
  • Review new subscription boxes

2018 Health GoalsHealth Goals

  • Maintain my 4-5 day a week schedule
  • Try a yoga class, spin class, and go rock climbing
  • Complete the FB Sweat Fitness Blender Program
  • Try two new recipes a month
  • Cut sugar out of my coffee
  • Stock my pantry with healthy food

Reading, Writing, & Music

  • Complete my Goodreads 29 book challenge – 23/29 books completed
  • Start working on my fantasy novel again
  • Play guitar once a week

Honestly I think I did a fair job on most of these goals. I made them with the mindset of knowing that I wouldn’t always stick to them but they were something to strive for. I was thrilled that I hit 1k on my blog before the year was up, and that I managed to keep my fitness routine going aside from when I was sick. I’m not too worried that I only read 23/29 books, I mostly read fantasy novels which tend to be longer in length than the average fiction novel. This year I need to make sure I try out some rock climbing!

  1. Congratulations for doing so well with your 2017 goals, while keeping up something that sounds like a demanding job! The past year has been very stressful for me too and after I suffered many issues due to such pressures, I hope that 2018 is the year I manage to find better balance. And it’s great that you pointed out how many books tend to be much longer than average – I often get dismayed that I don’t read the same amount as many people in terms of quantity of books, but always forget that 500+ is going to take longer to read than 200-300:’)

    1. Thank you! It’s not so much the job as it is the hours that are tough, but loving the job you do makes a big difference!
I’m sorry to hear that 2017 was just as stressful for you, I hope that 2018 will be much more positive for both of us ☺
You definitely need to remember that it’s quality over quantity with books! I was disappointed at first but then I looked at the sizes of the books and thought ok, I did pretty good! Over 500 is like 2 regular books!

  2. Oh boy, I hope you don’t get sick as much in 2018! Fingers crossed.
Well done on your goals, I think overall you did an amazing job! You managed to achieve most of your blogging goals! It must have been really tough to be the single income earner while your husband was looking for a new job. That in itself is an achievement!
How did you like the FB Sweat program? Was it a mix of cardio and weight training? I really love using their free HIIT YouTube videos on my cardio days – they just get right to the point with no BS!

    1. Me too, I’m sick right now actually 😅 I’ve had a stubborn cold all December and into January.
I was surprised looking back at how many I actually did achieve. It’s such a relief that Mike is working now, we can finally save towards a house! 🙌
I liked it, I restarted the program this month. It’s a lot tougher than the other programs I’ve done though, the premise is that you get a workout to do each day and an extra credit challenge for days you want to workout for more than an hour. The workouts are so tough though that I almost never do the extra credit 😅
Their HIIT workouts are the best!

      1. Aw man, sick already?! Boo. Do you take vitamin C supplements? Maybe that might help a little.
Gosh, I can imagine how hard they were! I usually can’t last for a one-hour workout. I saw they came out with an FB Burn program -you should try that one hehe!

      2. Right!? I’m so annoyed. I ate an orange yesterday if that counts haha. I need to start taking more vitamins and supplements. Or immune system boosters or something!
Me neither, who has the time for a full hour workout!? I’m really interested in trying FB Burn, I’ll probably try it this year!

Being sick is the worst, I’m so tired of it! I’m planning on spreading out my vacation time and not pushing myself so hard at my job, hopefully that will keep me healthy ☺
Thanks for reading! Wishing you all the best for 2018 ❤

    1. That’s wonderful, I wish you the best in achieving your goals this year!
When I got my domain I went with WordPress personal but due to technical issues WordPress upgraded me to Premium for free. I really don’t recommend Premium, it’s expensive and unless you have 10000+ monthly page views you won’t see any money from the included google adsense. I’m planning on going self hosted and moving to wordpress.org next month but I’m still weighing my options of what hosting company to go with. Self hosting works out cheaper for me than WordPress premium and includes my domain. Hope this helps!
