2019 Project Pan Year End Update

Oh dear everyone, it seems that I have epic failed my 2019 Project Pan. How did this happen? I started off on the right foot, consistently reaching for all of these products with the mission of using up more than I bought. But somewhere along the way I lost interest in using the same makeup all year round and well, it fell apart.

I had a little bit of success in my Project Pan but I learned that I really don’t do great at forcing myself to do the same thing over and over. I get bored easily and I find it refreshing using a different eyeshadow palette each day and changing up my lipstick to fit my mood. Well, I promised you guys an update. Here it goes…

ABH Soft Glam Project Pan

Pan that Palette Final Update

As I said in my previous update, I basically gave up on hitting pan on any of these shades. Do not pass go, do not collect $100. I think the ABH soft glam is a stunning, beautiful palette, but when I tried to limit myself to a specific palette I got a good old case of “don’t tell me how to live my life!”

Seriously, I’m like that. If someone tells me “You have to see this movie” or “you have to finish that video game” something in me is just like, hell no, don’t tell me what to do! And I think I experienced that a little bit in 2019 with this project pan. I rarely thought to reach for my ABH Soft Glam palette even though I raved about it in my review!

ColourPop No Filter & MUR Fast Base Foundation | Project Pan

Makeup Project Pan Update #2

I DID finish the ColourPop No Filter Foundation in the last 1/4 of the year. I was so pleased to finally have it out of my collection, as a lot of you know already I really wasn’t a fan of this foundation. The stick version is much better, and that’s what I’m using now.

I’m also still working on the MUR Fast Base Stick Foundation. I was so excited about it when I got it in my first and only Makeup Revolution Haul at the end of 2018. I just haven’t been reaching for it because the color is slightly too pink for me on a regular day and because I got such an obvious tan in Thailand & Hawaii the pink is way off. I’ll still be working on this in 2020, I just won’t be updating this project on it’s progress.

Project Pan Blushes

My Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush has seen next to no use this year. I’ve been using the Elf Baked Blush a whole lot though, it’s my most reached for blush at the moment! I’m hoping that I can completely pan this blush in 2020.

I’ve also been using Pink Sand from the Too Faced Natural Face Palette and the Adore Blush Duo from Jouer. I’m not letting myself buy any more blush or bronzer in 2020. I have enough as is until I see some real panning progress.

Becca Sunlit Bronzer & ColourPop Bronzer - Project Pan

My Private Party bronzer from ColourPop was discontinued from my project pan. I don’t really like the undertone, it’s too cool for my skin tone. I prefer bronzers that add a bit of that sunkissed warmth to my face and I just wasn’t a fan of Private Party.

My mini Becca Sunlit Bronzer (from the Becca Prime, Bronze & Glow Kit) has been on my face a lot lately, but not enough to see a noticeable dent. This color is perfect for me when I get a bit of a tan, but for most of the year it was a little too dark. I’m still working this shade right now, my vacation tan has allowed me to wear it much later in the Winter season than usual!

Project Pan Highlighters

I haven’t made progress on my highlighters this year unfortunately. I don’t know if I’ll ever pan a full highlighter, but this is another category in my No-Buy for 2020. I am almost done a liquid highlighter from Becca though so I’m feeling a rather proud of myself for that!

Nyx Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick

I finished one lipstick this year. Only one! No more lipsticks allowed for me…

Nyx Lip Lingerie was almost empty when I decided to retire at the start of this year. It’s one of the oldest lipsticks in my collection, if not the oldest and it was way past its expiry date. Time to go!

My Ciaté Liquid velvet lipstick is in my main makeup bag right now and I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish it this winter while I’m loving berry tones on my lips.

project pan hand cream

Skincare Project Pan Update #2

I saw a lot of progress in the skincare department, which isn’t exactly surprising. I’ve been finishing up a ton of skincare lately, not just the products in my Project Pan! Let’s see how I did for 2019…

Lip Care & Hand Cream

Ok I have been terrible and keep forgetting that I even had this Bite Beauty Agave Kisses set in my project pan. I finished up quite a few lip balms recently, but I got six burt’s bees lip balms for Christmas so I’m set for the next three years..

When I got sick at the end of the year I really started reaching for the Agave Lip Mask, it’s actually such a great product! I don’t know why I haven’t been using it more but I’ll definitely be using it nightly from now on.

My Delectable Lemon hand cream from Cake Beauty is now around 1/4 full!! I’ll be reaching for this a lot more through the winter months than I was through the summer and I see myself having it finished up by the spring. Yes, it’s THAT dry in Alberta *cries*.

2019 Project Pan | Body Butters

Body Care

I finished up two mini body butters in 2019, and it’s a good thing too because my wonderful mother gave me one of The Body Shop’s advent calendars at the end of the year and I restocked a full size of the Shea Body Butter. Hydration for days!

I also finished up a mini from a past L’Occitane Advent calendar, the Almond body oil. I really enjoyed it as a bath oil, and I’ve been thinking about picking up another.

Project Pan Skincare

Fourth Ray Beauty Skin Hero Oil

I gave up on this oil this quarter. It sits on top of the skin and doesn’t absorb properly so I never want to put it on my face. I’m kind of over Fourth Ray beauty, their products never wow me. So I gave this oil an honest chance, it’s just not for me.

Instead of throwing it out though I decided to try my hand at making my own glow body oil! I was disappointed with all the glitter in my Sol Body Shimmering Dry Oil and was really interested in trying their glow oil, but then I saw a post from Joy where she made her own glowy body oil and it was just as good.

So I broke up part of an IBY Beauty highlighter that had been sitting in my collection unused since my last Topbox Review and mixed it all up. The result was really beautiful! So no product was wasted and I was able to use two products that were helplessly collecting dust.

L'Occitane Arlesiene

Here’s another mini from my L’occitane Advent Calendar. I’ve been trying to use up my Arlessiene fragrance, but I generally don’t enjoy rose scents. My one exception is the Pixi by Petra Rose Ceramide cream, that face lotion is amazing!

But for perfumes I generally prefer sweet or spicy scents, not florals. I haven’t yet finished this mini, but I’m very close!

I admire people who do these Pan Projects so much but I would be the exact same way & get suuuuper bored forcing myself to use the same stuff over & over again. Lol at your Monoploy reference & I so agree about when people say “you NEED to” anything– makes me not want to at all. πŸ˜› That’s actually amazing you finished a whole lipstick. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever done that, the product usually dries out before I can! I recently emptied a body lotion by Delectable, too. 😊

I’ve never thought to use oils in baths– I’ve gotta try that & super cool you were able to turn your oil into body glitter. Thanks for being honest about Fourth Ray. Def gonna stay away from that brand!

    • February 23, 2020 / 2:20 am

It gets sooo boring! I got into makeup because it made me feel creative, but using the same products all the time kind of stifles that.

It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who doesn’t like being told they need to do something πŸ˜„ Even if it’s a tv show or something, I just ignore the pressure lol

I was surprised too! And a lip gloss recently as well 😊 good job finishing up a body lotion! They take me forever lol

I saw the idea in a Tati video, it’s a great way to make use of oils that would otherwise not be finished. I definitely think that Fourth Ray should be avoided! There are lots of affordable brands on the market that actually put the proper time into their releases. Fast skincare releases are a no

Thank you so much for reading & your thoughtful comments, as always! x

      • February 23, 2020 / 5:00 pm

Yeah, that totally makes sense. You can only do so much with all the same products. πŸ˜› & same! I just ignore the pressure, too, lol.

My gosh, congrats on finishing a lip gloss!! The body lotion was just a mini-size but, I feel like I probably do empty those quicker than any other thing.

So interesting. I have tons of mini oil samples from past subscriptions so I’m gonna look into which ones to use in a bath now!!

        <3 <3 my pleasure, Cleia!!

        • March 4, 2020 / 6:05 pm

Thank you!! I’m so surprised I finished the whole thing. I’m trying to resist going out any buying more because I have way too many glosses lying around πŸ˜‚

          Hope you’re having a fabulous week! x

  2. January 30, 2020 / 8:23 am

For what it’s worth I think you did quite well at the beginning. I did too and then the last quarter of the year was…sucky lol. But at least you really tried the majority of the year.
Anyway, dont kick yourself too much because powders are really hard to use up, even if you use them on a daily basis.
I will also be on a No-Buy this year. I’m pretty stocked up with whatever I need. I still* need to go through everything again and get rid of things that are probably too old and expired by now. Another declutter, yaaasss lol.
    Anyway great job on 2019!

    • February 8, 2020 / 8:33 pm

Thank you haha! I think maybe shorter term projects would be better for me, after a full year of it I was just not wanting to keep using the same things.
That’s true, it takes such a long time to finish powders!
Yay for decluttering, and shopping less!

      • February 12, 2020 / 9:01 am

Yea, for me personally shorter terms didnt work out because I felt like it wasn’t enough time to empty anything, then again, I only tried it with makeup which is hard to empty to begin with lol.

  3. January 30, 2020 / 3:12 am

Well done for doing the update though even if you felt like it was a fail! It’s difficult. I put up a Project Pan last week and then over the weekend, I bought 5, I repeat 5 – new lip products from NYX like who do I think I am??? Hahaha. I am really looking to forward to finishing a couple of base products this year though and my powder has hit pan even though that’s not part of my Project Pan.

    • January 30, 2020 / 1:01 pm

Thank you, I wasn’t sure if I was going to post this because I didn’t do very well.
haha that’s so funny! It happens to us all, I definitely buy makeup that I don’t need quite a lot.
Which ones did you get? I feel like Nyx has come out with so much since I last bought anything from them that I don’t know where to start anymore!
I hope you can finish a lot of products in your project pan in 2020. Good luck! x

      • January 31, 2020 / 5:38 pm

I’ve been really curious about their powder puff lippies (I think that’s what they’re called) so I bought 2 of those. I also got a clear glitter gloss (it is SO pretty) and then I finally got my hands on the butter gloss which I’ve been meaning to try since forever. In my defence, I don’t have anything else similar in my collection in terms of finish. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

        • February 8, 2020 / 8:38 pm

The only one of those I’ve seen in stores is the Butter Gloss, I need to check our Nyx aisle more closely! I would love to try a bunch of things from them again this year. And I’ll keep an eye out for that glitter gloss!

  4. January 29, 2020 / 3:07 pm

I got rid of a lot of products last year, and am almost finishing up 3 skincare products! I’m on a huge no makeup/skincare buy unless I actually run out of enough stuff and actually need it! This year is definitely going to have a huge product pan! I hope you do better this year than you did last year πŸ™‚ xxx

I like the idea of a one in and one out system! It’s a good way to save yourself money from unexpected splurges too. I hope you have the best year of loving and using what you have! Thank you so much for reading! x

  5. January 29, 2020 / 1:46 pm

Don’t be hard on yourself, committing to a certain number of products can be difficult! Makeup isn’t as easy to use up as skincare and body care πŸ™‚ I didn’t do a project pan in 2019 but I did try and use up more of what is in my collection which I managed to do successfully due to the more frequent empties posts I wrote. Hoping to do more of the same this year. Are you doing another project pan this year?

    • January 30, 2020 / 1:33 am

Finishing makeup products is so tough! Powdered products especially take forever. Empties posts definitely help you see what’s actually getting finished! I think I was still using up a lot outside of my project pan last year so I won’t be doing one this year. But I’ll try to be conscious about products expiring so I use them up before the expiry dates. Thank you so much for reading! x

      • January 30, 2020 / 1:35 am

That’s a good thing to be conscious of 😊

Good job sticking to your pan project! It’s tough! I’m also trying to stick to a no-buy. I have so much stuff that I need to use up, and I do NOT need more makeup OMG. But if something isn’t working for you, you know it the first time you use it (usually). Just get rid of it. Add another item to your project. 😊πŸ₯°

    • January 29, 2020 / 8:31 pm

I can definitely relate! It’s really hard to resist the impulse to buy new things, even when your collection is overflowing πŸ˜„ I’m trying to stop buying so much eyeshadow…
Happy new year by the way!

  7. January 29, 2020 / 12:17 pm

Project Pans are not easy! It’s difficult to use the same things over and over and over again, especially when you own so many products that you also want to use. Over the years, I found a few ways to use my Project Pan products so that I don’t get tired of them as easily, but it’s still tough. You did a good job anyways! I take it you won’t be panning in 2020? haha. I have a feeling I’m going to be finishing like one thing from my project!

    • January 29, 2020 / 8:30 pm

I kind of wonder if I’m not finishing much is it really better to only use my project pan products. Because then the rest of my products sit there untouched πŸ€” I’m not sure which is better!
I’m not doing a project pan this year, or at least so don’t plan to at this point. But I’m trying to be conscious of what’s close to expiry date and make sure I’m using up my foundations and primers, etc.

You’re going to do great on your project pan! 😊

      • January 30, 2020 / 12:10 pm

That’s eactly why I was wary of doing a Project Pan this year too – are you really getting the most out of your collection when you’re using up a handful of products, but neglecting all the others? I feel like a no-buy is better – enjoy what you already own while not adding to it.

        • February 8, 2020 / 8:34 pm

A no buy is 100% better! I still fail at not shopping at all, I need to work on that this year.
