Hey everyone, today we are talking the best and worst eyeshadow palettes in my makeup collection. I don’t have a giant makeup collection but I did have to organize all my eyeshadow palettes into a bigger box this month because I bought one too many… Oops! For this post I’m only including full eyeshadow palettes so no split pans or quads are included. I hope you guys enjoy reading about my Best 3 and Worst 3 eyeshadow palettes, let me know what your number one palette is!
Best 3 Eyeshadow Palettes
It was so hard to narrow down to only three of my best eyeshadow palettes! I have a lot of really great palettes and I’m always rotating through my collection. There isn’t really one that specifically gets used all the time but I do have a few that I always have a great makeup day with. These are palettes that I whole heartedly recommend and have had great success with.
I have a mild ColourPop obsession, I own more CP products than any other brand. I even have a full ColourPop Reviews section on my home page now! The Dream St. Palette was a fairly recent acquisition for me and I wholeheartedly love it. The shadows blend incredibly well, I have never had such a smooth eyeshadow gradient as the first time I used Dream St! Check out the link for my Dream St. Review.
I was head over heels when Anastasia Beverly Hills announced the Soft Glam Palette. I’m so glad that I splurged on the Soft Glam Palette in my April Sephora VIB Sale Haul. A lot of people felt that these shades weren’t very exciting and said that they already had similar shades in other palettes, which is fair. But these are all shades that I know I’ll wear and work together beautifully. The formula is so pigmented and blends beautifully! My only problem with it is that I dropped my eyeshadow palette and all the shimmer shades shattered. When I repressed them two shades were completely altered and are now chunky and patchy instead of buttery and smooth. But I swear they were amazing before that fiasco!
#3 Tarte Tartelette Tease Palette
The Tartelette Tease Eyeshadow Palette is a mini palette but I honestly reach for it so much that it made my top 3 best eyeshadow palettes list. This is one of my older eyeshadow palettes but it’s still available at Sephora for $25. Yes that’s expensive for a mini palette BUT this palette is half the price of the Tartelette Amazonian Clay Palette for half the shades. So the value is totally scalable to the full sized Tartelette palette and not overinflated like most mini makeup purchases.
The Tartelette Tease Palette is perfect for everyday makeup looks if you work in an office or an environment that doesn’t encourage bold makeup looks. This is a cool toned palette which is really what piqued my interest. I always wear this eyeshadow palette when I have an important meeting, it makes me feel like a total girlboss! I have a Review as well as a Cool Toned Fall Makeup look using this eyeshadow palette on my blog.
Worst 3 Eyeshadow Palettes
It was also really hard to decide which three palettes I own are the worst aside from my first choice. I try not to be too negative but sometimes a palette really lets me down. Please remember that just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean that you won’t or shouldn’t like it. We all have different tastes and products can work completely different on us based on skin type or something as subjective as climate.
#1 Pür Cosmetics X Boxycharm Palette
ZOMG. This palette is awful! There were some batch issues on Boxycharm & Pür’s part for sure, on Ulta people have such conflicting reviews. This one definitely makes it to the top of my worst eyeshadow palettes list! For one there are too many orange shades that all looked the same on my eyes. The bright pops of colour blended right off my eye and faded so quickly that I would finish my base makeup and realize that the blue or pink shades had lost their intensity. You can check out my full review if you want to hear more about this eyeshadow palette and see the three looks I created with it, but I won’t hold it against you if you don’t. This palette isn’t worth your time, and certainly not your money.
#2 ColourPop Element of Surprise Palette
I cringed putting including the Element of Surprise palette in the Worst Eyeshadow Palettes section. A lot of people love this palette and might be offended that I didn’t like it but I can’t help it. I was so excited to use this palette but it fell flat for me every single time I used it. I’ve only been able to create two looks that I would actually wear again with the EOS palette which is shockingly low with 12 shades to choose from! The eyeshadows don’t look the same on my eyes as the do in the pans and the gold shimmer/metallic shade has so much chunky glitter that it adds weird texture to my eye.
To make matters worse the shades that I was really excited for like the purple have little to no colour payoff unless applied directly over concealer. To make matters worse three shades are not intended for use on the eyes. WHAT ELSE WOULD I USE THEM FOR!? Anyways, if you want to know more about that check out my Element of Surprise Palette Review.
#3 Sephora Wonderful Dreams Palette
My third Worst Eyeshadow Palette is the Sephora Wonderful Dreams Palette. This limited edition palette was a Christmas gift so I don’t want to declutter it. I feel sentimental about gifts, what can I say. This eyeshadow palette isn’t bad but compared to my palette collection today the Wonderful Dreams Palette doesn’t hold up. The mattes are chalky and have very little pigment while the shimmers barely stick to the eye. You can read my review Here but keep in mind this review is old and not as detailed or complete as the reviews I now write for my blog. I would update it but you can’t even buy this anymore.
What are your Favourite and Least Favourite Eyeshadow Palettes?
Thank you for reading! It was sooo hard to pick just three favourites. The Too Faced Peachy Mattes and Wet N Wild Rosé In The Air palettes are also worth a mention. I hope you enjoyed this blog post about my 3 Best & Worst Eyeshadow Palettes. Please like & subscribe to my blog if you aren’t already, you can do so on the sidebar! Talk Soon xx
