Best And Worst Eyeshadow Palettes | Top 3 Bottom 3

Best And Worst Eyeshadow PalettesHey everyone, today we are talking the best and worst eyeshadow palettes in my makeup collection. I don’t have a giant makeup collection but I did have to organize all my eyeshadow palettes into a bigger box this month because I bought one too many… Oops! For this post I’m only including full eyeshadow palettes so no split pans or quads are included. I hope you guys enjoy reading about my Best 3 and Worst 3 eyeshadow palettes, let me know what your number one palette is!

ColourPop Dream St. Palette Colour Story

Best 3 Eyeshadow Palettes

It was so hard to narrow down to only three of my best eyeshadow palettes! I have a lot of really great palettes and I’m always rotating through my collection. There isn’t really one that specifically gets used all the time but I do have a few that I always have a great makeup day with. These are palettes that I whole heartedly recommend and have had great success with.

#1 ColourPop X Kathleen Lights Dream St. Palette

I have a mild ColourPop obsession, I own more CP products than any other brand. I even have a full ColourPop Reviews section on my home page now! The Dream St. Palette was a fairly recent acquisition for me and I wholeheartedly love it. The shadows blend incredibly well, I have never had such a smooth eyeshadow gradient as the first time I used Dream St! Check out the link for my Dream St. Review.

ABH Soft Glam

#2 ABH Soft Glam

I was head over heels when Anastasia Beverly Hills announced the Soft Glam Palette. I’m so glad that I splurged on the Soft Glam Palette in my April Sephora VIB Sale Haul. A lot of people felt that these shades weren’t very exciting and said that they already had similar shades in other palettes, which is fair. But these are all shades that I know I’ll wear and work together beautifully. The formula is so pigmented and blends beautifully! My only problem with it is that I dropped my eyeshadow palette and all the shimmer shades shattered. When I repressed them two shades were completely altered and are now chunky and patchy instead of buttery and smooth. But I swear they were amazing before that fiasco!

#3 Tarte Tartelette Tease Palette

The Tartelette Tease Eyeshadow Palette is a mini palette but I honestly reach for it so much that it made my top 3 best eyeshadow palettes list. This is one of my older eyeshadow palettes but it’s still available at Sephora for $25. Yes that’s expensive for a mini palette BUT this palette is half the price of the Tartelette Amazonian Clay Palette for half the shades. So the value is totally scalable to the full sized Tartelette palette and not overinflated like most mini makeup purchases.

The Tartelette Tease Palette is perfect for everyday makeup looks if you work in an office or an environment that doesn’t encourage bold makeup looks. This is a cool toned palette which is really what piqued my interest. I always wear this eyeshadow palette when I have an important meeting, it makes me feel like a total girlboss! I have a Review as well as a Cool Toned Fall Makeup look using this eyeshadow palette on my blog.

Pür X Boxycharm Palette Colour Story

Worst 3 Eyeshadow Palettes

It was also really hard to decide which three palettes I own are the worst aside from my first choice. I try not to be too negative but sometimes a palette really lets me down. Please remember that just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean that you won’t or shouldn’t like it. We all have different tastes and products can work completely different on us based on skin type or something as subjective as climate.

#1 Pür Cosmetics X Boxycharm Palette

ZOMG. This palette is awful! There were some batch issues on Boxycharm & Pür’s part for sure, on Ulta people have such conflicting reviews. This one definitely makes it to the top of my worst eyeshadow palettes list! For one there are too many orange shades that all looked the same on my eyes. The bright pops of colour blended right off my eye and faded so quickly that I would finish my base makeup and realize that the blue or pink shades had lost their intensity. You can check out my full review if you want to hear more about this eyeshadow palette and see the three looks I created with it, but I won’t hold it against you if you don’t. This palette isn’t worth your time, and certainly not your money.

ColourPop Element Of Surprise Palette Review

#2 ColourPop Element of Surprise Palette

I cringed putting including the Element of Surprise palette in the Worst Eyeshadow Palettes section. A lot of people love this palette and might be offended that I didn’t like it but I can’t help it. I was so excited to use this palette but it fell flat for me every single time I used it. I’ve only been able to create two looks that I would actually wear again with the EOS palette which is shockingly low with 12 shades to choose from! The eyeshadows don’t look the same on my eyes as the do in the pans and the gold shimmer/metallic shade has so much chunky glitter that it adds weird texture to my eye.

To make matters worse the shades that I was really excited for like the purple have little to no colour payoff unless applied directly over concealer. To make matters worse three shades are not intended for use on the eyes. WHAT ELSE WOULD I USE THEM FOR!? Anyways, if you want to know more about that check out my Element of Surprise Palette Review.

Sephora Wonderful Dreams Palette

#3 Sephora Wonderful Dreams Palette

My third Worst Eyeshadow Palette is the Sephora Wonderful Dreams Palette. This limited edition palette was a Christmas gift so I don’t want to declutter it. I feel sentimental about gifts, what can I say. This eyeshadow palette isn’t bad but compared to my palette collection today the Wonderful Dreams Palette doesn’t hold up. The mattes are chalky and have very little pigment while the shimmers barely stick to the eye. You can read my review Here but keep in mind this review is old and not as detailed or complete as the reviews I now write for my blog. I would update it but you can’t even buy this anymore.

What are your Favourite and Least Favourite Eyeshadow Palettes?

Thank you for reading! It was sooo hard to pick just three favourites. The Too Faced Peachy Mattes and Wet N Wild Rosé In The Air palettes are also worth a mention. I hope you enjoyed this blog post about my 3 Best & Worst Eyeshadow Palettes. Please like & subscribe to my blog if you aren’t already, you can do so on the sidebar! Talk Soon xx

The KL palette is really really good. I’ve only used it a few times and I love it so much I still need to find the time to review it lmao
For the worst palettes I’ll have to agree with the boxycharm and pur palette. It could have been better and i definitely expected it to be better lol

There are so many things to review, I only just caught up on my eyeshadow palette review pile! It’s a relief being done for a while! Hopefully you can find time to play with it more soon.
I don’t know what I should do with my boxycharm palette anymore, like should I keep it? Give it away? I’d hate to waste it but I know I won’t use it and I don’t really want to give someone a palette that I think is bad :S It’s a dilemma lol

      • November 15, 2018 / 11:48 pm

I’m gonna have to make a priority list for things I need to review and work through my pile. There’s so many things I want to do but I also want to review the products lol.
And omg sameee!! I contemplated on sending it to my mom and sis but I’m like, if I had a hard time blending, they’re not gonna know what else to do with it and they don’t really wear makeup either so I’m like ugh that wouldn’t be a good palette for them lol.

I need to do a no buy until I’ve actually reviewed all the things I’ve been meaning too. I have a pile of mascaras that I’ve never talked about on my blog, it’s such a missed opportunity.
I wish I could just send it back to boxycharm for a partial refund xD

          • November 17, 2018 / 10:50 am

I’m on a no buy until possibly my birthday next year lmao. I really want to try and review everything I already have and have used. It’s going to take a long time but I’m okay with that. I at least got a few new things to try lol

  2. November 12, 2018 / 9:07 am

I need to buy the ABH soft glam palette, it’s on my wish list! I still haven’t tried any Tarte palettes but I have my eyes on the Tartelette In Bloom palette, I can’t wait to try it. Great post as always x

      You’ll love it!
I haven’t tried the larger Tarte palettes but I think they’re the same formula as the minis. The Tartelettte in Bloom looks pretty!
      Thanks for reading x

People don’t talk much about the Tarte Tartelette Tease but it’s such a great little palette! It has everything you need and it’s a great size for travel too. I also have the Tarteist Pro To Go palette which is pretty good. I’m thinking of picking up the Tartelette Flirt palette too.

My current favourite palettes are Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate and Zoeva Cocoa Blend. I don’t have any that I absolutely hate but I do feel that both Viseart in Neutral Matte and Pat McGrath MTHRSHP Subliminal Platinum Bronze Palette are really overpriced for what they are.

It’s such a good palette! It’s technically “old” news so most people have forgotten about it but I love pulling it out every now and then. The tartelette Flirt Palette looks really great, I think you’d love it!

The cocoa blend has been on my wishlist forever! I don’t want to pay for shipping to canada which is the only reason I haven’t picked it up yet lol.
Really, viseart? I thought they were supposed to have one of the best formulas! That’s a shame it’s not amazing for the price, same with the Pat McGrath. Thanks for reading!

  4. November 11, 2018 / 5:21 pm

This was such a great post! I love hearing people’s favorites! I definitely have to say that I think my favorite palette is the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette! I’ve almost hit pan on more than one shade! For my least favorite palettes, I honestly don’t know which one I would choose. I think out of the palettes I own I would say my least favorite is my Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette. It’s cool cause it was limited edition. But there were only 5 shades, and they’re super basic. They are pigmented, so in terms of quality it’s not bad. It’s just that compared of my other palettes I barely reach for it! Great post Cleia xx

I still haven’t tried out the Modern Renaissance, I have that wet n wild color icon dupe for it which was close to my top 3. I love that color story!
It’s really hard to choose which palettes are the “worst”. I’m glad to hear that the quality of the Pulp fiction palette is good at least, even if you don’t reach for it as much!
      Thanks for reading xx

The soft glam palette is a dream come true! It’s so great for everyday and those soft pink and gold shimmers are great for special events.

Eyeshadow palettes are my weakness! I try to keep my palettes under $20, I would be so broke if I bought all the high end ones lol
      Thanks for reading!

Awesome post! I have to say Wet n’ Wild has some of my favorite palettes. And Juvia’s Place as well.

Wet N Wild has an amazing formula for the price, I love their color Icon palettes! I hope they come out with more varieties. What’s your favourite Juvia’s place palette? I’ve only tried the Nubian 2!

      • November 10, 2018 / 12:02 am

Probably the Saharan; it’s got a lot of bright pops like green, orange & gold. But I also love the original Nubian, you can get some great everyday looks with that palette. And the Warrior is totally beautiful as well; really soft shimmers, golds & bronzes. Honestly they’re all so good!

It’s so hard to pick just one! I’ve also been eyeing the masquerade palette, it looks really fun. Same with the saharan!

  7. November 9, 2018 / 4:29 pm

The worst eyeshadow palette I ever tried and owned was a dupe for the Naked 3 by W7 – the formula was so dry and didn’t blend at all. One of my most used palettes that I still enjoy today is ‘The Nudes’ by Maybelline 😀

Oh no that sounds horrible! From what I’ve heard the naked palettes don’t have the best formula to start with :S I haven’t tried any of them though.
I remember when that palette came out! I’m glad you still love it. Thank you for reading x

      • November 9, 2018 / 9:42 pm

I haven’t tried any of the Naked palettes either. Some people really like them and other people could give or take them.

Really enjoyed reading this post!! I really love the ABH soft glam palette, it’s one of my favorite palettes! I would understand why the Element Of Surprise palette is part of your worst, the colors don’t tell me anything too.

Thanks Joy! The Soft Glad is such a great palette, I love using it when I pull it out 🙂
I was so bummed that I didn’t like the element of surprise. A lot of people seem to like it but yeah the colors are just meh for me. Thank you for reading!

  10. November 9, 2018 / 8:45 am

I really like the look of the ABH Soft Glam palette! I really love that there are some peachy/orange-toned shades in there without being too warm or too peachy. It’s that nice neutral in-between which I think is still different from the typical browns.I don’t own an ABH eyeshadow palette but I think that would be the one I’d get. I’ve been playing with the Revolution Soph X palette though and omg, love it. I’m gonna continue playing with it.

The Soft Glam palette is really great! It’s not quite as bold and warm as the modern renaissance and I think it would be great for a lot of occasions, not just one time of year.
I’m so glad to hear that you love the Extra Spice palette! It’s fantastic, I love the matte yellow shade in it! Thank you for reading!
