I first saw the Becca Cosmetics Hydra Mist Setting powder in an Allie Glines video on Youtube. I thought the title of the video was kind of gimmicky, but I was shocked to hear that this powder actually felt like putting water on your skin.
The powder is formulated with 50% water & glycerin, and even though it appears to be very much a powder in the container everyone was saying that it literally feels like water. Crazy right? Ever since seeing that video I vowed that I would one day try out this mythical setting powder. It sounds like a dream for girls with dry skin, does it not?
When I got an email offer from Boxycharm to add the Becca Hydra Mist Setting Powder to the September box I knew I had to resubscribe. Honestly all that was holding me back was the price, so to get the powder plus 5 other products for $26USD was an incredible deal. So did the Hydra Mist Powder hold up? Did It actually feel like water on my skin? Keep reading to find out!
Becca Hydra Mist Setting Powder Review
The Becca Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Setting Powder retails for $51CAD ($39USD) and contains 10g of product. There is also a mini available containing 5g which retails for $25. There are two shades available, Golden Bronze or Translucent. Hydra Mist Set & Refresh powder claims to cool, blur fine lines and set makeup with a “revitalizing, mist-like effect” and no photo flashback.
The product is formulated with 50% water to set even the driest of skin. You guys know that I’m a dry skinned gal, so this powder sounded perfect to me!

The packaging is so fancy! After two years of using the Coty Airspun powder the Becca Hydra Mist powder feels downright luxurious. I love the packaging even more than the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder Glow that I reviewed last year.
The packaging features a mirrored lid and second cover inside to keep the powder from drying out. Hydra Mist also contains a sifter. I know a lot of people don’t like sifters but I don’t mind them. If anything they keep me from losing all the product when I inevitably drop the powder. I’m a little clumsy…
Does it really feel like water?
I was skeptical of all the reviews, but after trying it myself I can really say applying this powder with a brush that it does feel like misting water on my face! I use my Becca Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Powder as an undereye setting powder and it feels fantastic on my skin.
The brush I use for setting my undereyes & face is the Luxie 660 brush. It has the perfect shape for my under eye area and is nice and fluffy without getting powder everywhere. It really feels like a light mist is touching my skin when I apply the hydra mist powder!
Because the Hydra Mist Set & refresh setting powder has such a high water content I think it’s the perfect setting powder for dry skin. I was always skeptical about spending money on “high end” setting powders, but this is one product I will be repurchasing. I have so much trouble with cakeyness under my eyes because my skin is so dry, and my makeup has never looked so good!
My concealer creases less which means that my fine lines aren’t as visible. It also has a very slight blurring effect. I’ve used it on my T zone and my small fine lines and pores are less visible after setting.
Since I switched from the Coty Airspun powder to Becca Hydra Mist my skin has looked so much better! I’m shook.
My only complaint is the price. $51 is a lot, but it takes me a long time to use up setting powders so it’s more of an investment than money I’m throwing away. I noticed that the travel size has basically the same value as the full size according to Sephora so I will probably purchase the travel size when I run out.
