A Powder that feels like water!? Becca Hydra Mist Setting Powder Review

I first saw the Becca Cosmetics Hydra Mist Setting powder in an Allie Glines video on Youtube. I thought the title of the video was kind of gimmicky, but I was shocked to hear that this powder actually felt like putting water on your skin.

The powder is formulated with 50% water & glycerin, and even though it appears to be very much a powder in the container everyone was saying that it literally feels like water. Crazy right? Ever since seeing that video I vowed that I would one day try out this mythical setting powder. It sounds like a dream for girls with dry skin, does it not?

When I got an email offer from Boxycharm to add the Becca Hydra Mist Setting Powder to the September box I knew I had to resubscribe. Honestly all that was holding me back was the price, so to get the powder plus 5 other products for $26USD was an incredible deal. So did the Hydra Mist Powder hold up? Did It actually feel like water on my skin? Keep reading to find out!

Becca Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Setting Powder

Becca Hydra Mist Setting Powder Review

The Becca Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Setting Powder retails for $51CAD ($39USD) and contains 10g of product. There is also a mini available containing 5g which retails for $25. There are two shades available, Golden Bronze or Translucent. Hydra Mist Set & Refresh powder claims to cool, blur fine lines and set makeup with a “revitalizing, mist-like effect” and no photo flashback.

The product is formulated with 50% water to set even the driest of skin. You guys know that I’m a dry skinned gal, so this powder sounded perfect to me!

Becca Cosmetics Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Review

The packaging is so fancy! After two years of using the Coty Airspun powder the Becca Hydra Mist powder feels downright luxurious. I love the packaging even more than the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder Glow that I reviewed last year.

The packaging features a mirrored lid and second cover inside to keep the powder from drying out. Hydra Mist also contains a sifter. I know a lot of people don’t like sifters but I don’t mind them. If anything they keep me from losing all the product when I inevitably drop the powder. I’m a little clumsy…

Does it really feel like water?

I was skeptical of all the reviews, but after trying it myself I can really say applying this powder with a brush that it does feel like misting water on my face! I use my Becca Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Powder as an undereye setting powder and it feels fantastic on my skin.

The brush I use for setting my undereyes & face is the Luxie 660 brush. It has the perfect shape for my under eye area and is nice and fluffy without getting powder everywhere. It really feels like a light mist is touching my skin when I apply the hydra mist powder!

Becca Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Powder Review

Because the Hydra Mist Set & refresh setting powder has such a high water content I think it’s the perfect setting powder for dry skin. I was always skeptical about spending money on “high end” setting powders, but this is one product I will be repurchasing. I have so much trouble with cakeyness under my eyes because my skin is so dry, and my makeup has never looked so good!

My concealer creases less which means that my fine lines aren’t as visible. It also has a very slight blurring effect. I’ve used it on my T zone and my small fine lines and pores are less visible after setting.

Since I switched from the Coty Airspun powder to Becca Hydra Mist my skin has looked so much better! I’m shook.

My only complaint is the price. $51 is a lot, but it takes me a long time to use up setting powders so it’s more of an investment than money I’m throwing away. I noticed that the travel size has basically the same value as the full size according to Sephora so I will probably purchase the travel size when I run out.

Have you tried the Becca Cosmetics Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Powder?

I love when I can share products with you that I completely recommend and this is one of those products. I have never been so impressed by a setting powder. Have you tried it!? Let me know! Thank you for reading x

This sounds amazing! I JUST started using a setting powder (I know, I know.) and while it has helped my make-up, it can feel a bit cake-y when I put it on. I definitely need to look into this. Though like you said, I think I will have my setting powder for at least a year! <3

It’s definitely not a necessity, but it’s nice to have around 🙂 I only started using it a year or two ago. This one is nice & hydrating!

My sister got this product in our boxycharm, and she loves it! She said the same exact thing! I think I’m going to purchase my own once I run out of my current powder. Great post ! xxx

This powder sounds incredible!! It seems pretty magical to actually be a powder but feel like water! So crazy lol.

It’s such a cool product! The water effect still boggles my mind 😂

I hadnt heard of this product at all until I received it in my boxycharm and I was so blown away by it I was mesmerized and I couldn’t get over it hahaha
I have used it all over many times but I like it more for my under eyes because my makeup doesnt crease with it. I fucking love it. I thought the price was a bit high too but I dont use setting powders as often it takes me a long time to finish them so I will definitely be purchasing this powder myself when I run out

I’m so glad you love it too!! It will be great in the winter to have a powder that doesn’t dry my face out. I’ve heard that the water effect goes away eventually so I might purchase a mini if I ever use it up, but right now I love it!

      • October 25, 2019 / 9:24 am

Does it really?? I’ll have to use it asap then. May get a mini as well lol

Great review, Cleia! I agree that the hefty price is still worth it for this amazing powder! I won’t go on too much because I’ve already told you enough times how much I love it, too. 😂

Thanks! I’m so happy I got to try it out 😊

I’ve had this powder for more than a year and sadly I can attest the cooling “water” sensation fades after 6 months (or less, depending how often you expose the product to air). I still like the powder, I find it works great on both my oily t-zone (at least, it keeps it mattified longer than my Hourglass Veil powder does) and it sets my textured, dry areas without drying the skin or adding texture.
I’ve used it during the humid summer far more than any other powder I own due to its longevity on my combination skin. It will fail in the oily t-zone after a few hours, but the melting all over the face turns from matte to a satin finish that will look natural and still work to prevent the foundation from disappearing. In Winter there were days it did emphasise creases in my dry areas, so it’s definitely a Summer powder for me.

Even though I’m not a fan of loose setting powders, I think one day I will have to try this one out. It just sounds too amazing! I have dry skin too.

    • October 14, 2019 / 12:52 pm

It’s such a unique product! I actually look forward to setting my face, which is a little weird for me 😂

  8. October 8, 2019 / 12:31 am

I haven’t seen any bad reviews about this powder so far! Glad you’re enjoying it and it is working well with your skin 🙂 how much product do you get in the sample as opposed to the full size?

    • October 14, 2019 / 12:52 pm

The travel size I believe is just under half the amount of the full size, and it’s half the price. So still a pretty good deal considering how long a setting powder can last!

I’ve always wanted to try this powder because of the “it feels like water” claims, but I’ve always said I’ll get it when I finished my LM Translucent setting powder, and I’ve been using that thing for years and used like 2% of it haha. A lot of people seem to be on the fence about this powder for some reason, but I’m really glad you like it!

    • October 14, 2019 / 12:51 pm

Setting powder takes forever to use up! I still have my coty airspun power from 2 years ago 😂

I hope it holds up over time, a few people told me the water sensation went away after a few months so I’m hoping mine will last
