Hi everyone! Today I have a product to share with you that I am very excited about: The Bali Body Gradual Tan Moisturizer. Bali Body reached out and offered to send over their new Gradual Tan Moisturizer. This moisturizer is exciting for me because I had never used a tanning product before this one! I’ve never been to a tanning salon, and I’m wary of getting sunburned. In the Summer you can find me in the shade slathered in SPF with a hat on my head.
I’ve never felt a burning desire to wear self tanner. I’m not confident in my ability to apply it I would be worried about turning orange. Ross’s spray tan episode of Friend’s come to mind for anyone? So you can see why an easy, gradual sort of tanning product might appeal to me.
*Bali Body also makes some of my favourite liquid highlighters, which have actually reduced in price since I reviewed them in 2019. My main issue with the price was the value, and now that these highlighters are $23 CAD I can’t recommend them enough!

The Bali Body Gradual Face Tan Moisturizer retails for $41.95CAD and contains 1.69oz of product. This moisturizer has a small amount of self tanner in it for a radiant glow. For best results it’s recommended for use every 1-2 days.
This moisturizer contains skin-loving ingredients Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter and Vitamin E.
Bali Body is 100% vegan.
First of all, how beautiful is this packaging? Bali body always does a great job at presentation. This is my first time using a moisturizer that comes with one of these push pumps. I was expecting a jar that I would have to scoop with a spatula or my fingers. The pump is definitely an upgrade, it keeps the product sanitary and clean.
To apply the Gradual Face Tan I use my fingers and massage the cream into my face & neck. Because this is a very gradual face tanning product I haven’t had any issues with the product staining my hands. You definitely don’t need a mitt or anything like that to apply. I always wash my hands after applying, and I haven’t had any problems. But maybe if I didn’t they would get a weird tan over time. I don’t want to find out!
I chose to apply the cream during my evening skincare routine. My morning routine uses a mild BHA toner from Paula’s choice, which is meant to stay on your skin instead of being rinsed off. BHA can actually remove self tanner and cause a patchy application so I don’t use both at the same time.
In the evening I apply the cream about an hour before bed so the moisturizer has time to absorb. I haven’t noticed any staining on my pillow from the formula, but I still recommend letting it absorb before going to bed, especially if you’re a stomach sleeper like I am.
I didn’t see a noticeable change in my skin tone for at least a week and a half of daily use, and the change I did see was very subtle. This face tan moisturizer works gradually, just as the product claims. My skin looked lightly sunkissed, not burned or orange. The tan was very even without blotchiness or streaks. The formula is quite fool proof! I backed off my usage to every second day around the 2.5 weeks mark.
As I mentioned earlier, BHA exfoliating products seem to remove a little bit of the tan. When I used a BHA toner everyday the colour from the tan faded faster, so keep that in mind if you use a chemical exfoliant daily.
I’ve been using this moisturizer for about a month, and I’ve now gone back to daily application because I was exfoliating more than usual while testing another product. The once a day application seemed to work best for me to keep some warmth in my complexion.
After a month of use I certainly don’t look like I’ve been lying on a beach. My skin tone is still pale, but I have a little bit more warmth than normal. Since I don’t use tanning products regularly I’m happy with how subtle the results are.
If you’re looking for something stronger Bali Body has other tanning products to choose from, including their face tan water & self tanning mousse. Please keep in mind I haven’t tried these, so I can’t speak to their effectiveness.
Is it Hydrating?
Okay, so I’ve gone over application and tanning, and now I need to tell you how luxurious the formula of this moisturizer is! I was not expecting to fall in love with the formula, so much so that I wish that there was a version free of self tanner available. It would be great to have another version to use when I’m between applications.
My skin type is extra dry, and it’s now approaching the time of year where I start to struggle with tight dry patches. My skin is always extra hydrated and smooth the morning after using the Bali Body Gradual Face Tan. It’s full of skin loving ingredients like sweet almond oil, shea butter & cocoa seed butter, and it’s worked really well for my skin. I haven’t broken out once since incorporating this moisturizer into my evening routine.
I usually prefer gel moisturizers such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost and Ole Henriksen C-Rush; however this formula absorbs into my skin so quickly without feeling greasy and hydrated really well. This is one of the few cream moisturizers that I would consider purchasing once my skincare stash is depleted.
I was excited to try the Bali Body Gradual Face Tan moisturizer when the brand first reached out, but I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. I was actually a little nervous going into the testing period since this was my first ever experience with self tanner. It turned out that I didn’t need to be worried at all. I didn’t turn orange and I still look like myself.
I don’t see myself getting into full-on self tanner in the future, but I will absolutely use up this entire moisturizer. Now I just need a tan free version to wear everyday!
