If the BH Cosmetics Hanging in Hawaii Palette isn’t the perfect Summer Palette I don’t know what is. I first swatched BH Cosmetics eyeshadows while at an Ulta in Hawaii this past December, and it started my BH Cosmetics obsession. It was my first time trying their eyeshadows and I walked out of that Ulta covered in makeup. My family seemed confused about why I had tiger stripes of eyeshadow all over my arms, but as any makeup lover knows, you have to swatch it! (Maybe not right now precisely with Covid going on, but you know what I mean). I always have makeup on the back of my hands!
Although the BH Cosmetics Hanging in Hawaii palette is mostly neutral, those neutral shades are the bomb! They’re so smooth, so pigmented, so blendable, and the addition of some warm oranges and pinks makes it something I want to reach for on any Summer long weekend or hot sunny day. This is the third palette I’ve reviewed in BH’s travel palette series, and it’s just as amazing as the other two.
BH Cosmetics Hanging in Hawaii Palette Review
The BH Cosmetics Hanging in Hawaii palette is the perfect Summer or vacation palette. It retails for $16 and contains 16 shadows in a mix of matte and high shine metallic finishes. I highly recommend BH Cosmetics’ travel series palettes! The only two I don’t have are the Beautiful in Barcelona and Trendy in Tokyo palettes, and you can bet they’re on my wishlist.
The bright pink & palm tree design really shouts vacation vibes. I feel like I should be sipping a mimosa and eating pineapple for breakfast when I look at it! These are actually shades that I would bring on vacation with me as well, when I travel I usually don’t go for extra colourful makeup. I prefer neutrals with maybe a pop of a wearable colour, like a pink or orange.
I appreciate that these palettes are cardboard instead of plastic. My plastic palettes never hold up the way cardboard palettes do. They have a tendency to crack, and provide next to no cushion when dropped. A plastic palette is far more likely to experience eyeshadow cracking and crumbling when dropped. A cardboard palette absorbs the impact much better.
I’m loving these sandy & sunny neutrals! This is the perfect combination of warm & cool (but mostly warm) tan shades with some fun oranges & pinks for a pops of colour. The mattes actually remind me a lot of the Too Faced Peachy Mattes Palette, however I don’t think it would be a fair comparison because Hanging in Hawaii also contains some gorgeous & shiny metallics to go along with the mattes.
I rarely wear a completely matte look, I love shimmers on my eyes too much! This palette is the perfect compromise where you could easily put together an all matte look but you have some gorgeous champagne and bronze shimmers. There’s even a deeper plum metallic shade, Luau which is great for a more dramatic look, or placed on the edges of the eyelids to build depth within your look.
Other shades that I find useful are Hula, which is my go to browbone and inner corner highlight, Honolulu, which is great as an eyeliner, and Paradise which I’ve actually used as a blush!
Pigmentation, Fallout & Blend
This palette performs very much the same as my other BH Cosmetics palettes, with the exception of Glam Rosé which has a harder pressed formula. These shades are incredibly soft to the touch and quite pigmented. The metallics swatch & wear beautifully applied wet or dry, and the mattes blend out with minimal effort. They don’t disappear while blending or skip on the eyelids, which is a must!
The mattes remind me a little bit of the matte formula in my ABH soft Glam palette. The metallics aren’t quite the same, but their extra pigmented and buttery smooth quality is similar.
Because the shadows are so soft there is going to be fallout. Tapping out my brush helps reduce it, but I generally plan to do my eyes first.
I don’t have anything bad to say about these shadows, the formula is rock solid.
Hanging In Hawaii Swatches
I did these swatches without any primer. They apply much more pigmented with a brush, especially over primer. It’s actually odd when a palette is much more pigmented during actual uses than applied with stencils, but that is certainly the case here. I hope you can see how reflective the metallic shades are!
Also I have to mention just how much I love this nail polish. This is Essie Of Quartz and it is stunning! You must check out this shade if you don’t have a champagne shimmer polish already.
BH Cosmetics Hanging In Hawaii Palette
I’ve been wearing this second bolder look quite a bit this summer. The orange on the outer corners and deeper pink shimmer look really pretty together.
I applied the shimmers wet this time, and instead of making them look ultra metallic these BH Cosmetics shimmers take on a “wet” quality when you apply them with some setting spray. They’ll still look wet after the shadow dries and I love the effect!
It’s actually rare that I wear eyeliner these days, so I left one look pretty simple with just a short pair of lashes to go with it.
I love that even with all of the pinks and oranges you can still create a good old bronze neutral eye with the Hanging in Hawaii Palette. The high shine metallics are really something special.
The palette has a couple different shades of brown, some are more warm and some are cooler so you can really create any type of look with it. This look is a halo eye with some of the Waikiki shimmer on the outer edges and a combo of Sandy and Pineapple on the center of the eyelids. I can’t get enough of Sandy!
I couldn’t finish this review without doing something with the bright pink Paradise shade! I basically just placed it all over my eyelids. It’s very bold, and I love it!
I think I’ve been in a bit of a creative rut so it was fun to do something more colourful than usual.
What do you think of the Hanging in Hawaii Palette?
I’m really loving this eyeshadow palette. I know it’s neutral and probably unnecessary with my current makeup collection but the formula is excellent and these are shades I’ll reach for often. I think it was a great buy.
I have about four other palettes to review right now, but all I want to do is reach for this one! I guess I’ll have to set it aside for a while…
