Hey beauties! It’s time for another collection break down. Today we’re talking about the ColourPop Birthday Collection. ColourPop usually releases a new Super Shock Shadow for their birthday month but I wasn’t expecting a whole collection, especially after they just released a new collection with Shayla.
The birthday collection… isn’t what I expected. I posted an insta story poll asking if you guys wanted a review of the Main Squeeze palette and the majority of my followers said NO. Message received, I wasn’t sure that I was feeling the collection either! I still wanted to talk about it in some way, so I decided to write a collection break down.

Break It Down: ColourPop Birthday Collection 2019
ColourPop’s birthday collection celebrates their 5th birthday as a company. It released on May 16th 2019. It’s crazy how quickly ColourPop has grown, they’ve surpassed 7 million followers on instagram! They never seem to slow down, they’re constantly releasing new products. Case & Point: A full collection for their birthday. Unfortunately this collection really missed the mark for me, which is incredibly disappointing after how much I loved their Spring Collection.
Main Squeeze Shadow Palette
Ummm why is the Main Squeeze Palette marketed as a Watermelon palette? It’s more fitting as a Strawberry palette, because none of these shades remind me of watermelon. A watermelon palette should have had at least one green for watermelon rind and a black for the watermelon seeds. I would have actually gone for a palette like that, but instead we have this collection of strawberry reds and pink.
I think that this is ColourPop’s response to all the Watermelon products all over instagram right now. Ulta just released a new watermelon facial spray (which I’m dying to try) and Glow Recipe has been killing it with their watermelon theme. The Main Squeeze palette misses the mark for me.
Anyways, there have been people asking for a red palette to fit in with ColourPop’s monochromatic themed palettes so I guess it fits. Personally red shadows don’t really work for me, I look sick when I have red on my eyes so I’ll be passing on the Main Squeeze Palette.

Birthday Treat Super Shock Shadow
Any purchase during ColourPop’s birthday celebration qualifies for a free super shock birthday shadow. Just looking at this shade it reminds me of Tea Party which is a shade I already have. I actually love Tea Party so I can see the appeal of this shade if you don’t already have a peachy glitter Super Shock Shadow.
I won’t be making a purchase at ColourPop anytime soon (at least I’m not planning on it) so I won’t be picking this up.
I haven’t tried the So Juicy glosses yet. They kind of remind me of the CO Bigelow glosses that were sold at Bath & Body Works a while ago. I actually liked those a lot and I’m curious to how those compare, but I wouldn’t place an order just for a lip gloss.
The shade looks nice, but I’m not excited about it if I’m being honest.
New Gliterally Obsessed Shades
These new shades of Gliterally Obsessed are pretty but I’m honestly not one for glitter so I won’t be picking them up. From left to right we have Trippin On Skies and Bring The Heat. Each of these are available individually and ColourPop also released the Star Gazing Mini Trio containing 3 shades that were already available. There are also a few sets of Super Nova Shadows that came with with other shades of Gliterally Obsessed.
They’re not for me, but if you love them you do you!
New Super Nova Shadow Shades
I was kind of confused about the Birthday Collection because it contains a lot of different sets which contain products you can’t buy individually. Normally ColourPop will sell vault sets containing all the products in a collection but they generally make every product available without buying a set.
There are three new Super Nova Shadows. From Left to Right they are Ice Pop, Sand Castle, and Hazy. The pink looks beautiful but I don’t like the Super Nova Shadow Formula so it’s a no-brainer for me, I won’t be picking these up.
Ultra Matte & Ultra Glossy Lips
ColourPop did the same thing with their lipsticks… they released sets of products you can’t buy individually. WTF is all I have to say about that. There is one lipstick you can buy on its own and that’s Melonade, a strawberry red.
Next we have three different lip sets, each containing an Ultra Matte Lip & an Ultra Glossy Lip. The first set is the Sweet Crush Set which contains a pinky-red called Sherbet Shop and a sheer, almost purple gloss called Granita.
The Slice Of Life Set contains a peachy gloss called Fresco and a soft pink called Swing Away.
The last set is the Out Of Your Rind Set which contains a hot pink lipstick (On the Grill) and a sheer pink gloss (Scorcher).
I love ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Lip formula as well as their lip glosses but I would rather purchase them separately to choose the shades that I really want instead of getting a set.
Best Served Chilled Set
Last but not least in the 2019 ColourPop Birthday collection is the Best Served Chilled Set which contains a Fourth Ray Beauty Watermelon Face Milk, Watermelon Seed Oil, and a Watermelon Lippie Scrub. The only product you can’t buy individually is the Lippie Scrub.
ColourPop’s Lippie Scrubs are awesome, I have Razzle Dazzle and it tastes amazing. I can only imagine how good the Watermelon Lippie Scrub would taste but I don’t want to buy a full set just for the scrub. I don’t know what’s going on with their Lippie Balms & Lippie Scrubs. They released a full range of different colours/flavours and now there are only a few left on the website.
The Watermelon Face Milk & Oil are supposed to be great for balancing the skin. I already have the watermelon seed oil and am in the process of testing it out. If you’re interested in trying Fourth Ray Beauty & ColourPop’s lip scrub then this might be a good set for you, but I think there are better sets out there, especially if you order directly from Fourth Ray’s website.

What do you think of ColourPop’s 2019 Birthday Collection?
I’m rather put off by all the products that I can’t buy individually. Maybe they’ll release more individually after the initial craze wears off but I’m just not all that interested. By the time that happens I’m sure ColourPop will have released 6 new collections…
I also think that this should be considered a Strawberry collection, I don’t really see watermelon in any of these products. There was a lot of potential in the idea but it fell flat for me. What do you guys think? Thanks for reading, talk soon!
