ColourPop Give It To Me Straight vs. Double Entendre | Which is Better?

Hey beauties! It’s been a long time since I reviewed the ColourPop Give It To Me Straight & Double Entendre palettes, but since then I’ve been asked for direct comparisons between the two palettes.

I was rather surprised about that. These palettes are completely different in my opinion. The Give it To Me Straight palette is in a mauve & copper colour family while the Double Entendre Palette leans orange & gold and is overall more neutral. I wanted to share a direct comparison between these palettes for everyone who has been wanting a break down of the two palettes. I won’t be comparing packaging because you can tell just from looking at both palettes that the packaging designs are different. You can shop both palettes Here!

ColourPop Give It To Me Straight vs. Double Entendre:
Colour Story

As I said, the Give It To Me Straight Palette is definitely more mauve than the Double Entendre Palette. Both palettes are warm but I would say that the Give It To Me Straight Palette is slightly cooler than the Double Entendre Palette with the addition of the purple shades. The shades in the Double Entendre palette tend to pull extra warm against my pale skin. Even though the description claims that the DE palette contains both warm & cool shades I don’t find this to be the case.

The looks that I get with each palette are very different. I find the Give it to me straight palette leads to looks that are soft & romantic while the Double Entendre palette gives me looks that are more bronzed & understated. The Double entendre palette is what I reach for when I want something simple for work, but the Give it To Me Straight is what I use when I want to look extra cute!

ColourPop Double Entendre VS GITMS Palettes

ColourPop’s pressed powder shadow formula is pretty consistent across palettes. There’s only one main difference between the finishes in the two eyeshadow palettes: The GITMS palette contains only matte & metallic shades while the DE palette contains mattes, metallics & one satin shade. I hate ColourPop’s satin formula so for me the satin shade in the DE palette is unusable.

Besides that I think the formula is very consistent between both pressed powder palettes.

Swatch Comparisons

These swatches are swipe pigmentation on my arm. I didn’t use a primer but a primer will bump up the intensity a lot. You can see that the colour stories would work well together, but DE is more orange and GITMS has more mauve.

Which Palette Is Better?

My personal opinion is that Give It To Me Straight is the better palette out of the two. Give it To Me Straight just seems more versatile to me. I can create so many more looks with it than I can with the DE palette. The purple shades are stunning and pair surprisingly well with the copper shades. I especially love the shade BS with it’s gold glitter.

The Double Entendre Palette is neutral and frankly kind of boring to me these days. If you’re a makeup collector like me chances are that you have several if not more neutral palettes already, so the DE is really not a necessity unless you’re lacking the orange transition shades in your collection. If I was going to recommend a neutral palette from ColourPop my choice would be the Brown Sugar Palette hands down. I included it in my Best Makeup of 2018 for a reason, I’m obsessed with it.

That being said I do like using the DE Palette in conjunction with more colourful palettes. I have a few palettes that lack transition shades so if warm transition shades are something that you need the Double Entendre Palette has you covered.

If you’re trying to decide between the two I would 100% go with the GITMS Palette over the DE, but you know your own makeup collection better than I do. Maybe you already have ten mauve palettes, and in that case the DE would be the better choice.

I’ve been stuck between these two for a while and can’t seem to decide which to buy! I love the colours of GITMS but I’m looking for an everyday-makeup palette that I can use before going to school/work. I’m also fairly new at makeup and don’t have that many other palettes. I also lack the skills to be able to execute an advanced look. Which palette do you think I should go for?
I feel like maybe GITMS won’t give me as much if I’m looking for a neutral everyday-look, or am I wrong?
Someone told me that I should go with DE if I want the natural look but then I also heard that GITMS is better for that specific purpose. Haha, I’m torn between the two and would really appreciate any help I can get!

Sorry for the late reply Bella!
I personally love the GITMS more, BUT if what you’re looking for is something for work I think the DE palette will give you more you can easily use. Just about every shade in that palette can be used for a simple, natural everyday eye look and the give it to me straight does require a bit more blending just because there is such a contrast between the mauve & orange tones. I think the deeper shimmers in the GITMS are best suited for cut creases & halo eyes. You can absolutely get an easy everyday eye with both though, but I think overall the DE would be more useable to you.
      I don’t think you’d regret purchasing either!

Ooh yass! They’re both so pretty but I’d probably go with the GITMS palette too! I don’t think I have any mauve toned palettes.

      It’s a great palette, I 100% recommend it!

Based on a basic overview of the colours, I would definitely go for GITMS over DE, easy. And after seeing the swatches, it’s a definite yes from me.
Such an in-depth post, I love it!

I’m so glad that you agree! The GITMS is definitely more interesting. Thanks for reading! x

Based on looks alone, I would agree with GITMS as your recommendation! It looks more unique, at least for a gal like me who owns a lot of warm-toned neutral palettes.

Out of curiosity, what makes the Brown Sugar palette stand out from other neutral palettes for you? I just started using it this week!

GITMS is much more interesting! I hoped I would love the double entendre palette more than I did. The formula is still good but the shades aren’t as exciting!

I found the formula of the Brown sugar palette to be somehow better than most of my other ColourPop palettes. Not that any of my other palettes are bad but the shimmers are super smooth and pigmented and the mattes blended out for me so easily didn’t pull extra warm on me like the shades in the Double Entendre palette. I also love that it has a charcoal shade, I’m always scared of black eyeshadow but I reach for that charcoal all the time. I guess it feels like of grungy and gives me 90s vibes.

What do you think of it so far?

      • January 30, 2019 / 8:17 am

Hmm interesting. As you know I don’t have a lot of experience with ColourPop palettes so it’s interesting to see you love that one so much more! I’ve only used it three times but I’m really enjoying it so far. All of the shades are really high quality!

I definitely agree, I think GITMS has a great color scheme and more variety overall, and DE could be good for those who want a basic warm neutral palette. I like both! And Iโ€™ve got to check out the Brown Sugar palette based on your recommendation! Even though I definitely donโ€™t need any more palettes lol.
Great post as always! Your posts are always so interesting and high quality ๐Ÿ’•

I love that the GITMS has pinks & purples, but not in an overwhelmingly pink way lol
But I don’t regret purchasing my DE palette, it’s good for days when I just need an easy makeup look.
      Thank you so much! x

Before I clicked on the post, I actually thought the palettes were very similar, and then once I got a better look at the palettes I could see the differences in both of them. I definitely agree with your recommendation in saying that the DE is too neutral, and the typical person already has a lot of these. I love the GITMS though! It’s super pretty. Great post Cleia xxx

I think a lot of people thought the same thing, I get so many searches on my blog for comparisons! I rarely reach for the DE palette, but the GITMS is one of my favourites. And it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day coming up!
      Thanks for reading Melina!

Both palettes look so pretty but I think I would prefer the GITMS palette because I love copper and mauve shades!

I’m with you 100% on that! The GITMS is one of my favourite palettes ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m so glad you posted this! I actually found your blog a few days ago when I was looking for swatches of GITMS because I was trying to decide between it or DE. You’ve swayed me towards GITMS haha

Yay I’m so glad I could help! I do have swatches of each palette is their individual reviews, but it’s helpful to see the palettes side by side. I hope you love the GITMS palette if you do end up ordering it! x
