ColourPop can’t stop won’t stop. In addition to launching a new product or two (or five) every week, they have now launched their second sister brand, Sol Body. The Sol Body Shimmering Dry Oil is the new brand’s first product and I was actually excited for it!
I have had several body oils on my wish list this summer, including the ABH body oil which is hella expensive. ColourPop/Sol Body launching a body oil that retails for only fifteen bucks is amazing! Naturally I ordered it in my most recent Colourpop Haul and I’m excited to share this review with you!

Where to Buy Sol Body
First things first, you can only buy Sol Body at ColourPop. It’s weird that they’re considered their own brand when they don’t have their own place to shop from, but I can see why ColourPop wanted to streamline the process. You can buy ColourPop, Fourth Ray Beauty and Sol Body all in one place which is convenient and saves on shipping costs from each brand.
I do want to talk about the Sol Body section of ColourPop’s website. Franky, I hate it. Instead of having a little icon for each product there are giant close ups of people’s skin which I have to scroll all the way through on my 13″ macbook pro because my screen size is too small. I hate having to scroll through all these pictures to find out which oil is featured in each photo.
The site would be much more user friendly if Sol Body had each glow oil bottle in a box like the rest of the products on CP’s website and then you can scroll through the pictures to see each body oil on different skin tones as opposed to one skin tone per shade.
Sol Body Shimmering Body Oil Review
it’s that friday feeling in a bottle. delivers a shimmering, good-for-the-sol glow that nourishes skin and highlights your highlights. a shimmering ivory gold with highlights of silver and gold pearl. works for all bodies and skintones.
The Sol Body Shimmering Dry Oil comes in four different shades: Platinum, Soft Gold, Warm Gold, and Bronze. It retails for $15USD and contains 3oz of product for a value of $5/oz. I chose the shade Soft Gold.
For reference so you know just how good of a price that is the ABH Shimmer body oil has a value of $25.33/oz and the Sol De Janeiro Glomotions oil has a value of $18.4/oz. The cheapest body oil that I could find with shimmer is the Tarte Sugar Rush Shimmer Time Oil and it has a value of $11.89/oz.
The Sol Body Shimmering Dry Oil & Glow Oils are packaged in a luxurious glass bottle. I’m surprised at this luxe touch — ColourPop packaging tends to be a little on the cheaper side (don’t hate me for saying this please) and with the value of this oil I was expecting a plastic bottle. They must be working on stepping things up!
The plastic nozzle is similar to the one on the No Filter Foundation, with the only difference being that it doesn’t lock. I wish that the oil nozzle could lock, it would make me much more comfortable knowing that I won’t accidentally get shimmery sparkles all over myself or my house.
The nozzle also has a tendency to squirt. My recommendation is to press slowly on it when you dispense the liquid so it doesn’t make a mess.
There is a very good reason why ColourPop/Sol Body features a body kabuki brush to apply the Shimmering Dry Oil. The oil gets everywhere when I use my hands. I have to wash my hands afterwards because they’re coated in shimmer. If you want to use this oil I suggest applying it after you shower and before you put on your top if you want to apply around your shoulders. It has a tendency to get on clothing.
You can use your hands to apply the Sol Body Shimmering Dry Oil but it will be a little messy and the application can be streaky. I think a brush is the better way to go.
Now talking fragrance, this Dry Oil smells amazing! I think I’m smelling coconut with hints of vanilla. If this scent came in a perfume bottle I would buy it. I’m really curious to see if Sol Body will start selling fragrance like Sol De janeiro. At ColourPop prices I would buy this scent in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately the fragrance doesn’t last incredibly long on the skin — It lingers for only an hour or so.
Because the Sol Body Shimmering body oil is a dry oil it doesn’t really moisturize my skin the way a regular oil would. I apply the oil to get the shimmer on my body and any greasiness or oiliness seems to evaporate right off. If you don’t like feeling oily you would probably enjoy the weightless feel of this product.
I enjoy the feel of it and the delicious smell, but there are some issues with this oil. For starters, it is sparkly AF. I was hoping for a more glowy, less sparkly shimmer but you get a fist full of sparkles with this oil. And they get everywhere.
The day my shimmering dry oil arrived I applied it in the afternoon. Later in the evening my husband & I were cooking together and he had sparkles all over his arms and face. We weren’t even being lovey-dovey or anything like that! The shimmer doesn’t just stay on your body, you introduce it to all of your surroundings. It’s like an envelope full of glitter, once it’s open that glitter is OUT!
And that’s my problem with my first product from Sol Body. It’s one thing if I want to shimmer & glow, but that’s not an invitation to make everyone else shimmer & glow!
Despite this the longevity of the oil is actually pretty good. My arms still shimmer several hours after application. Sometimes they’ll even sparkle after I shower! It’s hard to wash off glitter…
- Smells amazing!
- Weightless application
- Great Value
- Application can be Streaky
- More glittery than glowy
- Transfers all over your clothes, your house, your husband, your cats…. etc.
Have you tried the Sol Body Shimmering Dry Oil or Glow Oil?
For me the cons of this product outweigh the pros. The scent almost makes it worth if for me though, and if ColourPop or Sol body ever start offering this oil is a perfume or body spray I will absolutely pick it up! It was a fun adventure while it lasted.
