Well, well, well. It’s no surprise that it happened again. Four days into my No-Buy the ColourPop Sol & Mar palettes were released and that was the end of that. I had just received my last ColourPop order in the mail one week before, I wish I had waited so that I could have ordered everything all at once! I’ve been going over blog stats and trying to figure out which content performs the best and my ColourPop Palette Reviews are hands down the top performers. I decided to give you guys what you want — More ColourPop reviews! In a week or two I will have my full review up, today let’s talk first impressions of the new ColourPop Sol Palette!
ColourPop SOL Palette
First Impressions
Can you feel the heat? This hot coral 9-pan shadow palette is full of vibrant orange, pink, and copper shades perfect for the warm-tone lover. The sleek compact palette includes a mirror and was made to fit in your carry-on for your next adventure.
The ColourPop Sol Palette retails for $12USD and contains 9 x 1g eyeshadows for a total of 9g of product. ColourPop’s regular 12 pan palettes have 12 x 0.85g shadows for a total of 10.2g of product. The Sol + Mar palettes are actually a better deal as you get your shadow at $1.33/g while the 12 pan palettes work out to $1.57/g. The ColourPop Sol Palette has a mix of matte, satin and metallic finishes with a bright coral colour story. *Note: The ColourPop Sol Palette has shade warnings for the shades Motel, Floaties & OOO. They are not meant for use on the eyes and can cause irritation/staining to the skin.*
Thoughts: Packaging
I’m mentioning this in ALL my ColourPop Palette Reviews coming up, but WTF is up with ColourPop’s new shipping packaging. The plastic wrapping doesn’t cushion the products properly at all and all three of my palettes arrived damaged. My Sol & Mar palettes were luckily easily fixable, I just had to pop a pan back in each of them. My Dream St. Palette on the other hand….
But anyways, of course we have to talk packaging, the ColourPop Sol Palette has very similar packaging to the Kylie Cosmetics 9 pan palettes. Which is no surprise really, as Kylie & ColourPop share a similar manufacturing history. The Sol Palette palette comes in a hard plastic case with a mirror. I LOVE having a mirror and I love even more that this palette isn’t marked up in price to cover the cost of it. I wish I could say that this palette is great for travel but given that an eyeshadow pan popped out and almost shattered in transit I suggest maybe not travelling with these?
Thoughts: Colour Story & Formula
The Two orange matte shades in the ColourPop Sol Palette, New Digs & Dynamite, are quite similar to each other. I would have liked to see a bright yellow in the place of one of them, it would have gone very nicely with the theme of the palette. I’m getting bored having copper shades in every ColourPop palette. The Give It To Me Straight Palette had so many bronzey orange shades as does the Double Entendre Palette, so I’m hoping CP moves away from the bronze soon. The matte neon pink shade OOO is EVERYTHING though! I haven’t felt so elated trying a new palette in such a long time, that shade is gorgeous! The first time I used the SOL Palette I popped it all over my eyelids and it’s giving me life.
I almost always say this in my CP reviews/first impressions, but I detest ColourPop’s Satin eyeshadow formula. I find their Satin shades so hard to work with and they don’t have a lot of colour payoff. The pink shade in the middle, Motel is gorgeous but you need to spend time building it up.
ColourPop Sol Palette Swatches
All of the shades swatched really well on my arm without a primer underneath. These swatches were all done with my finger as opposed to using a brush. The Sol Palette is very pink and orange toned, so don’t expect a crazy amount of variety with your eyeshadow looks. Still, it’s beautiful and the formula is top notch.
Sol Palette Makeup Look
I’ll include 3 Looks with my full review, but in this first impressions post I will leave you with a single makeup look. Despite the shade warnings and the fact that there are satin shades in this palette I do really love it and so far recommend it. Make sure you do a swatch test on your arm before applying the shades Motel, Floaties and OOO to make sure you don’t have any irritation. I will give you the full deal on the ColourPop Sol Palette in a week or two once I have had time to play with it more!

I think so too! It’s such a cute palette β
wow!! I love the colors! It would be perfect for summer. Do you apply those eyeshadows by brushes or fingers?? Which one is better? β€β€

I usually use brushes but for the satin shade Motel (the bright coral in the center of the palette) fingers work best! Thanks for reading! π
That look goes soooo well with your hair! I love it! π»
Author
Thanks Ash! I didn’t even think about that when I used it but you’re right it complements the colour really well π
Iβve been holding off on getting this one and the Mar palette because Iβve got too many palettes in general, but I just donβt think I can wait much longer! Great post as always π

Thank you for reading! This is a gorgeous palette π
These tones go so well with your hair! Nine seems to be a good number for palettes, it’s not too many shades to choose from and be overwhelmed by and there’s still versatility.

Thanks Chanelle! I hope they release more palettes in this style!
I want this palette so badly, but I know I have all of these colors in other palettes. Ugh, but I will buy the Mar palette. π

Ugh I know, I used dream st for the first time today and I was surprised how similar the shades spark and potion are to the shades in the sol palette π But I do think its a good palette!
This is such a pretty palette and I love the look you did!

Re: the packaging – why would you make your shipping boxes LESS sturdy? My ColourPop order should be coming next week – I hope nothing is broken…
The Sol & Mar palettes are super cute! I love how one is orange-y and one is blue. I skipped on them because I knew I wouldn’t use the shades, but they’re really affordable palettes for anyone who wants to play with colours!

Right!? I don’t understand that at all. I hope nothing is broken for you too, make sure you get a refund it something is…
I’m kind of wondering how I’m going to wear the MAR palette in my daily life, it definitely won’t be a monday to friday palette for me lol
But the shades are really unique in that palette so it’s fun to play with at least.
I love the colors of this palette they are so vibrant and I ADORE how you did your make-up! Stunning beauty! <3

They’re really bright, very fun for summer!
Thank you so much! xx
I’ve actually checked out the sol & Mal palette yesterday and was considering purchasing them. I think the sol palette colors kind of remind me of the too faced matte peach palette and for that reason I probably wouldn’t get it, but the mal, definitely piques my interest! Great post and review! Can’t wait for the full run-down π xx

They’re pretty fun to play with! The sol palette isn’t really anything new, and you’re right I didn’t even think about it but you already have some similar shades in the peachy matte palette. I’ve been enjoying playing with it though, the shades are really bright and vibrant!
I haven’t really sat down to play with the Mar palette but hopefully I’ll have time soon. Thanks for reading Melina! xx
I canβt wait for your review of the Mar palette! Itβs sold out right now unfortunately, so i look forward to that:) xx
