The day finally came where I finished not only my Tarte Aquacealer Concealer, but also my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. I’ve been having a hard time convincing myself to shop at Sephora since they raised their prices so I decided to head over to Shoppers Drugmart and pick out a few new base products. I wound up choosing the Covergirl Trublend Undercover Concealer!
I don’t think I’ve used a single covergirl product since starting this blog in 2016. They’re a brand that I used to wear a lot of when I was in high school, but I stopped buying Covergirl products for no particular reason. I guess when you’re assaulted daily by new “high end” releases on Trendmood you forget about drugstore brands sometimes.
For the last half of 2019 I’m trying to change that — I’m focusing more on drugstore brands to make my blog a better destination for affordable makeup reviews. I also picked up one of the Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadows which are absolutely amazing, and the NYX Tinted Skin Veil.
Let’s talk about the Covergirl TruBlend Undercover Concealer.
Covergirl TruBlend Undercover Concealer Review
The Covergirl TruBlend Undercover Concealer retails for $10.99USD (around $14CAD) and comes in 30 different shades. This sounds like an amazing shade range but unfortunately not every store stocks every shade. Ulta only carries TruBlend in 14 shades.
Trublend Undercover Concealer claims to be full coverage and lightweight with a matte finish.
Covergirl Trublend has a large, doe foot applicator. The applicator is a little bit reminiscent of Tarte Shape Tape (which for the record I haven’t personally tried). The giant applicator makes it really easy to apply this concealer under your eyes where you typically need more product, but it’s not very precise for place where you only want a small amount of concealer (ie. around your nose, on blemishes, etc.)
The concealer bottle has a black & white striped lid which I think looks really sleek! It’s not the most luxurious packaging out there but at least Covergirl attempted to make it look stylish.
The formula of this concealer is much lighter than I was expecting. Because I’ve heard that it’s a Shape Tape dupe I was expecting it to be really thick, but the formula is actually as lightweight as it claims.
It has pretty good coverage! I’ve been using Trublend Undercover mainly for concealing dark circles under my eyes and highlighting my nose & chin. It brightens my skin pretty well and makes me look more awake. Luckily my skin is doing really well right now thanks to my Pixi Vitamin C Skintreats so I don’t have a lot of blemishes/imperfections to conceal!
The matte finish is ideal for under the eyes (I find that hydrating concealers look shiny under my eyes which is weird) and as a base for a cut crease.
The concealer blends pretty well too with either a brush or a sponge. I set my under eyes with powder in the summer, and I haven’t noticed much creasing when I do. I’m curious to see if I still need to set it in the Fall & Winter when my skin will be more dry.
*Even in the Summer I use a hydrating eye cream & moisturizer which helps keep my under eye area moisturized. If you don’t hydrate your under-eyes you may find that this concealer is too drying for you.
What’s your favourite drugstore concealer?
