Canada post has been extremely backed up lately. Canadian shipping has been incredibly slow, and things I ordered a month ago still haven’t shown up. My December Glossybox made it to my doorstep on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, so I was happy that at least something I ordered made it! It took me a while to get to reviewing it. I wanted to try most of the products before sharing my thoughts and we were right in the middle of the holiday season.
This is my first time reviewing the Glossybox beauty subscription. I avoided spoilers for Glossybox all month… I wanted to be genuinely surprised when I opened the box!
Much to my surprise the December Glossybox was wrapped like a present. I was expecting an ordinary shipping container but they gave me a physical box inside the shipping box. The products inside were wrapped in pink tissue paper and bundled with a ribbon. Is a box a little excessive? Probably, but I can definitely see myself repurposing it for something else. It would become a little much for annual subscribers though! They could make the subscription less expensive if they gave subscribers an option to opt out of receiving a physical box.
The December Glossybox
The box itself is cute, pink and wintry! I like the outdoor snowy design a lot, even though pink isn’t my favourite colour. The presentation is good, I was a little bit confused by all the coupons that came with it. The first thing I saw was a coupon for a discount on CBD gummies which was weird (it turned out the brand was offering a skincare product in the box), also a hello fresh coupon and a $50 off $100 for buying a watch. Um, not very branded for a beauty subscription but ok?
FYI Glossybox retails for $21USD and contains 4-6 deluxe samples or full sized beauty products.
A deeply hydrating moisturizer with superior plant extracts and a pro-grade peptide complex formulated for dry, reactive, and sensitive skin. This fragrance-free formula is made with an intelligent hydration trio of Squalane, Jojoba + Shea butter for long-lasting deep hydration that won’t clog pores. — Youth to the People
This is a tiny moisturizer but it at least is a brand I’ve never tried before, and the product is suited for my skin type. The Adaptogen Deep Moisturize Cream is meant for dry skin, which is certainly mine this time of year.
I’ve been alternating this sample and my Pixi Milky Lotion with fairly good results so far. Since this pot is so small I can’t say whether or not it will have good effects beyond a week or two of use.
The cleansing purifying scrub with sea salt is ideal as a detox treatment as it cleanses, purifies and restores balance to sensitive or oily scalps. It can also be used as a post-colour treatment to sooth tingling and itching sensations. — Christophe Robin
I haven’t had the opportunity to try Christophe Robin products before now. I’ve seen the brand featured often on blogs I read and instagram. According to the brand this scalp scrub “cleanses, purifies and restores balance to sensitive or oily scalps”.
This scrub is definitely not meant for people with drier hair and scalps. I used it and while it smelled heavenly and the lather was incredible, my hair felt super stripped afterwards. I hopped out of the shower and immediately grabbed a deep conditioning hair mask, which I hadn’t been planning on using but needed dearly after the scalp treatment. A little goes a long way. I scooped out about a tablespoons worth and it was way too much. I could have got by with just a teaspoon!
So many lip glosses out there are sticky, syrupy and blindingly shiny. Since we know our #BabeBosses love to look natural, the GEL COLOR LIP + CHEEK BALM gives you that same glossy look with a formula that is lightweight, hydrating and velvety smooth. This multipurpose beauty product works as both a gorgeous tinted lip balm and a blush gel to give you the best all-over natural color. — Nudestix
Believe it or not this is my first Nudestix product! I feel like just about every beauty blogger has talked about Nudestix at some point and I’m late to the party. Nudestix describes themselves as “the all-natural, easy-to-use makeup brand that’s perfect for getting the ultimate nude glam on-the-go”. This definitely fits my covid beauty style right now, as I talked about in my Most Worn Makeup during the Pandemic post. I’m all about that simple, everyday look with minimal layers of product.
This is a gorgeous colour! I have worn it both on my lips and on my cheeks, and I’m not sure which I love more. The lip pencil has a pretty pearly sheen on the lips, which translates to a healthy dewy looking flush on the cheeks. I don’t really consider it a glossy finish though, it’s more of a satin lipstick!
In terms of sample size this is clearly a deluxe sample, which I don’t mind at all. I actually prefer to own lipsticks in smaller sizes, I rarely finish an entire tube of lipstick! Smaller sizes are more manageable.
I really dislike coffee scrubs… but not for the reasons you are probably thinking. As a scrub they’re great at exfoliating and smell heavenly, but coffee is one of the worst things for your drains! We used to wash our grounds down our sink and kept getting clogged drains until our landlord told us the grounds were probably the culprit. Last year I had a coffee scrub from another subscription and one use was enough to clog our shower drain.
I’ll be gifting this to someone who has a landlord to unclog their drains! As a homeowner I don’t want to mess with them.
K-glo Coconut Bio-Cellulose Eye Mask
This mask from K-Glo reminds me of a ballroom masquerade! This is an eye mask that goes all the way around your eye contour area. It’s kind of like only having the top of a sheet mask from the looks of it. Usually eye masks are little patches that go under your eyes, which I prefer because I can moisturize the whole under eye area. These look like they will miss the parts of my eyes that need some extra tlc. I’ll need to have a pamper evening on a Friday night to try these out now that the holidays are over.
Our CBD-infused Foot Masks are an effective fusion of broad spectrum CBD and powerful active botanicals to target fatigued and dry skin. Fun and easy to use, slip these Foot Masks on and experience the skin-softening benefits of coconut oil and sweet almond oil. Available in refreshing Lavender and cooling Peppermint. — CBDFX
Foot masks are so weird to me! I tried one a few years ago and it was messy and kind of weird walking around with sheet masks on your feet. It could be good for a pamper night though? You guys tell me what you think!
I’m also not really into the CBD in everything trend. There are perfectly good medicinal reasons for having it, but I’m not convinced that it has much of an effect when put in makeup & skincare products. What do I know, I’m not a CBD expert, but I feel like it’s a gimmick in beauty products.
Thoughts on the December Glossybox
Overall I enjoyed the box. I actually got a discount for my first box, so while it regularly retails for $21USD I got it for $16. It worked out to around $23CAD after conversion. I’m happy with the box, but I feel like I would be a little annoyed about the coffee scrub and CBD mask if I had paid full price.
I liked that all the brands were new to me. Even though I didn’t enjoy the Christophe Robin scalp scrub I’m glad I got to try it, and now I know that it’s not something I would buy full sized.
It would have been nice to know going in is that you have to cancel your Glossybox subscription before the 14th of the month if you don’t want to be charged for the next box. I decided to cancel and return to Ipsy after this box arrived on the 24th, but found out I was still going to be charged for January’s box. So I will have one more review for you this month (hopefully, depending on Canada post).
Let me know what you thought of the box this month and if you’ve tried Glossybox!
