After hearing so many great things about the Essence Cosmetics Melted Chrome Eyeshadows I decided to give them a try. I picked up the gold shade, Ironic, at shoppers drug mart for $5.99CAD, which is such a reasonable price! I love that Essence makes quality makeup at a low price and hasn’t marked up their drugstore prices like other brands. To keep their prices low they’ve scrapped their advertising budget, and only seem to share their products through social media.
I’m here for it, and I’m here for the Essence Cosmetics Melted Chrome shadows. This product has supremely impressed me and even though I’m not a girl who usually reaches for singles I’ve been incorporating Ironic into my daily look every day for two weeks.

Essence Cosmetics Melted Chrome Eyeshadow Review
The eyeshadows with an exciting bouncy texture are reminiscent of melted metal and have a strong pigmentation. The eyeshadows are available in a trendy selection of colours – now there’s no limit to your eye make-up! — Essence Cosmetics
The Essence Cosmetics Melted Chrome Eyeshadows retail for $5.99CAD and contain 2g of product. The shadows claim to be highly pigmented with a metallic look and soft, bouncy texture. I don’t know about you, but that sounds a lot like the ColourPop Super Shock Shadows!
Packaging & Shade Selection
Because this is a drugstore product the packaging isn’t really anything to write home about. The shadow comes in a little compact with a clear, flip top lid. The lid reads “Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadow” and the shade is clearly visible through the plastic.
There are six shades of Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadows available. I chose the gold shade because it seemed like something that I could incorporate into a lot of looks. The Rose Gold & Orangey-Red shades look like something I would enjoy as well.
Bouncy Texture
I have to talk about the texture because it’s really unique! When I think bouncy I usually think of the Super Shock Shadows from ColourPop but the texture of these are a little different. They feel more wet, and my brush glides through them much easier than a super shock shadow. I can apply them with my fingers or with a brush, while I feel like the SSS’s have to be applied with my fingers.
I love that I can apply these with multiple different techniques!
Performance
These shadows meet all the product claims. The texture is bouncy, they’re extremely pigmented and the finish is very metallic. I was sooo excited when I saw how foiled this shadow was when I first swatched it!
I’ve been wearing my Ironic Melted Chrome Shadow a number of ways to get a feel for it. For the first three days I really just applied it straight on my lid with no primer or other shadows. It looks so cool all over the lid with just a touch of mascara! You get a really wet looking finish. The gold isn’t overpowering on the eyes, and even though it’s super pigmented I feel like I can still go to work with this shade on my eyes.
Unfortunately it doesn’t last all day without wearing off on some parts of my eye. I started wearing it with a primer underneath which helped the shadow to wear longer & wear off more evenly on my eyes.
Below I placed Ironic in the centre of my eyelids to complete a full eyeshadow look and it looks & wears beautifully over other shadows. I was worried that it would get cakey because of how smooth & foiled the shadow was — I didn’t know if it would combine well with other powders. Thankfully the result was stunning!
Have you tried the Essence Cosmetics Melted Chrome Eyeshadows?
I can’t say enough good things about these shadows! I’m definitely planning on focusing more on Essence products on my blog in the future because they are so underrated as a brand. I also love the Essence Make Me Brow Gel which I’ve recently revisited. How have I forgotten about this amazing brand!?
These Melted Chrome shadows are absolutely amazing, especially for under $10! Why buy makeup at Sephora all the time when there are so many good finds at the drugstore?
Let me know if you’ve tried these! Thanks for reading x
I haven’t really had the chance to try out essence products yet, and I’m so glad to hear that they worked out so well for you! I have heard that they have really amazing mascaras, but never knew anything about their eyeshadows! While I’m not one to get single shadows, this one looks stunning! Great post xxx

I heard that they just released new shades of the Chrome shadows too, I need to look for them! I’ve also heard amazing things about their mascaras, I haven’t tried them myself yet. Thank you so much for reading!
Wow, I can’t believe how pigmented & shiny it is. I’m super into the wet look lately! & I love that it’s easily applied w/ a brush because I hate using my fingers. 😛 The one thing I hate about most drugstore makeup is that it’s not long-lasting but I keep hearing good things about Essence. Looking forward to reading more reviews on their products from you! & as always, the look you created is drop dead gorgeous!

These shadows are so good, I think you’d like them! They’re actually super pigmented and last all day if you use an eyeshadow primer.
Thank you so much! ☺️
I’ve only heard of these once or twice and I actually havent seen them at the store near me, maybe its select stores idk lol but it looks really good@

They’re stunning! They should have them at every store, they’re such nice shadows 🙂
I’ve only tried their mascara which I still have, but I’d definitely consider trying some of their other products. I think they are also cruelty-free…correct??
Author
Yes they are cruelty free! I need to try their mascaras 😊
This is gorgeous! I’m going to have to get one to try! I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about Essence, but haven’t gotten around to trying them yet.

They have such good products! I definitely need to shop from them more 🙂
I’ve heard these were really good, I think through Tati. That color and texture look amazing! And by the way your nail polish in that shot looks amazing as well – it almost matches the shadow exactly!

Thank you! I bought them together so I must have subconsciously coordinated them 😄 The formula is so good!
I’ve gotten so much into single shadows lately that I feel I’m barely reaching for palettes these days. Unless you’re doing a look that’s going to be photographed or you’re going out and want something really dramatic, who really wants to sit there and put like 5 different shadows on?

I do most of the time, I love playing with eyeshadow every day! But sometimes it’s nice to just swipe one shadow on and be done with it. Nobody has an hour every single day to do eyeshadow lol
Definitely not! I like to play every now and then too, but most of the time it’s one or two shades and I’m good!
This shade is beautiful! Essence seems like such a great brand! I recently saw another blogger review this product, I think it was the silver-y shade – and it looked stunning 🙂

I want all the shades now 😆 They’re so pretty! Do you have Essence in NZ?
I’m sure I’ve seen stands of Essence products in NZ but products aren’t as easy to come by as Maybelline or L’Oreal for example.
Author
Too bad you don’t get a full selection! But it’s nice there are stands there at least
I keep meaning to pick these up to try, but I keep getting distracted by all the shiny new stuff! I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about these. They look SUPER pigmented and metallic! Have you tried their mascaras? I also hear good things about those!

Yes you must!! They’re truly amazing, I think you’d love them 🙂 I haven’t tried their mascaras yet, I have so many from back when I was subscribed to Ipsy. Once I finish the ones I have I’m interested in trying them!
