Today’s post is a review of the Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel. I picked this up with the intention of using it as a vacation brow product in my Fall drugstore Beauty haul. I’ve been wearing it for the past few weeks and I finally got my eyebrows shaped so I have worn this gel with unruly brows and now with freshly shaped brows.
Essence Make Me Brow Gel
Essence Makeup is an affordable drugstore makeup brand. Make Me Brow is their Eyebrow gel which retails for $3.99CAD ($2.99US). It comes in three shades, 01 Blondy Brows, 02 Browny Brows, and 03 Soft Browny Brows. I have the shade Soft Browny Brows. Make Me Brow is a well known dupe for Benefit Cosmetics’ Gimme Brow Gel.
As with most Essence products the packaging of the Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel isn’t extravagant. It’s simplistic but I would also call the bottle cute. There isn’t a whole lot going on to make this extra beautiful or anything like that, but for my every day items I don’t expect fussy packaging. This is a brow gel for when you’re in a rush to get ready for school or work and don’t have time to carve out Instagramable brows (who does, really?).
The tube is small but considering the price I think it’s a fair size. The wand has a tiny spoolie brush to comb the product through your brows.
The first thing I noticed about Essence Make Me Brow Gel is that the spoolie is incredibly scratchy. I’ve used several brow gels before and none of them have been this scratchy and uncomfortable! I’m almost scared of my eyebrows scratching off when I use this, even with a light hand.
In hindsight I should have picked up the darkest shade because of my weirdly dark eyebrows, but Soft Browny Brows isn’t a bad match for me. It looks natural when combed through and fills in my sparse areas. It’s good for mornings when I don’t have the time to fill in my eyebrows with a pencil. It also doesn’t feel waxy!
Since I got my eyebrows cleaned up I’ve noticed that I don’t need as much help from my brow products as I used to. When I first picked up Make Me Brow my brows were a bit of a mess and I felt like this product didn’t do a lot to hold unruly hairs in place. Since cleaning them up however I find it suits my purposes. If you have bolder unruly brows I don’t recommend this to lock them down, but if your brows are low maintenance this might be a good option for you.
You know what? Despite the scratchy spoolie I really don’t mind this gel! Taking into consideration how little I paid for it I think it’s a great option for every day use, provided I keep my brows in check instead of letting them grow out for a year between appointments! I need to make sure I use a light hand though.
