FabFitFun Fall Box Review 2019 | The Worst Fall Box Ever??

Hello there! Can you feel it in the air? The breeze is becoming a little bit more crisp. The days are not quite as long as they used to be, and I can feel the dread in my bones: Winter is coming.

Okay, sorry about the GOT reference. And we forgot about Fall! That in between season where it’s not really hot out but it’s not freezing cold either. Pumpkin Spice Latte season is upon us my friends, as are the days of cozy blanket scarves, apple picking and cute booties. I’m going to have to rake leaves for the first time since becoming a homeowner!

To usher in a new season, albeit a month earlier than necessary, the Fall Fabfitfun Box for 2019 is here. I meant to unsubscribe from Fabfitfun after the Summer Box but I procrastinated and now a new box is here. I’m kicking myself for not hitting that unsubscribe button because honestly, this box is the worst Fabfitfun box I have ever opened.

FabFitFun TV is a collection of fitness & lifestyle videos that subscribers can exclusively access through the FabFitFun website. Think workouts, cooking videos, meditation, etc. FFF is constantly updating the videos available to subscribers. Every time I reactivate my subscription there’s something new!

FabFitFunTV does add value to the subscription but it’s not something that would make or break my decision to subscribe. I use Fitness Blender for all my workouts and while I don’t mind trying something new once in a while I wouldn’t ever leave the FB Family.

FabFitFun Fall Box + Megan Trainor

2019 Fall Fabfitfun Review

The Fall 2019 Fabfitfun box is in collaboration with my least favourite public figure, Megan Trainor. I’ve disliked her since All About That Bass came out, specifically because she tries to “promote” body positivity while calling slim women “skinny bitches”.

The lyrics read “I ain’t size two,” followed in the next stanza with “that shit ain’t real”. She also follows “skinny bitches” with “I Know you think you’re fat”.

First of all… Anorexia is a real, serious thing. That line is in such bad taste, it’s appalling to me. Second of all, not every “skinny” or slim woman “thinks [she’s] fat”.

Second of all… Excuse me lady, I’m a size two. Don’t you dare skinny shame my figure to me. I eat healthy, real food and I exercise, which is recommended by physicians around the world, in case she didn’t know that. I’m so tired of being told “you don’t need to work out, you’re so skinny!” Which is rude and frankly misinformed. I don’t work out to be slim, I work out to be healthy.

I have the endurance to walk up 6 flights of stairs without getting red in the face thanks to leading a healthy lifestyle. My husband & I hiked both Colca Canyon and Rainbow Mountain in Peru and we were some of the only Canadians on our tour who were able to complete the hike on foot.

Fall FabFitFun Box 2019

Let’s promote real body positivity

As a side note… Many “skinny” women struggle with trying to gain weight. Not every slim woman is anorexic, which is a very serious disorder and shouldn’t ever be made light of. Let’s stop skinny shaming. And on the flipside let’s not fat shame either. Let’s promote body acceptance and positivity for all body types, and stop throwing shade at women with smaller/petite dress sizes.

Sorry for the rant! I just don’t think that Megan Trainor should be featured on the cover of the FFF magazine since she doesn’t understand healthy can look different on everyone.

FabFitFun Fall Box Amika Ceramic Hair Straightener

Products in the Fall Fabfitfun Box

Let’s get back on track and move onto what we’re here for. The products! I was feeling a little iffy on the customization options this season. Seasonal subscribers can customize three products in their box, while annual subscribers get to customize everything.

Amika Strand Perfect Ceramic Styler

Amika Strand Perfect Ceramic Styler $80USD

I knew that I would be getting an Amika Hair straightener in my box thanks to customization spoilers, and it’s one of the only products that I’m actually happy about. Subscribers could also choose a plaid scarf or an Anthropologie yoga mat.

I really don’t need hair tools since I rarely bother with styling my hair. But I’ve been trying to do more with my hair since going platinum blonde. If I don’t style it my hair will become extra tangled so I’m happy to have a ceramic straightener to try out.

I received a mini hair dryer in the Summer Fabfitfun box so it’s nice to see a straightener in the Fall box. And Amika is a brand that I’ve recently started getting into so I’m glad to have more Anika on my shelves.Twine Cheese Board With Plate

Twine Cheese Board With Plate Fabfitfun

Twine Cheese Board With Plate

This Cheese Plate was my second customization option. I decided to go for a kitchen item instead of a fashion styling piece. Subscribers could choose a Kut from the Kloth Striped Wallet, a Kate Spade Lunch Tote, NassifMD® Detox Pads or this Twine Cheeseboard & plate set. I can’t wait to have a wine & cheese party!

I was disappointed to see upon opening the box that the wood is splintering around the edges. It was clearly not sanded down properly, leaving me with an unfinished product. UGH. I’ll still use it but it should have been better quality…

The Better Skin Co. Better Skin Lava Magic

The Better Skin Co. Better Skin Lava Magic $32USD

A triple threat 3 in 1: Cleanser, Exfoliator, and Mask. Lava Magik works to give the skin a more radiant and youthful appearance. French Lava wrapped in nourishing calendula, grapeseed, cucumber, and chamomile — The Better Skin Co.

I wasn’t really thrilled about the third set of customization options. There was a Vitamin C mix in powder from Osmedix, a set of earrings and this face mask. I didn’t really want any of them. I know myself and I can’t be bothered to mix things into my skin care. My ears aren’t pierced, so the earrings would be useless to me. That left this cleanser-scrub-mask-thing.

It’s supposedly a three in one product. The amount of water you add to it can change how it functions. If you water it down it can be a cleanser or scrub, or you apply it as is for a thick face mask effect. I’m doubtful that was really intentional when the product was created. It sounds like something that was added onto the packaging as an afterthought to make it sound better.

Maybe I’ll enjoy this, but then again, maybe not. I’m just not excited.

Afterspa Hair Towel Wrap FabFitFun Fall Box

Afterspa Hair Towel Wrap $18USD

This hair towel helps reduce the frizz and maintain healthier hair by cutting the time of blow drying and heat exposure which ultimately reduces the risk of split ends and excessive damage. — Afterspa

Okay, this is a product I can get behind. I’ve been wanting to try one of these hair towel wraps for a long time but I never really though it was it enough of a necessity to spend my own money on it. This is an item that I will actually use, so I’m pretty happy it’s in the box.

It’s not really something that makes me think of Fall, but at least it’s useful right? I’ve already used it once and it’s much nicer to wear on my head than a giant towel.

Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks

Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks $25USD

Experience three innovative layers of luxury with Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks! The innovative gold foil technology makes it unique and unlike any other eye masks. The gold foil helps retain heat and prevents evaporation allowing the maximum amount of serum to penetrate the skin. — Wander Beauty

I do love seeing eye masks in my subscriptions so I can’t complain about these eye gel masks from Wander Beauty. I’ve never tried this brand before but I’ve seen it at Sephora. These masks contain hyaluronic acid, aloe leaf extract, and lavender oil to hydrate & condition the skin. I’m planning on popping a few masks in my carry on when I go to Thailand! 23 hours of flying won’t be pretty when I don’t sleep well on planes.

Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair Mask

Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair

98% naturally derived leave-in treatment that instantly visibly repairs and protects from heat styling, reducing breakage by 90% in just 1 week. Detangles and helps protect from breakage and damage due to heat styling. — Aveda

I’m still working my way through the Moroccan Gold hair mask that I got in last winter’s FFF box. I also purchased an anti-brassiness hair mask at Marshall’s last week so I think it will take me a while to go through all my hair masks. If this mask can actually help with repairing damaged hair (aka the bleach damage from my platinum blonde transformation) then I may enjoy this hair treatment leave-in.

It has amazing reviews on the website so this may leave me pleasantly surprised.

Harper & Ari Juice Cleanser Scrub

Harper & Ari  Juice Cleanser Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

Warning: these smell good enough to eat (but please don’t!). Harper + Ari Exfoliating Sugar Cubes are sized perfectly for individual use. One cube will exfoliate and nourish the entire body. — Harper & Ari

The packaging of these little exfoliating cubes is so wasteful! There’s a ton of negative space in the plastic bottle. I think the packaging would have been more ideal as a paper wrapping so no plastic would be wasted.

Packaging aside, these cubes smell absolutely amazing! They smell like green apple and a cube is good for two to three uses. They’re pretty gentle on my skin despite being a scrub. I think I’ll enjoy using these cubes up!

Fabfitfun Fall Box Human + Kind Body Soufflé

Human + Kind Body Soufflé $18USD

Made with Apricot Oil and Shea Butter. Lightly whipped for the Ultimate in Kindness, Human+Kind’s 2-in-1 light and fluffy Body Soufflé is quickly absorbed to leave your skin feeling super moisturized and soft to the touch.  Now in an easy to use Tube! — Human & Kind

I have soooo much body lotion right now omg. Did I need this? No, no I did not. Will it get used? Maaaybe? I still question why this is in the Fall box, especailly since Apricot Oil really makes me think of Summer, not Fall. If there had to be a lotion I would have liked to see a pumpkin scented lotion, or something spicy! Bath & body works has amazing fall scents, it would have been wonderful to have a cozy candle from them or something along those lines.

This may be a good product, but I need to finish my other three open body lotions before opening yet another lotion.

Fabfitfun Fall Box Review

Value & Thoughts

The total value of everything in my box came to $249USD. I paid $49.99 for the box, plus $10 for shipping to Canada. After the exchange rate I paid close to $90CAD, and I despite the value I am really not pleased. I have gone ahead and cancelled my subscription.

IF the Winter spoilers are freaking amazing I will consider coming back. I have genuinely enjoyed my FFF boxes in the past and am willing to let one disappointing experience go, but we’ll see.

My Ideal Fall lifestyle subscription

My Ideal Fall Box

As I’ve said a few times, none of the products in the 2019 Fall Fabfitfun Box feel especially Fall-like to me. I don’t mind a few off-season products but couldn’t there have been at least one thing in every Fall box that was Fall themed?

My perfect Fall lifestyle box would have included an oversized mug with something cute on it, maybe a little tin of fancy hot chocolate, a Fall-themed candle, and a Fall fashion Accessory like a scarf or necklace. Granted, one of the customization options was a blue plaid scarf, but I wanted the scarf and the Amika straightener. It was a hard choice and I wish the scarf had been in every box.

They could also throw in a lipstick or mascara, and a pair of workout leggings or an oversized sweater. They ask for your clothing size in your profile options so I don’t think leggings would have been a stretch. That would have been the perfect box for me, and I could have bought all those things for less than the box cost me…

Did you enjoy the 2019 Fall Fabfitfun Box?

Thank you for reading! I’m sorry to be so negative, as I usually LOVE my FFF subscription. I hope you enjoyed the products in your box if you ordered one. There are several variations of each seasonal box so there’s a chance that your box was better than mine. Thanks for reading lovely, please subscribe if you want to read more beauty & lifestyle box reviews! x

I always love reading your FFF box reviews. I have to agree with you though, this box was extremely disappointing. I do like the straightener, even though I already have one. And the hair towel was cute, but I would have themed this box, day at the spa or pamper yourself or something? Not really Fall themed? Nonetheless, great post ! xxx

I’m so happy to hear that! I wish the box had been more exciting. The hair towel is the thing I’ve used most so far, I’m actually pretty happy to have it. I hope some of these products grow on me more. I just wish there was some Fall-y things in here!
      Thank you for reading! x

I was so disappointed in the fall box, it was my first one and I didn’t get half of what should of come in the box. 😞

        • October 22, 2019 / 11:29 pm

Oh no! Like your products were missing?? You should write their customer service

  2. September 2, 2019 / 11:58 am

It’s funny that you were meh about this box because I saw so many (sponsored?) posts about how awesome this box is and how it’s getting people into the fall mood…I totally agree with you that there is nothing fall-related at all! The stuff included is nice in general, though!

    • September 2, 2019 / 1:22 pm

That’s so strange! The only fall themed product was the scarf that only some people got :S I wish my products had been more Fall related, it feels like a summer box to me.

But yes the products themselves are nice, it just wasn’t what I was expecting!

  3. September 1, 2019 / 2:39 pm

I haaate Meghan Trainor for all the same reasons as you! I don’t get why her lyrics were okay & celebrated… so rude because I am also Size 2… also, sorry you forgot to hit unsubscribe on time– that is the worst!!

Was the Amika straightener a mini like the blow dryer was or is it a full sized one? Can’t believe the cheese plate wasn’t even sanded down properly, ugh. It will be cute at a little party though. 🙂 Kinda cool you can use the mask in 3 different ways but I lol’d how you said it probably wasn’t even intentional 🤣 I’ve always wanted a hair towel but I know my hair wouldn’t even begin to fit, seems way nicer than a big towel (which barely fits my hair either lol). Those sugar scrub cubes are the dang cutest! Sucks about the plastic packaging though– hopefully they will hear your complaints & come up with something better! I LOVE getting body lotion, it’s probably my favorite thing to receive in sub boxes but I agree apricot is more summery, maybe they thought they could get away with it just because the packaging is orange?!

Your ideal box would have been so much better. Mugs are everything to me lol. Thanks for sharing what you got, Cleia, sorry it just wasn’t the best this season!

    • September 2, 2019 / 1:26 pm

That song was soo popular! I hate it, the lyrics are so one sided. I’ve unsubscribed now, I won’t make the same mistake twice!

The straightener was full sized. I’m looking forward to using my cheese plate when I have people over, even if the edges are a little rough.

The cubes are actually really nice! I’ve been using them in the shower and they’re lasting much longer than I expected. These hair towels are so nice too, I wish I had got one years ago. That’s too bad it wouldn’t work for you!

I should just create myself a seasonal lifestyle box once a season! I’d probably spend less money on it haha. Hopefully the winter box spoilers are better. Thanks so much for reading!

      • September 2, 2019 / 7:28 pm

Yeah, I used to hear it on every single radio station. Always hated it & her… lol.

That’s awesome the straightener was full-sized! I need a new one so I guess this box would have been worth it for me just for that. 😛 The cheese plates rough edges will not be noticed! & those cubes are seriously cute, I’d probably buy them if I saw them in-store somewhere. If they made those hair towels for longlong hair, that would be nice lol.

You’re totally right that it would probably cost less to make your own box each season especially if you look at the spoilers beforehand anyways, why not do that?! You deserve it! & I always like looking at FFF spoilers each season, too! Can’t wait to see what they put in their winter box.

<3 Hope you have an awesome week, Cleia!!

        • September 6, 2019 / 2:30 pm

I’m glad I’m not alone in that lol

In the end it wasn’t really an awful box, The straightener is probably my favourite thing in there. It works really well actually, and my hair doesn’t tangle so much throughout the day when I take the time to style it.
I wonder if you can find those hair towels for super long hair, I’d be surprised if no one thought to make them yet!

Yeah I think I’ll just go to Marshalls and make my own Winter box with some candles and giant socks 🙂 Why not right?

You have an awesome week too!

          • September 6, 2019 / 9:45 pm

Same with mine! If I take the time to straighten it, it doesn’t tangle & mat up as much at all. I’ll have to see if they make the towels for super long hair now, but last time I checked, there’s only one size!

Please share what you put in your own little Winter box! I’d love to see it. 😀

          • September 8, 2019 / 12:44 am

You’ve given me such a great blog post idea, I’ll definitely be sharing! x

          • September 8, 2019 / 9:58 pm

            I can’t wait!

  4. August 30, 2019 / 6:40 am

Uhmm…who the fuck is Megan Trainor? I’ve heard her name but eh? Lol. And were you talking about that Nicki Minaj song? Honestly I dont know i dont listen to that kind of music at all haha.
    Anyway…she sounds awful.
That little ceramic flat iron looks super cute love the color. I’ve heard so many great things about their products but usually people either love them or hate them haha
The cheese board also looks cute. I’m not into “wine and cheese” parties. Mainly because I dont drink wine and I’m not really familiar with many cheese though to be fair I’d like to attend ONE party at some point just to experience it lol
I’m not sure about multi tasking skincare products. Sounds iffy but hopefully it works for you.
The wander beauty eye masks are probably some of my favorite ever! They felt really nice and they didn’t slide down my face like others have. I hope you like them.
I do agree that some products lean more towards summer than fall so eh. I hope the winter spoilers are better I would love to try this box at some point and who knows I might be able to since I’m canceling boxycharm lol

    • August 31, 2019 / 8:20 pm

She’s a singer/musician, but I don’t think her music is all that musical 😒 I don’t know any Nicki Minaj songs so no I wasn’t! I only know Megan’s song because they played it at work for weeks on end.

The straightener is super cute! It doesn’t seem to actually get as hot as it says, it claims 450 but I never even see steam coming from it 🤔 It does a pretty good job though!

The extent of my wine & cheese Knowledge is that I like drinking & eating it! I don’t actually know anything about either though 🤣

The wander masks are really nice, I used them once already and they didn’t slip at all!
I’ll probably give them another chance at some point, I just feel let down that nothing felt like fall to me 🍁🍃

      • September 3, 2019 / 9:24 am

Ah perhaps I got the songs mixed up, lol. At this point I dont give a shit about either one, I dont like that kind of music 🤣🤣
Awh well that sucks. But maybe it’s a good thing that it doesnt get as hot? not as much damage. So long as it works right?
Hahaha nice! I need to try a good wine because whatever I’ve tried in the past was not very good to me
Yay! Glad you liked them! I would love to get those masks for myself someday.

        • September 6, 2019 / 2:25 pm

lol! I don’t really listen to pop anymore either. I’m leaning towards classic rock these days which makes me feel kind of old. But it’s what I enjoy so whatever haha
yeah that’s true! I don’t want to fry my hair any more than it already is.
Maybe you guys could go to a wine tasting or something like that! It’s a fun date night at least 🙂

          • September 10, 2019 / 7:43 am

I actually want to go wine tasting at the vineyards around here. Theres so many. I’m pretty sure they have tours as well that would be fun.

          • September 22, 2019 / 6:18 pm

That would be fun, you definitely should! I’m sure they would be so beautiful to visit in the Fall too

  5. August 28, 2019 / 6:11 am

i’m not at all ready for it to be winter 😫 definitely doesn’t feel like a very fall-themed box! leggings would have been a great addition 🙌🏻

    • August 30, 2019 / 8:24 pm

      I can handle fall, but I’m also not ready for winter! I think I just need a break from subscription boxes 😅 Thanks for reading;

  6. August 27, 2019 / 8:47 am

Never paid attention to Meghan Trainor ever and I never cared enough about any of her songs to even listen to the lyrics! But I agree, healthy comes in different forms and it’s never one person’s job to decide what that definition is.

So sorry this box was a disappointment for you! I’m kinda over the whole subscription box thing at the moment; I’ve cancelled all mine. Just too much accumulation of stuff I really don’t need or want and I hate to be so wasteful!

    • August 27, 2019 / 11:30 pm

I had to listen to that song sooo many times because it was playing at work, it was the worst. I just hate this body “positivity” movement and how it goes from one extreme to the next. Can’t we all just get along and not say mean things about each other at all? grrrr!

That’s why I cancelled my Boxycharm! Full sized products each month is a great value but it accumulates so fast. At least FFF is seasonal and not monthly but I still usually only get one or two boxes a year. It might be for the best to just take a break from it for a while. Thanks for reading!

      • August 28, 2019 / 10:53 am

I think people who historically have been ridiculed now feel emboldened because of all this social awareness going on at the moment. So some may lash out for the wrong reasons – ‘I’m going to attack or make fun of the people who always made me feel bad’ etc. It’s understandable to a certain extent, but it doesn’t make it right.

Well, no more boxes for me for a while! I can accumulate enough stuff on my own 😆.

        • August 31, 2019 / 8:10 pm

It’s awful 🙁 I wish people wouldn’t be so rotten to each other regardless of what they’ve been through.

          Amen to that!

  7. Geraldine
    August 26, 2019 / 8:28 pm

I loved that little bit about you in the beginning, it’s so true – not all women have the same problems and some TRY to gain weight to no avail. We struggle with different things! I’ve never thought that way of Meghan trainor but now that you made me analyze those lyrics, I do agree with you! The lotion and that 3 in 1 exfoliator / mask looks nice but yeah they don’t really give any fall vibes .. can see why you were disappointed!

    • August 26, 2019 / 8:49 pm

I’m glad you liked my rant, it was a little off topic but I got so worked up lol
I guess the song just hit a nerve for me. I’ve never met her personally so maybe she is much more body positive in person? But those lyrics make me so mad!
None of these products are actually bad, I just wish the box fit the theme. Because it feels like a random box stuff to me! :S
      Thank you for reading!

  8. August 26, 2019 / 5:59 pm

Amen to your rant on Meghan Trainor. Due to illnesses and side effects from medication I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum. I was far more likely to be told I looked gross when I was on the thinner side of things than when I was heavier.

It’s never okay to body shame and it’s definitely not okay to make assumptions about a persons lifestyle based on their body. Skinny does not always mean starvation and bulimia!

    • August 26, 2019 / 8:46 pm

I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with being told you’re gross either way 🙁 You most certainly are not, and it would be nice if people just minded their own business! You never know what someone is dealing with.

Exactly!! Now people get angry when smaller models are on the runway because it’s not “real”, even though for a lot of women it is! Thank you for sharing, I’m glad someone appreciated my rant!

  9. August 26, 2019 / 9:32 am

Yeah none of these items really scream “fall” to me! I’m like you, I would have loved a fall candle, scarf, maybe like good, warm socks. Great review though, thanks for sharing. I’m glad I didn’t get this box.

    • August 26, 2019 / 12:07 pm

Yes, those are things I think a lot of us associate with Fall. I wish the box had been more thoughtfully created. Oh well!
