Hello there! Can you feel it in the air? The breeze is becoming a little bit more crisp. The days are not quite as long as they used to be, and I can feel the dread in my bones: Winter is coming.
Okay, sorry about the GOT reference. And we forgot about Fall! That in between season where it’s not really hot out but it’s not freezing cold either. Pumpkin Spice Latte season is upon us my friends, as are the days of cozy blanket scarves, apple picking and cute booties. I’m going to have to rake leaves for the first time since becoming a homeowner!
To usher in a new season, albeit a month earlier than necessary, the Fall Fabfitfun Box for 2019 is here. I meant to unsubscribe from Fabfitfun after the Summer Box but I procrastinated and now a new box is here. I’m kicking myself for not hitting that unsubscribe button because honestly, this box is the worst Fabfitfun box I have ever opened.
What: A Women’s Lifestyle Subscription that typically contains a mix of beauty, fashion, lifestyle and fitness items worth anywhere from $150-$250USD (sometimes more!)
Cost: $49.99USD per Box
Shipping: $8USD to Canada, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, & Alaska. FREE for mainland USA
*NOTE: This post contains my Fabfitfun referral link.
FabFitFun TV is a collection of fitness & lifestyle videos that subscribers can exclusively access through the FabFitFun website. Think workouts, cooking videos, meditation, etc. FFF is constantly updating the videos available to subscribers. Every time I reactivate my subscription there’s something new!
FabFitFunTV does add value to the subscription but it’s not something that would make or break my decision to subscribe. I use Fitness Blender for all my workouts and while I don’t mind trying something new once in a while I wouldn’t ever leave the FB Family.
2019 Fall Fabfitfun Review
The Fall 2019 Fabfitfun box is in collaboration with my least favourite public figure, Megan Trainor. I’ve disliked her since All About That Bass came out, specifically because she tries to “promote” body positivity while calling slim women “skinny bitches”.
The lyrics read “I ain’t size two,” followed in the next stanza with “that shit ain’t real”. She also follows “skinny bitches” with “I Know you think you’re fat”.
First of all… Anorexia is a real, serious thing. That line is in such bad taste, it’s appalling to me. Second of all, not every “skinny” or slim woman “thinks [she’s] fat”.
Second of all… Excuse me lady, I’m a size two. Don’t you dare skinny shame my figure to me. I eat healthy, real food and I exercise, which is recommended by physicians around the world, in case she didn’t know that. I’m so tired of being told “you don’t need to work out, you’re so skinny!” Which is rude and frankly misinformed. I don’t work out to be slim, I work out to be healthy.
I have the endurance to walk up 6 flights of stairs without getting red in the face thanks to leading a healthy lifestyle. My husband & I hiked both Colca Canyon and Rainbow Mountain in Peru and we were some of the only Canadians on our tour who were able to complete the hike on foot.
Let’s promote real body positivity
As a side note… Many “skinny” women struggle with trying to gain weight. Not every slim woman is anorexic, which is a very serious disorder and shouldn’t ever be made light of. Let’s stop skinny shaming. And on the flipside let’s not fat shame either. Let’s promote body acceptance and positivity for all body types, and stop throwing shade at women with smaller/petite dress sizes.
Sorry for the rant! I just don’t think that Megan Trainor should be featured on the cover of the FFF magazine since she doesn’t understand healthy can look different on everyone.
Products in the Fall Fabfitfun Box
Let’s get back on track and move onto what we’re here for. The products! I was feeling a little iffy on the customization options this season. Seasonal subscribers can customize three products in their box, while annual subscribers get to customize everything.
I knew that I would be getting an Amika Hair straightener in my box thanks to customization spoilers, and it’s one of the only products that I’m actually happy about. Subscribers could also choose a plaid scarf or an Anthropologie yoga mat.
I really don’t need hair tools since I rarely bother with styling my hair. But I’ve been trying to do more with my hair since going platinum blonde. If I don’t style it my hair will become extra tangled so I’m happy to have a ceramic straightener to try out.
I received a mini hair dryer in the Summer Fabfitfun box so it’s nice to see a straightener in the Fall box. And Amika is a brand that I’ve recently started getting into so I’m glad to have more Anika on my shelves.
Twine Cheese Board With Plate
This Cheese Plate was my second customization option. I decided to go for a kitchen item instead of a fashion styling piece. Subscribers could choose a Kut from the Kloth Striped Wallet, a Kate Spade Lunch Tote, NassifMD® Detox Pads or this Twine Cheeseboard & plate set. I can’t wait to have a wine & cheese party!
I was disappointed to see upon opening the box that the wood is splintering around the edges. It was clearly not sanded down properly, leaving me with an unfinished product. UGH. I’ll still use it but it should have been better quality…
A triple threat 3 in 1: Cleanser, Exfoliator, and Mask. Lava Magik works to give the skin a more radiant and youthful appearance. French Lava wrapped in nourishing calendula, grapeseed, cucumber, and chamomile — The Better Skin Co.
I wasn’t really thrilled about the third set of customization options. There was a Vitamin C mix in powder from Osmedix, a set of earrings and this face mask. I didn’t really want any of them. I know myself and I can’t be bothered to mix things into my skin care. My ears aren’t pierced, so the earrings would be useless to me. That left this cleanser-scrub-mask-thing.
It’s supposedly a three in one product. The amount of water you add to it can change how it functions. If you water it down it can be a cleanser or scrub, or you apply it as is for a thick face mask effect. I’m doubtful that was really intentional when the product was created. It sounds like something that was added onto the packaging as an afterthought to make it sound better.
Maybe I’ll enjoy this, but then again, maybe not. I’m just not excited.
Afterspa Hair Towel Wrap $18USD
This hair towel helps reduce the frizz and maintain healthier hair by cutting the time of blow drying and heat exposure which ultimately reduces the risk of split ends and excessive damage. — Afterspa
Okay, this is a product I can get behind. I’ve been wanting to try one of these hair towel wraps for a long time but I never really though it was it enough of a necessity to spend my own money on it. This is an item that I will actually use, so I’m pretty happy it’s in the box.
It’s not really something that makes me think of Fall, but at least it’s useful right? I’ve already used it once and it’s much nicer to wear on my head than a giant towel.
Experience three innovative layers of luxury with Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks! The innovative gold foil technology makes it unique and unlike any other eye masks. The gold foil helps retain heat and prevents evaporation allowing the maximum amount of serum to penetrate the skin. — Wander Beauty
I do love seeing eye masks in my subscriptions so I can’t complain about these eye gel masks from Wander Beauty. I’ve never tried this brand before but I’ve seen it at Sephora. These masks contain hyaluronic acid, aloe leaf extract, and lavender oil to hydrate & condition the skin. I’m planning on popping a few masks in my carry on when I go to Thailand! 23 hours of flying won’t be pretty when I don’t sleep well on planes.
98% naturally derived leave-in treatment that instantly visibly repairs and protects from heat styling, reducing breakage by 90% in just 1 week. Detangles and helps protect from breakage and damage due to heat styling. — Aveda
I’m still working my way through the Moroccan Gold hair mask that I got in last winter’s FFF box. I also purchased an anti-brassiness hair mask at Marshall’s last week so I think it will take me a while to go through all my hair masks. If this mask can actually help with repairing damaged hair (aka the bleach damage from my platinum blonde transformation) then I may enjoy this hair treatment leave-in.
It has amazing reviews on the website so this may leave me pleasantly surprised.
Warning: these smell good enough to eat (but please don’t!). Harper + Ari Exfoliating Sugar Cubes are sized perfectly for individual use. One cube will exfoliate and nourish the entire body. — Harper & Ari
The packaging of these little exfoliating cubes is so wasteful! There’s a ton of negative space in the plastic bottle. I think the packaging would have been more ideal as a paper wrapping so no plastic would be wasted.
Packaging aside, these cubes smell absolutely amazing! They smell like green apple and a cube is good for two to three uses. They’re pretty gentle on my skin despite being a scrub. I think I’ll enjoy using these cubes up!
Human + Kind Body Soufflé $18USD
Made with Apricot Oil and Shea Butter. Lightly whipped for the Ultimate in Kindness, Human+Kind’s 2-in-1 light and fluffy Body Soufflé is quickly absorbed to leave your skin feeling super moisturized and soft to the touch. Now in an easy to use Tube! — Human & Kind
I have soooo much body lotion right now omg. Did I need this? No, no I did not. Will it get used? Maaaybe? I still question why this is in the Fall box, especailly since Apricot Oil really makes me think of Summer, not Fall. If there had to be a lotion I would have liked to see a pumpkin scented lotion, or something spicy! Bath & body works has amazing fall scents, it would have been wonderful to have a cozy candle from them or something along those lines.
This may be a good product, but I need to finish my other three open body lotions before opening yet another lotion.
Value & Thoughts
The total value of everything in my box came to $249USD. I paid $49.99 for the box, plus $10 for shipping to Canada. After the exchange rate I paid close to $90CAD, and I despite the value I am really not pleased. I have gone ahead and cancelled my subscription.
IF the Winter spoilers are freaking amazing I will consider coming back. I have genuinely enjoyed my FFF boxes in the past and am willing to let one disappointing experience go, but we’ll see.
My Ideal Fall Box
As I’ve said a few times, none of the products in the 2019 Fall Fabfitfun Box feel especially Fall-like to me. I don’t mind a few off-season products but couldn’t there have been at least one thing in every Fall box that was Fall themed?
My perfect Fall lifestyle box would have included an oversized mug with something cute on it, maybe a little tin of fancy hot chocolate, a Fall-themed candle, and a Fall fashion Accessory like a scarf or necklace. Granted, one of the customization options was a blue plaid scarf, but I wanted the scarf and the Amika straightener. It was a hard choice and I wish the scarf had been in every box.
They could also throw in a lipstick or mascara, and a pair of workout leggings or an oversized sweater. They ask for your clothing size in your profile options so I don’t think leggings would have been a stretch. That would have been the perfect box for me, and I could have bought all those things for less than the box cost me…
Did you enjoy the 2019 Fall Fabfitfun Box?
Thank you for reading! I’m sorry to be so negative, as I usually LOVE my FFF subscription. I hope you enjoyed the products in your box if you ordered one. There are several variations of each seasonal box so there’s a chance that your box was better than mine. Thanks for reading lovely, please subscribe if you want to read more beauty & lifestyle box reviews! x
