FabFitFun Summer Box 2020 Review

How is it Summer already? This year has really gone by in a blur. It seems like just yesterday that everything was fine, we were going about our lives in blissful ignorance about what was to come. In early January I was feeling very optimistic, then… March happened. It’s been four months of lockdowns, quarantines, etc. and we’re only now starting to see signs of things returning to a new “normal”, Thankfully the mail system has adjusted for demand, and my Summer Fabfitfun box actually arrived weeks before I expected it! It’s good to find things that bring you joy in times like this.

I’ve been happy spending time in the sun on my deck, or getting a long awaited package in the mail. I haven’t been buying as much makeup this year but I’ve definitely been taking advantage of sales for things like shoes, and clothing. It brightens my day receiving a package in the mail, as silly as that sounds, and so I’ve resumed my Fabfitfun subscription.

FabFitFun TV

Staying Fit with FabFitFunTV

Thankfully I was already in a routine of working out at home before the pandemic happened. I’ve been using Fitness Blender for my free, online workouts for five years, but lately I’ve noticed my progress has been at a standstill. I completely forgot that FabFitFun has a collection of recipes, meditation & workout videos on FabFitFunTV.

I’ve started adding in a few videos a week to my existing schedule and I must say, it’s working! My favourite videos are the Naturally Sassy Ballet style videos. I’m actually going to try her Ballet Blast Online Studio for the month of July, I can’t wait!

I’m also enjoying doing the toning videos from Joie Ruggiero, her exercises are HARD! Talk about doing the same exercise for several minutes each, not just a 45 – 1 min interval. I’ve enjoyed the burn for sure.

FabFitFun Summer 2020

Gabby Douglas FabFitFun Special Olympics

FabFitFun Summer 2020 Unboxing

The Summer box features Gabby Douglas, an American Olympic Gymnast. You can read more about her on her website. She’s very inspiring!

The box is in partnership with special olympics and some of the proceeds from each box goes towards training opportunities, resources for athletes to stay active & healthy, as well as training for health care professionals to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities. I think this is a fantastic partnership, and I’m happy to know my money goes towards supporting this initiative.

Pottery Barn Mason Diffuser in Solstice

Pottery Barn Mason Diffuser in Solstice $59

This diffuser is such a beautiful home accent! I need to get a little shelf in my office to display it on. The oil smells amazing, but unfortunately some of it leaked in transit. The bottle was only about 3/4 full. It’s not a big deal since there’s still lots of product left and it didn’t damage any other items, but I was a little disappointed by the leak.

I reached out to FFF to see if there’s anything they can do about it. I explained that there was only a small amount that leaked, and I was just reporting that there were issues. Their customer service team was awesome and promptly dispatched a completely new diffuser in the mail! It arrived two weeks later, and I’m thrilled πŸ™‚

This Pottery Barn diffuser retails for $59USD, and at that price point it’s not something that I would have purchased for myself. I love receiving lifestyle products like this from Fabfitfun because I feel like I get to try products that I wouldn’t otherwise spend my own money on.

R & Co Television Perfect Hair Shampoo & Conditioner

R & Co Television Perfect Hair Shampoo & Conditioner $64

“Everything you need for the small screen: body, shine, strengthening,
softening, and smoothing.” This duo from R+Co claims to deliver Camera-ready hair.

I got to choose this set from three different product options. I like having a shampoo & conditioner in each bathroom now that we have more than one, so I’m happy to have a backup. I’ve wanted to try R + Co for a while so I’m excited to try these.

Fragrance: DARK WAVES – A warm romantic scent. Cardamom, Pineapple, Tangerine, Lavender, Bamboo, Blonde Woods. – R + Co

Drybar Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangler

Drybar Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangler $19.20

This was another choice item if I remember correctly. I’ve seen Drybar on the shelves at Sephora & Ulta, as well as Marshalls but the products are so expensive that I’ve never splurged. With Fabfitfun I didn’t have to, and I’m very happy to have a detangler to use. Ever since my platinum blonde transformation my hair has been a nightmare of tangles. UGH. This is perfect for me!

After a few uses I’ve realized that this detangler doesn’t work quite as well as the Amika The Wizard Detangling Hair Primer, but it’s not bad. I will use this up, but I probably won’t repurchase.

Silked Satin Pillow Sleeve

Silked Satin Pillow Sleeve $29.50

I usually let my curiosity get the better of me, but this time I didn’t peak at the contents of my box online until it arrived. I wasn’t overly excited for this product, but I have to admit this feels so soft on my face! I’m a stomach sleeper, so this feels nicer on the side of my face than a bamboo or cotton pillowcase.

I’ve heard that silk pillowcases are supposed to be great for your hair & skin. I did some reading and found that silk is supposed to be superior to cotton pillowcases because it doesn’t absorb water, so your hair retains more moisture. Satin is supposed to be good, but not as good as silk. In fact, Satin is a weave, rather than a material so a satin pillowcase can be made out of many things from polyester to cotton.

Regardless, I’m oddly happy with this product even though I was unsure about it when I first unboxed the Summer Fabfitfun box. My only annoyance is that I only have one, so my husband’s pillow doesn’t match! xD

Grace & Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Grace & Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum $25USD

I love hyaluronic acid, not so much the brand Grace & Stella. I was actually approached by a rep from Grace & Stella and was asked to review some of their products on amazon. The caveat was, I wasn’t allowed to disclose that the products were gifted. What the f? I said no of course. Now to be fair, it could have been a rep from an independent marketing agency, I wasn’t entirely sure at the time, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.

I’ll use this, but I’m not planning on reviewing it further on my blog. My favourite Hyaluronic acid product is Neutrogena Hydro Boost, so if you’re looking for a good HA I recommend that line! My second favourite is the Good Molecules HA serum which is cruelty free (reviewed Here)

Winky-Lux Uni-Brow Universal Brow Pencil

Winky-Lux Uni-Brow Universal Brow Pencil $16

Yay Winky Lux! This brand has been on my radar for a long time, and I keep meaning to do a haul from their website but I always talk myself out of spending more money. Even though this is a brow pencil and arguably not the most exciting makeup product I’m glad to have it. I go through a couple brow pencils in a year so I know this will get used.

What’s interesting about this Uni-Brow Pencil is that it’s one of those “Universal” shades that is advertised to work for everyone, regardless of skin tone or hair colour. I’m skeptical, being blonde, but we’ll find out! Let me know if you want a review πŸ™‚

Makeup Drop Hybrid Makeup Applicator

Makeup Drop Hybrid Makeup Applicator $20

Hooray for makeup sponges, I can always use more of these. If I get a sponge through Fabfitfun or Ipsy I’m happy, because makeup sponges aren’t really all that exciting to me to purchase. I’d rather spend my money on a new eyeshadow palette or highlighter!

I’m not the biggest fan of this sponge design, it’s got a silicone applicator edge. I don’t like silicone sponges, they don’t blend well for me so I’ll only be using part of this sponge.

Spongelle Coconut Verbena Hand Cream

Spongelle Coconut Verbena Hand Cream $18

Coconut Verbena smells divine! I’m not going to open it just now, since I have way too many hand creams and lotions open at the moment. This will go in my purse to use after I finish my current L’Occitane hand cream.

Way of Wills Trio

Way of Wills Essential Oil Trio

This Way of Wills Essential Oil Trio is an add on I purchased to go with my box. I received a Way of Will Duo a year ago, which I gave away because the fragrances weren’t technically pet safe and I didn’t have a diffuser at the time. Now that we’ve moved into a house I have a diffuser set up in my office, and the cats don’t go in there so I can use them with the door closed.

These oils smell nice, and I remember liking the fragrance of the essential oils from Way of Wills that I gave away, BUT I noticed when they don’t have a lot of throw when added to a diffuser. My favourite essential oils are from Saje, their blends are incredible! I may have to make some bath bombs out of these, I think the fragrance would work better in that capacity.

2020 Summer Fabfitfun Box Review

Did you get the Fabfitfun Summer Box?

I’m really happy with this box, though I feel like it really needed the essential oils that I added on to round out the product selection. Maybe that’s just me! These products feel summery to me, and I’m happy that I got a good sprinkling of lifestyle products in addition to beauty treats.

If you guys remember my Fall Fabfitfun Review I was very disappointed with the box, just because it didn’t feel very seasonal to me. FYI there were a couple other Summery items I could have chosen instead of the drybar detangler.

The total value of my box was $250.70. If you want to get your own FabfitFun box I would love if you used my referral link here. Thanks for reading!

      • July 14, 2020 / 3:37 am

Anytime! I got that problem too with my monthly box, but I have gotten pretty good at giving stuff away so that I don’t have to force myself to use it all up! πŸ™‚

  5. July 12, 2020 / 3:53 pm

Great box! I’ve wanted to try a silk pillowcase for ages, but I think the whole not matching the other pillow cases thing would bother me too! πŸ˜„

    • July 13, 2020 / 12:36 am

Yeah you’d definitely need two! I might need to go get another haha
      Thanks for reading!
