First Impressions — Rodan + Fields Skincare

Rodan + Fields Mini Facial First ImpressionsHey beauties, welcome back to my blog! In today’s post I wanted to talk about my experiences trying Rodan + Fields skincare for the first time. I was recently approached by Kelleigh Browd, independent consultant for Rodan + Fields, with a collaboration opportunity to try a mini facial and let you guys know what I thought about the products. This is a longer post than usual because I have four separate products to talk about, so let’s dive in!

About Rodan + Fields

Rodan & Fields was founded in 2002 by dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. Both wanted to create a dermatological skincare line backed by clinical studies that delivered positive results. Rodan + Fields was named the #1 Skincare brand in the United States by retail analytics and research firm Euromonitor.

Network Marketing

Many of you know my misgivings with network marketing, and I will be open with you that Rodan + Fields includes network marketing in their business strategy. However, there are a few differences between R + F and other companies I am aware of that operate hand in hand with consultants.

For one, Rodan + Fields doesn’t use the party system. This is where a consultant comes to your home and pitches products to you and a group of friends, then presents you with a catalogue and incentive offers for the host of the party. I find this system high pressure because I feel guilty not buying from a consultant who came all the way to my home!

Second, you don’t have to make a purchase through a consultant. Orders can be placed online directly. For those of you who are like me and don’t like interacting with sales people, you can skip the whole consultant step. And if you aren’t like me and would prefer to meet and order through a consultant who really knows the products, Kelleigh is truly passionate about the brand and building genuine relationships with her clients.

Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion Paste

Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion Paste

Enhancements Microdermabrasion Paste

Massage directly onto your face (avoiding eye area) or body for 30-60 seconds; do not wet skin before use. For gentler exfoliation, use on damp skin and slowly add water to lessen the intensity of the exfoliation. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Use 1-3 times per week in place of a cleanser. Not intended for sensitive skin.

Enhancements Microdermabrasion paste retails at $80USD for a 4.2 oz bottle. This is the equivalent of $19 per oz.

Kelleigh recommended that I use the Enhancements Microdermabrasion Paste in the morning and the cleansing mask and serums in the evening. There was enough product for at least two uses.

According to the back of the packet the paste is sugar and salt based with vitamins E & C. The sugar and salt makes it very gritty so I can see why it’s not recommended for sensitive skin. I was very gentle when massaging it into my skin, using light pressure and keeping it away from my eye area. I recommended trying the paste on damp skin first to minimize the harshness of the scrub!

After one use my skin was soft and I couldn’t feel the dry patches on my cheeks. My skin also felt nourished afterwards, I didn’t have any of that tight dry feeling we all hate after cleansing!

Rodan + Fields Daily Cleansing Mask

Rodan + Fields Daily Cleansing Mask

Step 1: Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask

On Makeup-free skin, wet fingertips and massage a quarter-sized amount onto dry skin, avoiding contact with eyes. Allow product to dry, approximately 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water.

Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask retails at $43 USD for a 4.2 oz bottle. That works out to $10USD per oz.

The Redefine Cleansing Mask is kaolin clay based to help clear out pores. The mask has little granules in it for mild exfoliation. It’s not nearly as harsh as the microdermabrasion scrub! It smells amazing. I can’t place what it is, it’s not fruity or flowery but it reminds me of fresh clean laundry.

Rodan + Fields Daily Cleansing Mask

And I look like a ghost! Aaaaahhh!!

I only needed a small amount to coat my entire face and it dried down quickly. It didn’t feel tight or tingly on my skin, so if you are sensitive to that kind of thing you’re in luck. Afterwards my skin was soft, clean, free of oil and ready for the next step!

Rodan + Fields Night Renewing & Lip Renewing Serum

Step 2: Redefine Night Renewing Serum & Lip Renewing Serum

Redefine Night Serum

After cleansing and toning, twist open blue capsule and apply over entire face (avoiding the eye area) to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and pores for firmer, younger-looking skin.

Redefine Night Serum retails at $91USD for 60 capsules. One capsule is worth $1.52

The Redefine Night Serum contains peptides and retinol to help smooth texture and brighten skin. I’ve been wanting to try a retinol product for preventative anti aging so this is right up my alley.

The first thing I noticed about the night serum is that it smells like… cod liver oil? It wasn’t at all what I was expecting after how wonderful the cleansing mask smelled. Luckily the smell didn’t linger! A little goes a long way, I had enough product in one capsule to coat my entire face and neck. It felt similar in texture to a silicone primer.

Rodan + Fields Night & Lip Renewing Serums

Redefine Lip Renewing Serum

Next, Open the silver capsule and apply onto lips to visibly smooth lip texture and reduce the appearance of lip wrinkles.

Redefine lip serum retails at $56USD for 60 capsules. One capsule is worth $0.93

The Redefine Lip Serum came in a smaller capsule. Honestly the capsule could have been half the size, I had lots of serum left over after applying a generous amount to my lips. I’m one of those people who absolutely needs to have a lip product on at all times, whether it’s lipstick, gloss, or just lip balm.

This serum is enriched with peptides and vitamin E. It was stickier and slower to absorb than the face serum, but it was hydrating so I didn’t mind.

I didn’t expect to see a huge change in my skin overnight. My skin looked the same as it always does the next morning, but I don’t struggle too much with wrinkles at 24. I still had chapped lips the morning after using the lip serum despite how hydrating it felt. My lips have been so dry this Fall, I would love to see how the lip serum would work over a longer period of time as opposed to one night!

Rodan + Fields Mini Facial First Impressions

Final Thoughts

I got one use out of the serums and two out of the microdermabrasion paste & cleansing mask so I’m calling this post a First Impressions instead of a Review. I need to use skincare for a longer period of time to give a definite assessment of the product.

As you probably noticed these products aren’t exactly drugstore affordable. I don’t think I can afford an $80 microdermabrasion paste at this point in my life, and I would feel guilty buying a $91 serum.

really like the cleansing mask though and for me the price is reasonable for the size of the bottle. I’m also very curious about what the lip serum could do for me over time since I have such dry lips, but I’ll have to wait I have a bit of money left over to treat myself!

Have you tried Rodan + Fields? What product did you find the most interesting?

I hope you enjoyed this post and I would love to know if you guys are interested in reading a full Rodan + Fields review as opposed to first impressions!

I haven’t tried anything from this brand. I think the lip serum definitely sounds interesting!

Btw, I think I’m like you and don’t like to deal with sales people. 🙊

This was my first experience with it, it’s grown really quickly so I’m surprised it’s not as well known. It’s so hard to tell if the serum does anything in one night, I might try ot out over a longer period of time.

Haha! Intetacting with sales people is the worst!

It’s definitely on the pricey side, I’d love to try more and see if it changes my skin at all! Thanks for reading Vicky!! xx
