Hey everyone! Nova and I have teamed up once again for a collaboration! Today we’re both bringing you inspiration on how to rock vampy lipstick this Fall. If you aren’t familiar with Nova’s blog you should check it out, she’s so talented with makeup and writes a lot of unique series on her blog from her Wow! or Waste? series to her Beauty Sale Scale.
Fall is one of my favourite seasons for Makeup. I love all the beautiful orange, yellow and brown leaves that we see changing colours and it’s fun incorporating that colour palette into my daily looks. One thing that is very Fall in my mind is vampy lipsticks. Nova & I have each created two makeup looks with a dark vampy lipstick. I’m featuring a look from each of us on my blog today, and she is doing the same on hers featuring two different looks. Here’s her collab post!
Tips for rocking vampy lipstick:
#1: Use a lip liner that closely matches your Vampy lipstick
You can take this with a grain of salt because Nova told me she doesn’t wear a lip liner most of the time. Her lipstick for this collab (and always!) looks amazing so it’s clearly not a necessity. I like to wear one to prevent feathering when I over-line my top lip. I also prefer wearing a drier, waxier lipliner. It grips to the lipstick better and won’t move around like a creamier formula.
#2: Use a lip brush!
I can’t reiterate this enough, a lip brush is so important when working with clumsy applicators. When I wear my ColourPop Mamacita Ultra Matte Lipstick I never use the doe foot applicator, I find it too hard to keep the edges precise. My lips aren’t very full so a lip brush allows me to carve out exactly the lip shape I want and keeps me from going over my lipliner. Sometimes darker lipsticks can stain the lips & skin so keeping your application precise is key!
#3: Clean Up The Edges With Concealer
I use another small brush for this. If the edges of my lipstick aren’t sharp and smooth I go over them with a tiny bit of concealer. It looks cleaner and more polished!
Mamacita: My Vampiest Lipstick Ever!
I love creating different makeup looks for my blog and instagram. I’ve been dying for a good post to feature this ColourPop Ultra Matte lipstick in. It’s a deep burgundy wine that is Vampy AF and I love it! I applied this lipstick lightly so it’s not as deep as it usually appears on me. Mamacita really stains my lips so I’ve been applying it sparingly. Mamacita is part of the ColourPop Iluvsarahii collab. This Ultra Matte liquid lipstick is still available!
For Eyeshadow I wanted to match the burgundy wine tones in my lipstick to my eyes. To do this I used the new MUR X Soph Extra Spice Palette. I posted a first impressions of the Extra Spice Palette on my blog yesterday! Onto Nova’s makeup look…
Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in “An Affair”
For my second look I decided to go all out. On my blog you will see that my first look was all about balancing the overall makeup. If you go heavier on the lip, then go lighter on the eye. That is the viewpoint that most people seem to follow, and I do most of the time too. But makeup artists and makeup enthusiasts seem to be breaking “makeup rules” more than ever these days, and why shouldn’t they? So I decided to join in and go all out in this look.
The vampy lip that I am featuring is the Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in “An Affair”. This formula is so emollient, hydrating and pigmented! If this line wasn’t so boujee, I’d get more! For the eyes I went with a relatively smokey all matte look with the extremely affordable Revolution Beauty X The Emily Edit The Wants Palette. The quality of this palette is really quite amazing. I usually have zero hopes for drugstore palettes, but as you can see in this look, and the Palette Bingo look I created a while ago on my blog, these shadows can really perform!
