Ipsy September 2017 Glam Bag Review

September Ipsy Glam Bag Review 2017Hola beauties! My Ipsy September Glam Bag Finally came in the mail on Monday. The theme this month is Like A Boss and the bag is black faux leather with little spikes, it’s so functional and cute! I will definitely be keeping this one even though an Ipsy makeup bag declutter is needed very soon. I was impatient waiting for my glam bag this month, I saw my spoilers ahead of time and was so excited for it to arrive!

September Ipsy Glam Bag ColourPop Lippe Stix

ColourPop Lippie Sitx in Glam Bag Full Size $5
I may have squealed with delight when I saw ColourPop! This lip crayon is beautiful. Some subscribers weren’t happy with how bright it is, but I really do love it. I wore it to work the first day I received it unashamed of my bright bubblegum pink lips! Are any of you guys excited for the Sephora Colourpop launch on November 1st!?

September Ipsy Glam Bag Hanalei

Hanalei Papaya Enzyme Powder Cleanser 5 packets $7.14
A powder cleanser!? This is new to me, I guess you mix it with water and apply to your face? This is supposed to be good for any skin type and is infused with grapefruit seed oil and papaya enzyme. I was grumpy about this product at first because I originally thought Ipsy only included one packet, but it turns out there’s five. I was much happier with five!

September Ipsy Glam Bag Pixi Blush & Smashbox Primer

Pixi Beauty Blush in Beach Rose Full Size ~ $10
I can’t find individual pixi blushes anywhere! I linked to the Beauty bronzer because it’s the closest thing I could find to this shade of blush that wasn’t in a palette. It didn’t come with a Kabuki brush though so I estimate the value around $10. I was so close to finishing my last pixi blush duo, so this was well timed!

Smashbox Radiance Primer Deluxe Sample $9.75
This was my product request for the month. I’ve been using the pore filling version of Smashbox primer but I was interested in trying some of the other photo finish variations. YouTubers have said that while this primer makes your skin look radiant, the glow disappears beneath foundation. I’m sad to report that this is true.

September Ipsy Glam Bag Sheet Masks

Manefit Lily Whitening + Brightening Sheet Mask  $3

Manefit Mugwort Astingetn + Pore Care Sheet Mask $2

I love that when Ipsy sends sheet masks you always get two. I love trying new sheet masks, but the value wouldn’t be there for me if I only got one. I’m excited to try the lily mask as it claims to minimize puffiness around the eyes and brighten uneven skin tone. The Mugwort mask claims to clear pores and hydrate the skin. Both sound like they’re worth a shot.

September Ipsy Glam Bag Review 2017

September Ipsy Glam BagValue

My glam bag worked out to $36.94. It’s getting rarer and rarer for me to have a high ticket glam bag which is disappointing, but I will use everything in my bag so I’m happy. I’m starting to thinking about switching to a a sub with consistent higher values, especially since US subscribers get way more value out of this sub than Canadian subscribers.

For instance, Ipsy’s website has said that they are working on shipping their Ipsy shopping deals to Canada soon, but it’s been at least a year since I last read that and it hasn’t happened. Instead, they recently began offering cash back rewards to US subscribers for shop purchases that Canadians can’t take advantage of. I’m annoyed when I pay the same amount of USD plus shipping and I don’t get the same treatment. What do you guys think?

What was in your glam bag this month?

Definitely agree!! I also get a bit annoyed that most subscription boxes do not ship out of the US, and I so want to try them out to reivew them and get to know different brands out there. Sometime I even up paying sometimes more then double to have them shipped to my country with special sendon applications which in the end doesn’t make the subs worth it in the end :/

    • September 26, 2017 / 9:30 pm

It’s good to know that others share my frustration as well. I reached out to Ipsy to ask when subscribers outside the US are going to get access to the extra features and the reply was that they are “working on extending Ipsy offers outside the US in the future” which is literally what the FAQ section has said for a year! So frustrating, like why do I pay the same as everyone else and get less out of it!? Grrr.
It’s so unfortunate when a subscription doesn’t ship to your country, or it does but the extra shipping charges are crazy!

Yep! And I’ve tried other subs that ship internationally yet in my opinion they’re not as interesting and worth your money as others such as Ipsy and Boxycharm.. a real shame :/

Really looking forward to a positive response from them haha ☺️☺️

        • September 29, 2017 / 1:41 pm

I hope you can get more subs to ship to you soon, You’d think that these companies would want to have international business and work harder for it 😕

You got a great bag this month! I’m definitely excited for ColourPop to come to Sephora! Hopefully it will remain an affordable brand! I’ve always wanted to do an order but everyone always says Canadians get hit with customs fees!

I wonder how that Smashbox primer would look on no makeup days as a highlight. I might have to test that out because it could possibly add a nice glow to the face without being too out there.

I’m definitely bummed that Canadians don’t get the great stuff the States does. We pay more money, really, and get less. :/ I wish we could take advantage of their deals and whatnot.

I always want to subscribe to Boxycharm when I see people’s unboxings but I know that if I do, I will have way too much makeup going unused lol. I already have enough cluttering up my place!

    • September 23, 2017 / 12:43 am

I hope it will stay affordable too, I read that the price points will remain the same. It might be a weird fit for Sephora since it’s more of a mid range to luxury brand store, but I’m hoping they make it work.

Ooo that’s a good idea, I should try that! My skin has been weird lately so I went a couple days without foundation this week, it would probably be really glowy as a highlight on it’s own!

Right!? It’s so frustrating, I hate paying customs charges and just not getting the same treatment from companies.
I can’t even use up all my makeup now, I would love to do 3 months of boxy charm and then take a break to project pan everything 😅

      • September 23, 2017 / 9:42 pm

Oh that’s good that the price point will remain the same!! I can see it selling out fast and being hard to get a hold of!

I would love to do 3 months of Boxycharm as well but yeah, I can’t even get through the makeup I have now! XD

  3. September 20, 2017 / 9:07 pm

I used to subscribe to Ipsy too and I always loved the little bags that it came in. They still come in such cute bags

    • September 20, 2017 / 9:36 pm

They’re so cute aren’t they!? After a while though I really don’t need a new makeup bag each month lol
      Thanks for reading!

I love love love the lippie stix from colour pop. They have such a nice consistency to them. I don’t know if i’d be able to work with that specific shade, but girl, you do you! I’m glad you like everything you got in that bag. I definitely want to know how the cleanser works for you xxx

    • September 20, 2017 / 9:40 pm

The formula is so comfortable, I want to try all the Colourpop now! I’m glad you like the Lippie Stix too, what’s your favourite shade?
I can see why some people wouldn’t like such a bright pink, but I think it works for me. Now, if it was bright blue or green I would have a problem xD
I think I’m going to take the cleanser packets on vacation next month, I’ll hopefully write an update when I get back!
      Thanks for reading Melina! xx

The shade I have is button, which is a pretty vibrant peach shade!

  5. September 20, 2017 / 10:28 am

Oooh, love that Colourpop Lippie Stix! I refuse to pay for the FX since the Canadian dollar is so bad right now, so I haven’t tried anything from the brand yet, so I’m really stoked that they’re coming to Sephora!

I wonder if the Smashbox primer works better under a sheer coverage foundation. It sounds like it would be really pretty!

I feel like you’re right, maybe it’s time to switch to a new subscription box. When you translate everything to CAD, you’re paying for more than the value of the box, PLUS it doesn’t sound like you’re overly excited about everything you got, you know?

    • September 21, 2017 / 12:35 am

Haha me too, I try not to order too much from the US, I hate getting slapped with that exchange rate and sometimes customs charges! I hope the launch is throughout Canadian Sephora’s so I can try more Colourpop 🙌

Hmm I’ll have to try that. Today I wore it on it’s own with no foundation, just blush and bronzer and I liked the way it looked, but a sheer foundation might also work well!

Yeah, like honestly if I was American and only paying the $10 each month it would be a good deal, but $20 each month for Canadians is pushing it sometimes. I’m thinking about Boxycharm, it’s more expensive but the value is constantly over $100us a month. Or maybe I just need a total break for a while from subscriptions!

Thanks so much for reading and taking the time out of your day to comment! ❤

      • September 21, 2017 / 9:59 am

Oh my goshhhh, I totally forgot about customs charges. That’s the WORST. At least with foreign exchange and shipping, you know up front that you’re paying for it and how much. But then you get all excited to receive your package and BAM, you’re not allowed to get it until you pay $80 in customs. I hope the Colourpop release is throughout Canadian Sephoras too!

Hmm, I just looked at the Boxycharm website – $21 USD for a box that’s consistently valued at over $100 USD seems like a pretty good deal. Even if you end up paying, say, $60 CAD for the box & shipping it would be a better value than Ipsy (although still not as good a deal as for Americans). I’ve never been interested in subscription boxes but looking into Boxycharm has made me want to get a subscription with them, LOL!

        • September 23, 2017 / 12:24 am

Absolutely, it can add up so much! I’m always so disappointed when my mailman asks me to pay up at the door 😭

Plus everything with boxycharm is full sized instead of itty bitty samples, so it’s a much better deal than ipsy. But still, that exchange rate 😞

  6. September 20, 2017 / 9:13 am

I received the same bag, but everyone got things that I would prefer. My profile specifically says no hair care products, yet I always get them!!

    • September 21, 2017 / 12:27 am

Awe, yeah that’s the problem with Ipsy, their match system isn’t always your friend. I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve received mascara or eyeliner, the two things I have way too much of! 😥 I hope your next month is better! ❤
