I’ve been in search of the perfect red lip for a while now. Red is a shade that for me says confidence — It’s bold and gives you that take-on-the-world feeling. Which brings me to Julep’s It’s Whipped Matte Lip Mousse in the shade Past Midnight. I chose it for my December Julep Maven Box because I was curious about the formula and it was rated highly on the website. Liquid lipsticks are my favourite so I wanted to see Julep’s take on it!
Matte Lip Mousse
Packaging & Shade Selection
The bottle is rectangular with a reflective cap. It reminds me of the Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lipstick bottles. The applicator is a squishy hourglass shape. There are currently 14 shades to choose from. If you can’t tell what the true shade is based on the bottle always go by Julep’s lip swatches, they are more accurate and they are swatched on three different skin tones.
Matte Lip Mousse Formula
This has got to be one of the most comfortable lipsticks I own, if not the most comfortable. I forget my lipstick is there, unlike other matte formulas. This is a “mousse” instead of liquid so the formula is very lightweight and creamy. It’s Whipped has a slight smell of something that I can’t place. It’s not a bad smell, but It’s certainly different.
Wear Time & Transfer
Long lasting! This lasted through a Christmas Party with food & drinks so I was impressed! I kept checking the mirror to see if it was smudging or bleeding away from my lips and it stayed on point. I noticed that my glass had a bright red lip print by the end of the night, but I really couldn’t tell looking in the mirror that some of my lipstick had transferred off.
I’m currently taking a bit of a break from Julep but when I’m ready for another I want to pick this up in the shades Amore, Bisou, and Swoon. The maven box is definitely the best deal for this lipstick as it’s $20 (or $16 if you are a maven) for the lipstick alone. The box costs $20-25 depending on your subscription length and comes with 2-4 full sized products!
