June & July Empties + Getting Real About Bra Sizes | 2018

Product Empties & Bra Size TalkHey guys, today’s post is my June & July Empties. I’ve finished quite a bit of makeup, skincare & haircare lately, sometimes I go through periods of finishing nothing and other times it seems like everything is going in the box. One of my empties this month is the Clarins Bust Beauty Extra Lift Gel, which is meant to lift the bust area. I tried it out and went on a rant about finding correct bra sizes in Canada, it’s harder than you might think for girls with a non-standard size.

Makeup Empties

Eyeliner Empties

Marcelle Precision Eyeliner Pen
I really liked this pen, I used it so much that the label completely wore away. If my eyeliner stash ever depletes you can bet that I will be buying another of these. Repurchase? Yes.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner Pen
While I did enjoy using this liner I found it dried up a lot faster than other lines I’ve used. The tip is really fine though and perfect for that sharp wing. Repurchase? We’ll see.

Arbonne & Becca Empties

Arbonne Bronzer
I took to instagram to see if you guys thought that I should keep trying to finish this bronzer. Arbonne isn’t a company that I really respect and the bronzer was getting crumbly. I had hit pan and it was over 4 years old. The response was 100% get rid of it so that’s what I did. I scraped out all the leftover bronzer so I could recycle the packaging.

Becca First Light Primer Mini
I’m so sad that this primer is finished, I loved this! It’s so hydrating and the purple tint gives my skin a bit of added radiance. Repurchase? I have two other primers to go through, but after that I will either repurchase this primer or Becca’s Backlight Primer.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation
I was surprised when I finished this up. I thought it had another week or two left in it but I finished it right after I took all my empties photos for this post (of course right?). I have a full review on Ultra HD Here. Repurchase? Maybe once I’ve finished off a couple other foundations in my stash.

Makeup Declutter

Makeup Declutter

Sephora Sunbleached filter Palette
I’m sad to see this go but it’s time. This palette is about three years old at this point. I bought it in Hawaii at the Sephora in Whaler’s Village and I loved it. It was my first introduction to makeup that wasn’t from the drugstore and for a beginner it was great. My skill level has improved since then though and I’m just not reaching for it anymore. I’ve also hit pan on almost every shade so I consider it well loved. This palette is no longer available.

e.l.f. Cosmetics Eyeshadow Quad
I’m decluttering this for the same reason as the Sephora Palette. I don’t reach for it, I have these shades in better formulas from my non-drugstore palettes so there’s no point in keeping it around. I am keeping a different e.l.f. quad though with a different set of shades.

e.l.f. Cosmetics Matte Lip Colour in Rich Red
I do really like the formula of these lipsticks. For $3 you can’t really go wrong, I have one other shade in this line that I am keeping. I’m decluttering this lipstick purely because the shade doesn’t suit me. I’m never happy with how it looks on me and I have since found my perfect red.

Bra Sizes

Time To Get Real About Bra Sizes

I promise that this isn’t completely random, I have an empty that relates to this topic. I don’t really talk about this on my blog but I find bra sizes to be infuriating in North America. Victoria Secret & Lasenza are the two big lingerie stores near me and neither one has a good bra fitting system as far as I’m concerned. Lasenza especially has a completely messed up bra guide. I measure 28 around my ribcage just under the bust, but lasenza claims that girls with a measurement of 28, 29, & 30 are a 34 inch band. So for me that adds six full inches to my band which offers me literally. Zero. Support.

I spent years feeling uncomfortable in my own skin, tugging at my clothes and wondering why no sports bras (or any bras for that matter) seemed to fit me properly. I could only get a big enough cup size if I went up to a 34 band which gave me next to no support in the band. So imagine me, 16 years old in gym class and ashamed to change in the change room because I had to wear two bras at once to get even close to the right amount of support to play basketball. So finally I stumbled upon Linda The Bra Lady, a New York based Boutique and her correct bra size guide saved my life. I didn’t even know that my real bra size existed up until that point.

Even though VS finally expanded their size range they still have next to nothing for girls with tiny ribcages and large cup sizes. I’m a 30E in UK brands, but for a 30 ribcage at VS the largest cup size you can get is a D. No wonder there are surveys that show that only 1 in 10 women are wearing the correct bra size. Cue the next Empty and why I jumped down the bra size rabbit hole…

Product Empties: Omorovicza & Clarins

Skincare Empties

Clarins Bust Beauty Extra Lift
The point of those last three paragraphs is that because I have a larger chest size (and ridiculously tiny rib cage) I find it really hard to get that lifted look. I was hoping that Clarins Bust Beauty could maybe give me a bit of a boost. Unfortunately this product didn’t do much for me, but reading the reviews on Clarins’ site it sounds like it does help if you’re a C cup or lower. So that’s my rant on bra sizes, let’s move on now!

Omorovicza Balancing Moisturizer
I received this moisturizer in a Look Fantastic box and I was baffled as to why they wound send all subscribers a moisturizer meant for oily skin. It wasn’t hydrating enough for me in the winter, so I waited until spring & summer and paired it with a face oil. As far as moisturizers go it isn’t bad, but it’s expensive as hell. This bottle isn’t even full size and it retails for over $100CAD. It’s not worth it, there are $20 moisturizers at the drugstore that I like better than this one.

L'Occitane & Pharmacology Empties

L’Occitane Milk Concentrate with Almond Milk
This sample came from the 2017 L’Occitane Luxury Beauty Advent Calendar. I only got about three uses out of this mini. It was really hydrating but I wasn’t the biggest fan of the smell. Repurchase? No.

Pharmacopia Verbena Body Lotion
This was a hotel mini. Normally I don’t like hotel products very much but this lotion smells sooo good, is non-greasy and very hydrating. Repurchase? Unfortunately Pharmacopia products are made specifically for hotel chains and are not available for purchase.

The Body Shop Banana Shampoo Empties

Haircare Empties

The Body Shop Banana Shampoo
This shampoo really does smell like bananas! It did a good job of cleaning my hair, but I have so many shampoos and conditioners from last year’s Elle Canada Grand Prix so I will need to finish all that up before I even think about repurchasing this shampoo.

Dove & TresEmme Empties

TresEmmé Sea Salt Spray
This took me soo long to use up, I don’t style my hair very often so I didn’t have much use for it. It’s a nice light hold hairspray and the sea salt smell reminds me of the ocean. Repurchase? No.

Dove Regenerative Nourishment Serum-In-Oil
I had this sample for so long, it took me a really long time to use up. I didn’t really notice a difference my my hair while using it so I won’t be repurchasing.

What did you use up this month?

Thanks for reading! Hopefully you guys enjoyed this post and didn’t mind my rant too much. Let me know what products you finished up this month and remember to like & subscribe <3

I feel you about the bra shopping! I recently got my boobs done and have found VS and La Senza to be completely useless. Their employees are 15 year old girls who know nothing about sizing, and the bras which I used to love when I was a 32B now offer little to no support. I discovered a local lingerie shop which brings in good french brands that last a long time and offer good sizing and support, but man is it more expensive. I also have a smaller rip cage so I totally feel you. Let’s not even get into sizing of swimwear…..I’ve wasted so much money ordering online from ‘affordable’ brands only to pay so much in duties than I can’t return the mis-sized tops. It’s too bad the Omorvicza cream wasn’t good. I’ve always been curious about their Queen of Hungary Mist. xo J

I roll my eyes every time a teenaged girl in one of those stores asks me if I need my bra size measured now. They don’t seem to get it!
That’s awesome you have a store near you that carries your size, I can relate to the expensiveness though! There’s a store in West Ed Mall now called Les Saisons that carries European sizes but it’s sooo much money 🙁 I can at least try them on and then try to find the same style on Amazon!
I always order my swimwear from Figleaves.com in my actual bra size. I get so mad when bikini tops are sized as small medium and large. How can they sum up all bra sizes into those three categories!? Grrr.

I know, I was expecting magic from the price point but I wasn’t wowed. I’ve never heard of that mist, I need to look into that! Thanks for reading! xx

      • August 8, 2018 / 1:41 pm

hahaha yes say NO to teenagers sizing you. Ugh I know the french brands are so pricey. I have a few bras from Chantelle and Prima Donna and find they offer a lot of support!! Ooh I’ll have to check out figleaves 🙂 How is S/M/L supposed to be accurate for chest size?! I could never order from Zaful or any sites like that….xoxo

I’ll have to check out those brands!
Right!? It’s okay for tank tops and shirts, but not for bra sizes.
Me neither! Thanks for reading 🙂

  2. August 2, 2018 / 9:40 pm

Bra shopping is so difficult and finding a bra with the right criteria for yourself is even harder! I got measured a few months ago and the measurement that wasn’t the cup size was bigger than any of the tops I own. I disregarded that measurement and I go by what feels comfortable and supportive and meets my criteria 🙂 great effort on all the empties!

    • August 7, 2018 / 12:09 am

It’s so hard, especially when the same size can be completely different between brands/styles. I don’t trust stores to size me anymore 🙁
And thanks, I always feel like I accomplished something when I finish up a bunch of things!

      • August 7, 2018 / 12:31 am

Yes and all the different cuts are so confusing! I don’t blame you for not trusting stores to size you, you’ll be wearing it and you know how you want it to feel 🙂 I know what you mean about accomplishing something when you finish up a bunch of stuff, also means you can buy more! 😂

  3. August 2, 2018 / 3:10 pm

I so understand your bra issues! I am a 32E in UK size and it took me ages to find that out, because I never thought of myself has having big boobs. I have now found a bra brand that fits perfectly, so I am sticking with it!

Sooo many stores seem to have no idea how to properly size people! It’s such a relief to finally find the proper bra size, now we just need stores to stock our size 😂 I’m glad you could relate to this post, I was worried that people would find it too awkward 😄

      • August 2, 2018 / 3:16 pm

Nope, not awkward! I think a lot of us oddly sized gals can relate! 🙂

  4. August 2, 2018 / 2:25 pm

I saw your video earlier this morning I’m impressed with how many empties you got in just one month.
I would love to try the becca primer, I’m secretly hoping I get a sample in my Sephora box lol.
And I agree with the bra sizes, I’m pretty sure I’m not wearing the right size either because my back constantly hurts!! I’m gonna have to go to different places to get second opinions and get different measurements and see if they are accurate.

    • August 7, 2018 / 12:01 am

I go through products in waves, I will probably have next to no empties for August!
I’m sure they would put a becca primer in a Sephora Play box, it seems like something that would go well in their subscription
Oh no, that’s the worst! It sucks that even between brands and styles the same bra size can fit completely different. There’s no standard 🙁

  5. August 2, 2018 / 11:33 am

Such a great post and girl I feel you on bras! I actually have the opposite problem you do, I have a huge ribcage, but the girls are tiny! Thus finding a bigger band, but a smaller cup size has always been a struggle. I also hate anything that has wire or padding. (I am small and I own it, I do not need a tissue box in my bra!) And I have such a love hate relationship with Victoria Secret s they keep changing their designs, I will find a bra that works and next year it gets discontinued. The struggle is real 🙂 <3

    • August 6, 2018 / 11:58 pm

Why can’t more companies realize that we all come in different sizes and that stocking only the most common sizes is sooo frustrating! I only wear non padded bras too, I hate padding! I don’t need to look even bigger haha
UGH that’s the worst!! My cat chewed one of my favourite bras last week and I went to reorder it only to find the design has been discontinued as well. Now I need to find a new favourite I guess…
Thanks for reading! I’m glad some people could relate to my bra sizing problem

  6. August 2, 2018 / 10:35 am

i’ve heard good things about that becca primer! also lolol ugh so true, bra sizes can be SO annoying!!

I really like it, it’s good for dry skin!
haha right? And every brand is slightly different so you never know what you’re getting =/
