Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today we are taking about some newly launched skincare from JUNOCO. You may have heard of JUNOCO, they are the creators of the lemon drop microfiber sponge that was all over Trendmood and instagram when it launched! I’m currently using that makeup sponge myself so I was pretty excited when the brand reached out about testing some of their skincare products.
They sent over three products to try, the JUNOCO Clean 10 Cleansing Balm, Clarifying Cleansing Powder and their Cleansing Cookie makeup remover pad. While JUNOCO’s makeup sponges are available at Beautylish unfortunately their skincare line is not at this time. Hopefully that will change one day, I always restock my sponges from there! On the bright side you can still shop everything from Juno & Co on their website.
This is the first time I’ve shared products from JUNOCO on my blog so I thought I would include a little bit of info on the brand. JUNOCO is based in Northern California. Their brand mission is to “create superfood, super powered and super clean skincare that helps bring out your own unique glow”. Their products are free of parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, sulfates artificial fragrances, colors or preservatives, silicones mineral oil, phenoxyethanol, and EDTA.
The brand strives to be sustainable and environmentally conscious. Their products do not contain microplastics and the packaging is 100% recyclable.
Vegan & Cruelty Free
JUNOCO does not test on animals. According to their instagram page they are vegan as well as cruelty free!
Clean 10 Cleansing Balm Review
The JUNOCO Clean 10 Cleansing Balm retails for $20USD and contains 3oz of product. This works out to $6.67/oz. The product contains ten ingredients including pearl barley, which cleanses, brightens and hydrates the skin as well as Vitamin E. The balm gets its fragrance from California tangerines. I have to say, this cleansing balm smells amazing! It’s fresh and fruity and makes the cleansing process and experience instead of something I just have to do every night.
For comparison sake the Green Clean Cleansing Balm from Farmacy retails for $34 and contains 3.4oz of product for a value of $10 per oz. The Youth to the People Superberry Cleansing Balm also has a similar value at $10.15/oz. On the less expensive side the Good Molecules Instant Cleansing Balm (which I featured in this post) retails for $15USD and contains 2.5oz for a value of $6 per oz. The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm retails for $10.99 and has a value of $2.2/oz.
The Inkey list balm clearly steals the show in terms of value but the JUNOCO Clean 10 Balm is still very reasonably priced compared to other cleansing balms on the market.
The Clean 10 Cleansing Balm comes in a plastic pot with a inner lid and a spatula to scrape out the product. The container is a darker yellow/tan shade while the balm itself is a lemon yellow. In my opinion it’s better when cleansing balms come in pots instead of tubes. It’s nearly impossible to get all the product out of a tube, and during the winter the product can be difficult to squeeze out depending on the temperature of the room. I’d rather use a spatula to scrape out the amount I need.
I think the Clean 10 balm is now one of my favourite cleansing balms! The Inkey List’s Cleansing balm may be inexpensive but it never completely removes my eye makeup. On my first try with the JUNOCO Clean 10 Cleansing Balm all my makeup came off, even my waterproof mascara. When I rub the balm between my fingers it takes on an oil consistency which melts off all my makeup and leaves my skin feeling super soft. It also doesn’t get in my eyes and make them blurry, which is a phenomenon I notice with the Farmacy cleansing balm despite all it’s hype.
The Clean 10 cleansing balm does it’s job well, AND it smells fantastic in the process. It’s like I’m walking through an orange grove! I haven’t experienced any breakouts since trying it either which is always a concern for me with new skincare. I really like this balm, and I don’t really have any negatives to share with this product which is rare for me!
10/10 I recommend!
Clarifying Cleansing Powder Review
The JUNOCO Clarifying Cleansing Powder retails for $23USD and contains 50g of product. It contains Rice Lees Extract, an antioxidant which hydrates and protects the skin barrier, Hyaluronic Acid which deeply hydrates, and Papaya Enzyme to exfoliate away dead skin cells.
I don’t know of many other popular cleansing powders at this time, so I don’t have much to compare the pricing to except for the Good Molecules Pineapple Exfoliating powder which retails for $16USD for 60g of product.
If you like Cleansing Powders you can read my review of the Good Molecules Exfoliating Powder Here!
The packaging of the JUNOCO Clarifying Cleansing powder is minimal & simplistic. The outer carton is paper and the tube itself is a plain white plastic bottle. The bottle has a small yellow ring around the cap which matches the Clean 10 Cleansing Balm packaging. I love when brands use specific colours in their packaging. It’s really satisfying to look at when you have the products next to each other!
I do actually prefer the Good Molecules packaging over the JUNOCO packaging for this product. The GM exfoliating powder comes in dark amber glass packaging which is easier to recycle than plastic. It also has the benefit of being able to tell how much product is left in the bottle. With the JUNOCO packaging I can’t see how much powder is left so if I wanted to restock I would only be able to guess how much is left by weight.
While a little more work than a traditional cleanser this powdered formula is easy to mix in my hands and apply to my skin. Personally I like to apply the powder to dry hands and then add a few drops of water, but you can also wet your hands first and then add the powder. It comes down to personal preference, both methods work.
The JUNOCO Clarifying Cleansing Powder removes any residue left over from the Clean 10 Cleansing Balm and works well for a double cleanse. I found the formula removed a little bit too much of my natural oils if I used it on its own (I have very dry skin for reference) so if you aren’t using it as part of a double cleanse routine I would only recommend it for normal to oily skin types! It did a good job of leaving my skin feeling super clean, but I usually prefer a more hydrating formula.
In terms of exfoliation I found this product to be very gentle. The powder doesn’t feel harsh on my skin the way a scrub sometimes does. I didn’t experience any redness or tingling from the Papaya Enzymes in the formula.
Fruit enzymes generally aren’t as strong as chemical exfoliants like glycolic and lactic acid so they make a good introduction to the world of chemical exfoliants; However, if you are used to higher concentrations of AHA and BHA you may not see the results you are used to from a gentler exfoliant like this one.
BONUS Cleansing Cookie Quick Take!
I also wanted to share a quick take on the Cleansing Cookie Makeup Removing Pad without making it a whole review. The product is composed of a polyester blend with a cotton microfibre material covering the pad. It’s soft and spongey and can be used with a cleanser or makeup remover. The soft microfibre material removes eye makeup easily without tugging or pulling. It worked really well for me and I will continue to use it. The Cleansing Cookie retails for $11USD which is a lot less than a Makeup Eraser pad, and the product can be used a few times before washing because of its size.
My only qualm with the sponge is that Polyester is not an eco friendly material. Polyester takes a very long time to biodegrade (up to 200 years, or more!) so even if the sponge is machine washable I would like to see JUNOCO make a version of this that uses 100% biodegradable materials. Especially if the brand mission is to create clean and sustainable products, it seems odd to have a polyester sponge in the mix. Or maybe that’s just me? It’s a good product, but it could be better with more sustainable materials!
The JUNOCO Clean 10 Cleansing Balm is absolutely perfect for me! It smells divine and I know I will be restocking when I finish the product. This is one of the first balms I’ve really looked forward to using. I’m a very scent oriented person and the tangerine smell makes removing my makeup an experience for me. I will definitely be picking up a replacement when the balm is empty!
The Clarifying Cleansing Powder will be something I go back to in the Summer when my skin has more oil production going on. With my skin type I have a completely different skincare routine depending on the season and right now my province is cold and dry. I’ll stash the cleansing powder away until Summer when I change up skincare routine!
Thank you so much to the brand for sending these products over for my consideration. As always all thoughts are 100% my own.
Thank YOU for reading!
