Kylie Matte Lip Kit in Dolce K Review

If you’ve been interested in the world of beauty for any length of time you’ve probably heard of the Kylie Lip kits. I’ve seen a lot of Kylie lip kit hauls on instagram and blogs, but I couldn’t convince myself to order one. As luck would have it, I recently won an awesome giveaway from Linda at LindaTalksBeauty, (if you aren’t already following Linda you should check out her blog here) and included in the giveaway prize was a Kylie Matte Lip Kit in Dolce K!

Kylie Matte Lip Kits retail for $29US (special edition lip kit prices may vary). Includes is a 1g pencil lip liner which retails on it’s own for $14 and a 0.11 oz matte liquid lipstick which retails for $17. In buying the lip kit you will save $2 as opposed to ordering both separate. There are 27 shades available for purchase online.

For reference, Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks are 0.22 oz and retail for $20US, and Too Faced Melted Matte Lipsticks are 0.4oz and retail for $21US.

Packaging

Kylie Matte lip kits come in a little box with the Kylie Cosmetics logo on the front. The lip liner lead moves around a bit inside the pencil. It’s really weird, after sharpening once I can literally pull the liner out of the pencil so I have to be careful. If I shake the pencil the lead also slips out. I don’t know if this is common with other Kylie liners, please let me know if you guys have run into this issue!

The Lipstick itself comes in a clear tube with Kylie’s name in handwriting and the dripping lipstick design around the top of the tube. The applicator is a doe foot shape so it’s easy to apply.

Performance

The lip liner applies smoothly and has a bit of that waxy/tacky feeling which helps the lipstick adhere to it. I’ve worn it under lip gloss but it would make a pretty lip colour on it’s own as well.

The lipstick matches the shade of the lip liner perfectly and the lipstick doesn’t bleed at all. It smells like vanilla to me! I suggest looking at the lip swatches on the Kylie Cosmetics website instead of going by the colour of the tube as it swatches slightly different on the lips. The formula is on the dryer side so any dry patches on my lips were emphasized. I make sure I use a lip exfoliator before application now!

In terms of longevity this lip kit is top notch. I wore Dolce K for a solid 8 hours and it lasted the entire day through eating, drinking, and a workout. Black magic I tell you! If I’m eating anything greasy the longevity is compromised, but it wears away evenly without looking patchy. I did notice a bit of transferring on my coffee cup, but because it wears away so evenly it didn’t look like my lipstick had come off.

This photo is also in my MUFE review, but the lipstick and liner are both Dolce K!

Final Thoughts

really like this Kylie Matte Lip Kit! I don’t often have $29US to burn on a lipstick kit (that’s ~$36CAD right now) so I would probably only pick one if I was going to place an order or choose a single lipstick on it’s own. $17 for a lipstick isn’t technically bad if you normally shop for makeup at Sephora as opposed to the drugstore, but when you take into account how expensive it is per oz compared to other leading brands at Sephora Kylie is overpriced.

I’ve only finished a full lipstick twice in my life though so I don’t personally have a problem with the amount of product in the tube. I think for me the price is worth it because I love the shade and the formula, but you’ll need to make that consideration yourself based on budget and what you normally look for in a lip kit.

What do you think of Kylie Cosmetics?

    Love the post!
I also find this really long lasting, her ‘velvet’ lipsticks are not as drying (in my opinion) but are still super long lasting. I have a few of her colours the only issue I have is the international shipping costs- compared to other companies very very slow and expensive to ship to U.K.

I’ll have to try those as well! Oh no, I’ve heard that about Kylie shipping, plus you guys have to pay duties & import fees on top of that 🙁

Yea the delivery is the worst bit! Plus taxes sometimes it’s just not worth it as it can add another £20-£30 on top, depending on what you order 😱

that’s crazy!! Here anything under $20 US used to be exempt but I noticed on my last order they converted my price to Canadian and then were like Oh, it’s over $20 CAD you owe us money! grrr. I wish there was a duty free online store we could order from!

I am a huge fan of Kylie’s lip kits. Like you said, the shades last so long without any issues! I usually wait til her site has a sale before I buy more. I have about 6 of her shades and they all last really well! Great post cleia xx

I’m glad you like them too! Does Kylie have sales often? I always assume that sales are few and far between so I never think to wait for them 😄
      Thanks fir reading Melina!

So cool you got this in Linda’s giveaway! I feel like that colour suits you so well, it was meant to be!!
I’ve never tried anything from Kylie and I don’t think I would try the liquid lipsticks just because I don’t like drying formulas. I would be more inclined to try her eyeshadow palettes or highlighters/blushes!
It just sucks when things aren’t available readily in Canada. Costs so much to ship, and then we worry about customs and we worry about the shades looking different in person. Not worth it for me! lol

Love this! I️ bought her summer line which was 4 lipsticks and I️ love them. They last SO LONG by I️ agree – need a primer or exfoliated beforehand but they are great
