Look Fantastic February 2017 Beauty Box

Look Fantastic February 2017I decided to take a break from Ipsy and try out the February Look Fantastic beauty box. I was under the impression that Look Fantastic charged in the currency based on which country you select, so I thought $19 CAD is better than the $20 CAD I pay for Ipsy. It’s such a tiny difference, but that’s how I justified it.

I set my currency to Canadian, and yes, Look Fantastic said $19. HOWEVER, I was charged $25ish on my credit card. I emailed support and told them that their currency buttons didn’t work, as I and many other bloggers I read were under the impression of it being $19CAD. I got a brief email back from LF telling me that I was charged in USD and that’s what it’s supposed to be for Canadian orders. They said I could submit another ticket if I had more concerns. This was a Do Not Reply email. I was rather annoyed that I couldn’t even reply to the response as I wasn’t happy with it. Why have currency buttons if they are going to charge you in a different currency!? False advertising I tell ya.

Look Fantastic February 2017

Look Fantastic February 2017 Magazine

The Look Fantastic Beauty Box arrived along with the February UK Elle Magazine. The box itself was a gorgeous deep purple with gold lettering. The inside has a little quote printed on the lid! Inside the beauty box was the LF mini magazine detailing the products.

Look Fantastic - The Ordinary

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA $5.80

The Ordinary is made in Canada! I’m always happy to have skincare in my beauty boxes, It’s the one thing I can guarantee I’ll use. This is hydrating on my skin without feeling greasy. I was shocked that this moisturizer costs only $5.80 CAD for a 1 oz full size. I often find the less well known brands I get in beauty boxes to be quite expensive so the price tag on this is surprising for me. I’m not even complaining about the value, I’m thrilled to have an inexpensive Canadian skincare product that I can order again if I like it!

Look Fantastic - This woks & Polaar

This Works Stress Check Breathe In $16.41CAD

This is possibly my favourite product in the whole Look Fantastic Box. It’s a vial of roll-on essential oil infused with eucalyptus and lavender. When you find yourself stressed out you roll the scent onto your wrist and breathe deeply to alleviate stress. I can’t really say it if helps with stress, but I find eucalyptus to be a calming scent.

Polaar Icy Magic Instant Eye Contour Energizer $33.55 CAD

This is on Polaar’s website but the google translator from French to English had a lot of hiccups so it was hard to get the scoop on the product. This product seems to be marketed towards men. I found a lot of men’s skin care sites reviewing it, but the only “beauty” website that had it featured was Look Fantastic. That’s fine, I mean it’s a skincare product and in theory it should work just as well for women as for men. This is the same 10ml size that is sold by Polaar, but the packaging has been downgraded for the sub box. The rollerball claims to eliminate dark circles, puffiness, and stimulate eyelash growth in 15 days.

Look Fantastic February 2017 - Model Co Eye Lites

Please excuse the eye liner on my hand, I was trying to get my liner pen to flow better!

ModelCo Eye Lites $15CAD(?)

I wasn’t excited to see Model Co. It’s not really a brand that I identify with as premium. I’ve only ever seen it in sub boxes, and for whatever reason I just don’t feel excited about it. This eyeshadow is a liquid metallic rose gold. I can’t find it anywhere except for one random ebay seller for 9GBP.

Look Fantastic February 2017 - Myvitamins & Borghese

Catwalk Queen Vitamins 30 Tablets $7CAD

Um. I dunno. I’m skeptical of taking vitamins and supplements from brands I don’t know. The pills themselves look cheap, just clear plastic capsules. Maybe I’m wrong. Someone please tell me if these actually work? I’m not from the UK, so maybe myvitamins is a common supplement brand over there? I don’t like taking health supplements and extra vitamins without doctor approval.

Bourghese Fango Active Mud Mask 0.89 oz $6.15CAD

I have mixed feelings about this. First of all, there is really no resealing this sample. A brand that sells $37-$100 mud masks should darn well be able to make their samples resealable, especially when they contain at least two uses. There are other Fango Mud Masks out there that retail for less, for example the Harvey Prince Fango Mud Mask retails for $27 for 7 oz, where as this Bourghese version retails $37 for the same amount of product. Both suspiciously have very similar packaging!

Look Fantastic February 2017 Beauty Box

Final Thoughts

I will probably use 4/6 items. I’m unsure about the vitamins and the Model Co eye shadow. The value of the box worked out to $83.91 CAD which is great, but I’m having a hard time being excited for this box. I was expecting something more exciting when I saw the theme spoiler, Runway Ready. Maybe it’s just me, but this box seems a little lacking. I’m still miffed about being charged in USD. If Look Fantastic was straight up about that I would be ok with it, but when there’s an option to select your currency saying $CAD, It seems kind of sleazy to me.

What do you think about the February Look Fantastic Box? Am I being too hard on it?

I had to email them about the currency too! I only realized this month because when I signed up, the prices were cheaper. I never realized I was being charged more because the website had changed to the higher prices. I told them that I’ve had CAD chosen and didn’t know it was actually USD and they didn’t really seem to care. :/ Basically just said “yes, that price is in USD” and didn’t mention trying to fix their website glitch. I also got another 3 month sub even though I cancelled in January. They said I would have had to cancel within 14 days of my 2nd box. *sigh*

It looks so bad on them! Like honestly I might have kept my sub if they had been more willing to address the issue, but they really don’t care. Actually I’m sure this breaks some advertising laws somewhere, I just don’t know how to report it. That sucks they wouldn’t let you cancel! Your next three boxes had better be really awesome lol

Ugh I hope so. I’ve liked a lot of the items I’ve got from their boxes but it’s not worth it when customer service isn’t good!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who found the vitamins sketchy! It just seemed out of place in a beauty box, I’m used to getting skincare and makeup so when I saw them I was kind of like.. huh? They smell weird too! Maybe that’s just what vitamins smell like, I don’t know lol
I can understand why they charge in USD, but it’s annoying that they have non-functional currency buttons! I know it’s only $6 in difference, but I want to know up front what I’m paying without surprises.
Thanks for reading! I l enjoyed the other things in the box, I was just a bit underwhelmed. Have a fantastic evening (or day, wherever you are in the world)! 🙂

Since you did the research on the products, I would be a little frustrated too by getting products that seem old and also some really sketchy vitamins. I don’t think you’re being harsh at all! I would also be super upset knowing they charged me more than I expected because when I set it to my currency it said something else. I’m glad you were completely honest about your review of the box! Hope your day turns around love! xxx
