Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Review

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation ReviewHey lovelies, Today’s post is a review of Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation! When I received my September Topbox I was completely surprised to see that Glam Sense (affiliated with Topbox) had qualified me for their Make Up For Ever campaign. They sent me a full size bottle of MUFE Ultra HD foundation to test in the shade Y215. I actually screeched out loud (quietly), I was so shocked and excited! Without further ado, let’s get to the review!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Review

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation retails at $52CAD and comes in 40 different shades. If you have tried to match a foundation to your skin tone that only offers 5-10 shades you know what a pain it is to find a perfect match! Ultra HD is designed to look great on film as well as on camera. It’s marketed as perfect for TV industry pros and those who are frequently in photos.

ULTRA HD foundation feels like a second skin, but still provides medium coverage, and the light-diffusing formula looks natural and makes skin look flawless and feel moisturized. Exclusive 4K Complex guarantees invisible, natural and comfortable makeup. The fluid texture blends in seamlessly and conceals imperfections to unify the skin’s texture. Great for all skin types, and  features a full-range of shades to cover all skin tones” — MUFE

Ultra HD Foundation Packaging

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation comes in a cylindrical clear bottle with a silver chrome ring beneath the black cap. I love that this foundation has a pump! I always knock off a star rating for foundations that don’t have a pump, it’s an absolute must for me. The black cap has the Make Up For Ever logo embossed in it.

The packaging feels expensive to me. There’s a major difference between this packaging and that of the drugstore foundations I’ve tried. If you are paying $52 for a foundation the packaging better be functional and pretty.

This is a liquid foundation. It isn’t runny nor is it thick. MUFE Ultra HD Foundation gives me light coverage with one blended layer, but it’s buildable for more coverage if desired. It blends easily and doesn’t look cakey, even on my dry skin. It’s also fragrance free! Not that fragranced foundation is a thing, but sometimes you get a foundation that smells a little strange.

Before Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

Before Foundation

No Foundation

I can’t pose in a photo for the life of me. Here I have no foundation on, though I have applied lipstick & eye makeup. I have discolouration under my eyes and a few blemishes that aren’t covered.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation - One Layer

One Layer Of MUFE Ultra HD

I applied a light layer of foundation with a brush, and then blended with a sponge. My skin tone looks a bit more even and has a slightly satiny/dewy sheen on the high points of my face.

After Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

Two Layers Of MUFE Ultra HD

I added on another layer of foundation with a sponge to see if I could build up the coverage. You can still see a tiny bit of the blemish in between my eyebrows, but the redness around my nose has been minimized. I also applied under eye concealer. Overall my skin looks pretty good!

After MUFE Ultra HD

After MUFE Ultra HD

I’ve added blush, bronzer & highlight on top to complete my makeup look for the day. I finished off with a few spritzes of Nyx Dewy Setting Spray. I think that the finish is very even, and I like that it retains a slight sheen even before dewy setting spray.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD
Wear Time

This foundation wore a long time for me. I don’t have a good lighting set up at home for evening photos so I couldn’t take an accurate picture of my face after 8 hours, but the look was almost flawless later in the day! It had rubbed off a tiny bit around my forehead and between my eyebrows, but not enough to make much of a difference. Since my skin is on the drier side I don’t have a lot of problems with foundation slipping off my face, so keep that in mind if your skin is on the oilier side.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Blended

One pump blended into my hand. You can’t even tell!

Final Thoughts

I like this foundation a lot. It has a pump, has pretty packaging, 40 different shades to choose from, blends easily, and doesn’t look cakey on my dry skin. $52 is not personally what I would consider “affordable” in a foundation, so I will probably be on the fence when it’s time to repurchase. You can find a great drugstore foundation for under $10 so I don’t believe that it’s absolutely necessary to run out and buy Ultra HD! It does photograph well though and my makeup stays put day to night.

Iā€™m loving the Fenty foundation … also like the stick foundation by Sephora!

This is one of my favorite foundations, even though I don’t think I pay that much for it! I completely agree with all of your opinions. Great post Cleia xxx

It’s so expensive full price! I really do like it though.
I’m glad you like it too, thanks for reading!! šŸ˜Š

This foundation sits so well on your skin! Even with two layers, it doesn’t look like you have anything on. With that being said, you have amazing skin when you’re not wearing makeup!

I agree, $52 is a bit pricey, but I suppose that’s around the regular range for a brand you get at Sephora.

Thank you! šŸ˜Š It evens out my skin tone really well. Luckily my skin isn’t freaking out right now, sometimes its awful! I mostly need it to minimize redness and make me look less tired šŸ˜„
That’s true, $52 is pretty standard at Sephora. One day I will have money forward all the beautiful makeup! šŸ˜ Until then I probably won’t be able to repurchase very often.

I love this! My favourite foundation right now is by Fenty Beauty but I had tested this out a few weeks before and loved it

    • October 5, 2017 / 12:45 am

I haven’t tried that one yet! I’ve read a lot of different opinions on it, it oxidizes right?

  5. October 4, 2017 / 6:24 pm

Great review! I love foundations that still look natural which I think this one does. I realized while I like a full coverage to cover up blemishes and scarring, I can’t stand the cakeyness! Especially when I have to add powder which isn’t a step I can skip having oily skin lol.

I love how this shade is such a good match for you that you can’t even tell where it is on your hand!!

    • October 5, 2017 / 12:44 am

Cakey foundation is the worst! I try to do my makeup in natural light but sometimes I’ll walk into a room with different lighting and realize my foundation looks horrible, I can’t win! I haven’t had that problem with thus foundation though! Oh no, yeah I can understand how adding powder on top can make the cakeyness worse with some foundations.

It blends soooo well, I’ve never had a foundation that matched this well šŸ˜ƒ

      • October 6, 2017 / 8:15 pm

Sometimes I do that with my bronzer… so embarrassing lol. I’ll be like omg I did NOT blend that well enough! But I didn’t notice until I am outside!

  6. October 4, 2017 / 12:20 pm

I have tried a sample of this foundation and for some reason I remember not liking it.. For the life of me though I can’t remember why. I have oily skin, so maybe it didn’t last very well. Glad it worked for you! I just signed up for Topbox at the end of last month so I should be getting my first this month. That is so cool that they did that, and without you signing up for anything!

    • October 5, 2017 / 12:37 am

I’ve heard that from a couple people actually, I’m really curious to hear how it performs well on different skin types! That’s exciting! I love how affordable topbox is, and they work hard to keep subscribers.
If you look up glamsense and join the program they will sometimes send you little email surveys which may or may not qualify you for a product. So I technically did sign up, but I did the mufe survey probably months ago and the foundation randomly showed up with my topbox with no warning šŸ˜…
