Hey beauties! Today’s post is a review of Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation! When I received my September Topbox I was completely surprised to see that Glam Sense (affiliated with Topbox) had qualified me for their Make Up For Ever campaign and sent me a full size bottle of MUFE Ultra HD foundation to test in the shade Y215. I actually screeched out loud (quietly), I was so shocked and excited! Without further ado, let’s get to the review!
*Note: This is post is NOT sponsored. I received this foundation in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
At A Glance
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD retails at $52CAD and comes in 40 different shades. If you have tried to match a foundation to your skin tone that only offers 5-10 shades you know what a pain it is to find a perfect match! Ultra HD is designed to look great on film as well as on camera. It’s marketed as perfect for TV industry pros and those who are frequently in photos.
“ULTRA HD foundation feels like a second skin, but still provides medium coverage, and the light-diffusing formula looks natural and makes skin look flawless and feel moisturized. Exclusive 4K Complex guarantees invisible, natural and comfortable makeup. The fluid texture blends in seamlessly and conceals imperfections to unify the skin’s texture. Great for all skin types, and features a full-range of shades to cover all skin tones” — MUFE
Ultra HD comes in a cylindrical clear bottle with a silver chrome ring beneath the black cap. I love that this foundation has a pump! I always knock off a star rating for foundations that don’t have a pump, it’s an absolute must for me. The black cap has the Make Up For Ever logo impressed in it.
The packaging feels expensive to me. There is a major difference between this packaging and that of the drugstore foundations I’ve tried. If you are paying $52 for a foundation the packaging better be functional and pretty.
This is a liquid foundation. It isn’t runny nor is it thick. MUFE Ultra HD foundation gives me light coverage with one blended layer, but it’s buildable for more coverage if desired. It blends easily and doesn’t look cakey, even on my dry skin. It doesn’t have any fragrance that I have been able to detect. I can’t tell you how it works on oily skin, as that is not my skin type.
I can’t pose in a photo for the life of me. Here I have no foundation on, though I have applied lipstick & eye makeup. I have discolouration under my eyes and a few blemishes that aren’t covered.
One Layer Of Foundation
I applied a light layer of foundation with a brush, and then blended with a sponge. My skin tone looks a bit more even and has a slightly satiny/dewy sheen on the high points of my face.
Two Layers Of Foundation
I added on another layer of foundation with a sponge to see if I could build up the coverage. I can still see a tiny bit of the blemish in between my eyebrows, but the redness around my nose has been minimized. I added under eye concealer.
I’ve added blush, bronzer & highlight on top to complete my makeup look for the day. I finished off with a few spritzes of Nyx Dewy Setting Spray. I think that the finish is very even, and I like that it retains a slight sheen even before dewy setting spray.
This foundation wore a long time for me. I don’t have a good lighting set up at home for evening photos so I couldn’t take an accurate picture of my face after 8 hours, but the look was almost flawless later in the day! It had rubbed off a tiny bit around my forehead and between my eyebrows, but not enough to make much of a difference. Since my skin is on the drier side I don’t have a lot of problems with foundation slipping off my face, so keep that in mind if your skin is on the oilier side.
I like this foundation a lot. It has a pump, has pretty packaging, 40 different shades to choose from, blends easily, and doesn’t look cakey on my dry skin. $52 is not personally what I would consider “affordable” in a foundation, so I will probably be on the fence when it’s time to repurchase. You can find a great drugstore foundation for under $10 so I don’t believe that it’s absolutely necessary to run out and buy Ultra HD! It does photograph well though and my makeup stays put day to night.
