Hey guys! If you haven’t guessed by the title of this post, Makeup For When You’re Sick, I got sick recently. AGAIN. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been sick this year. It’s dreadful. ugh. Anyways, I decided to look at this as an opportunity to show you guys my makeup routine (or lack thereof) for when I’m feeling under the weather.
Why Wear Makeup If You’re Sick?
Maybe you aren’t sick enough to stay home from work, and you still want to feel confident in your appearance at the office. Or maybe you’re stuck at home but you still want to feel cleaned up. For me, when I have a cold I like to look in the mirror and think I look sick but it’s not too bad, as opposed to yeah I look like crap. It’s purely a mental thing. I feel less sorry for myself when I’m still taking the time to take care of my skin and appearance. I don’t wear a full face of makeup when I’m sick, but I sometimes like to minimize the appearance of under eye circles and redness around my nose. Here’s my routine…
Step 1: Conceal, Don’t Feel
Frozen is my go to movie to watch when I’m sick. My husband hates Frozen, but when I take a sick day he puts up with it! I don’t bother with foundation, but I will dab a tiny bit of concealer on under my eyes and around my nose to minimize redness. I currently use the Maybelline Master Camo Color Correcting Kit (reviewed here). Next, I set it with e.l.f. setting power.
Step 2: Neutral Eyes
For my eyes I apply a tiny dab of eyelid primer. I’m currently using Urban Decay Primer Potion. My go to eye palette for sick days is a Revlon Colorstay Eyeshadow Quad. It’s composed of neutral shades for a simple eye look. I set my primer with the lightest shade, then take the shimmery greyish shade and pop it into my crease, and add a tiny bit of the dark brown shade in the outer corners. I blend, then my eye look is done. Absolutely nothing fancy!
I skip eyeliner and mascara as I don’t want to get my sick germs all over my everyday products. It’s a lot harder to sanitize an eyeliner or mascara than it is an eyeshadow palette!
Step 3 + 4: Brows & Lips
I use a Nyx Micro Brow pencil on my brows, lightly filling them in and then combing through with the spoolie. For the same reason that I don’t wear eyeliner or mascara while Ill I don’t wear lipstick. I will apply lip balm though!
Step 5: Clean Your Brushes!!
I have two possible methods I might use to clean my brushes. The first is using baby shampoo, which is best for getting cream products off of your brushes. The second is using a brush spray. If I have a cold I prefer the shampoo method, as it’s more thorough, but a spray is better than nothing. If you’re feeling extra cautious, you can take a little spray bottle filled with alcohol solution and spritz it lightly on your palettes. The alcohol should kill any germs without wrecking the palette.
