My 2019 Project Pan

Hey beauties!  Are you ready for the longest project pan post EVER!? Last month I mentioned to you guys that I was planning on doing a large project pan for all of 2019. In past years I’ve been running small project pans a few times a year but for 2019 I wanted to think big. I will be updating this series quarterly as opposed to monthly. I don’t want you guys to get bored with my content so I want to space things while still devoting some time to shopping my stash. I also wanted to incorporate a “Pan That Palette” series into my 2019 Project Pan. Let me know if you’re doing a project pan this year!

2019 Project Pan | Makeup & Skincare

So What’s a Project Pan?

If you are unfamiliar with the term Project Pan, it’s essentially a commitment to finishing an entire set of beauty products within a specific time frame. It helps to combat the mentality of mass consumerism by encouraging people to “shop their stash” of already purchased products. The “Pan” specifically refers to hitting the shiny metal bottom of powdered makeup products.

I love doing Project Pans on my blog because it reminds me to use up my makeup before it expires and keeps my spending in check. I’m someone who used to have over 10 shower gels because I loved switching up my fragrances every single day. Now that I do project pans I’ve been changing my usage habits to alternate between two or three products as opposed to six or seven.

Products in my 2019 Project Pan

For my 2019 Project Pan I will be working on using up a full range of products including foundations, blushes, bronzers, etc. My goal is to significantly reduce my makeup stash by the midpoint of the year. I still want to leave myself room to buy new releases but I want to be smarter about it this year by spending less money at Sephora and leaning towards drugstore pricing & skincare products. I go through skincare like water but makeup… that’s another story! Speaking of makeup, let’s start with that…

Project Pan ABH Soft Glam

Pan That Palette 2019

As I mentioned I’m planning on running a Pan That Palette series within my 2019 project pan. I usually stick to eyeshadow singles or leave eyeshadow out of my projects entirely, but this year I wanted to consistently work at using up one specific palette.

The eyeshadow palette I want to focus on hitting pan is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette. The Soft Glam palette is one of the most expensive palettes I’ve ever bought and is priced at $59CAD. Luckily I got it slightly cheaper during Last April’s Sephora VIB Sale, but I want to make sure I get my money’s worth by using this palette a lot!

Revolution Beauty Stick Foundation & ColourPop No Filter Foundation

Foundations

I used to be a girl with two foundations in her collection max, but with the evolution of this blog my makeup collection has inevitably grown. I’m not planning on buying any new foundations this year without finishing one first. The first foundation on my project pan list is the Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation. I recently reviewed this foundation on my blog and I mentioned that it’s been a little harder to use in the Winter. I’ll probably finish it in the Spring & Summer, but for now I will work on finishing up my ColourPop No Filter Foundation.

If you remember my review of the ColourPop No Filter Foundation I wasn’t the biggest fan of it, I found that it accentuated dryness and was a shade or two too light for me. I think I can make the shade work in the winter, and if I start using some of my new Fourth Ray Beauty Face Oils before applying I can balance out the dryness. I don’t like to waste makeup so even though it’s not my favourite foundation I’ll be making sure to use it up.

2019 Project Pan Blushes

Blushes

I don’t actually have a crazy amount of blush & bronzer compared to a lot of the beauty enthusiasts I follow on instagram but I have more that I would like to admit. I have two blushes that I would like to specifically work on fully panning this year. The first is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in the shade Paaarty. I should have been working on this blush all 2018 but when I bought the Too Faced Natural Face Palette it was all I reached for from April on. If you follow Polished & Inspired you may remember that it was in her 2018 Project Pan.

The second blush that I want to hit pan on is the elf cosmetics Peachy Keen Baked blush. This is an older blush in my collection, it came from one of the first hauls I ever posted on my blog. It’s still a beautiful shade and I want to use it more this year.

ColourPop Private Party Bronzer & Becca Sunlit Bronzer

Bronzers

I have a few bronzers that I would like to pan in 2019. I’m not including my favourites because I will inevitably reach for those anyways but this year I would really like to focus on a few bronzers that I often overlook. The first bronzer I want to pan this year is the ColourPop Private Party Bronzer. I bought this bronzer back at the start of 2018 when I did my Yes I’m Addicted To ColourPop Haul. It’s not everything I wanted it to be but it’s not bad so into the project it goes.

The Second bronzer I would like to pan is the mini Becca Sunlit Bronzer that I got in my Becca Prime Bronze & Glow Kit. The set was a Sephora points reward back in December. The bronzer is a little bit too dark for me unfortunately but with a light hand I can make it work. I don’t like having a billion minis lying around so I’d like to finish it.

2019 Project Pan Becca Champagne Pop Highlighter & ColourPop Highlighters

Highlighters

I have quite the little highlighter collection going on, especially now that I have two highlighter palettes from ColourPop, the This Is For You and the Dream Sequence palettes. The first highlighter that I would like to hit pan on this year is the Becca Champagne Pop mini from the points reward set the Becca Sunlit Bronzer came in. It’s such a small size so I’m hoping finishing this entire highlighter is doable by the end of the year. I also have to repress it as you can see. Next I would like to finish my mini Becca Moonstone Liquid Highlighter. This was in my last project pan and I didn’t succeed in finishing it so now’s the time.

I would also like to hit pan on one of the pressed powder highlighters in my ColourPop This Is For You Highlighter Palette. These highlights are definitely more subtle so I plan on incorporating these a lot more in my everyday makeup routine.

Liquid Lipsticks

Lipstick

In 2019 I want to finish up some of my lipstick minis. They’re getting old and though I know they haven’t gone bad I’ve been passing up minis for my newer lipsticks. I’ve chosen three lip products that I want to use up entirely this year! The first one is the Ciaté Liquid Velvet Lipstick in the shade Pinup. I really love this lipstick formula, it’s so comfortable and long lasting. I don’t know why I haven’t purchased more…

The second lipstick I’m including in my 2019 Project Pan is my mini Tarte Lip Paint in the shade Birthday Suit. This will hopefully be an easy lipstick to use up, it’s a great everyday wearable nude shade.

Lastly I want to finish up my NYX Lip Lingerie Lipstick in the shade Ruffle Trim. Nobody talks about these lipsticks anymore but they’re really good! Ruffle Trim is a shade that I always take on vacation. It’s a Your Lips But Better shade and it was my first liquid lipstick purchase ever. I won’t be going on vacation in 2019 so I guess it will have to be my Staycation shade!

Skincare in my 2019 Project Pan

I feel like it’s sort of redundant including skincare in my project pan because I don’t really need to force myself to use it up. However, I’ve noticed that I have a ton of minis that have built up from Sephora orders and advent calendars so those need to go asap! I’ve also noticed that my lip balm and hand cream stash has started to overflow. Let’s start with those first…

Proect Pan Bite Beauty Lip Care

Lip Care

I have several lipbalms that I would like to use up. My first choice to finish up is my Hanalei lip treatment. I don’t think it’s actually worth all the hype I hear about it, when i got it in my 2016 December Ipsy Glam bag I had a lot of people tell me how much they loved this lip treatment. I think it’s okay, I use it everyday while I’m applying my makeup but I still think there are better lip balms out there.

Which brings me to the next balm in my project pan, The Bite Beauty Agave lip balm. I’m actually trying to finish up all of the products from my Bite Beauty Agave Kisses Set. It contains a lip scrub, lip balm and lip mask.

2019 Project Pan | Delectable Lemon Hand Cream

2019 Project Pan | Body Butters

Hand & Body Creams

I have too many lotions & hand creams lying around my house. I’ve started strategically placing them where ever I wash my hands or where ever I relax in the evenings. Case and point: I have a bottle of Aveeno Positively Radiant lotion on a table beside the couch. The creams that I’m specifically including in my project pan for this year are the Delectable Lemon hand cream and both of my The Body Shop mini body butters.

Project Pan | Face & Body Oils

Face & Body Oils

I’m not including Moisturizers, cleansers or face masks in my project pan because they’re products that I use up regularly. I felt that I needed a bit of a push to use some facial oils though, so here we are. I’m including a few different oils in my project pan for this year.

The first oil I’m talking about is the Almond body oil from L’Occitane. I’m really not a fan of the almond oil smell so the only way that I’ve been able to use it is in the bath. I picked up on this tip from Tati who suggested using the Tarte Maracuja oil as a bath oil. I’m hoping that I’ll finish my bottle sooner rather than later.

The face oil that I want to use up in 2019 is the Skin Hero Oil from my Fourth Ray Beauty Haul. As I mentioned earlier I’m going to try using face oils before my ColourPop No Filter Foundation to see if it keeps the foundation from accentuating my dryness. The skin hero oil is formulated with Argan, Baobab, and Strawberry Seed Oils to nourish and replenish the skin.

What are you including in your Project Pan this year?

There you have it, a SUPER long list of products that I’m hoping to use up this year. I’m sure there will be more in addition to these, but this is my guideline for 2019. I hope you guys didn’t mind the length of this post, please let me know if you found it too long, too short or just right. Thank you for reading and all your support, let’s talk soon! xx

I didn’t think this post was too long at all, Cleia. You included a great amount of products & went into detail but not way too much. 🙂 I cannot wait to see how you do with this project. It’s going to be super satisfying to see you “Pan That Palette”! I also never liked that Hanalei lip balm either. It burned my lips. 😛

Oh good! It felt like it took me ages to write it lol
I’ll probably share my first update in April.
That sounds horrible! Luckily the Hanalei treatment didn’t burn my lips but it’s definitely not the best…

Looking forward to your update!! 😀

Get it girl! I’m sure you’ll do great! I really am hoping to finish one of my foundations and hit pan on at least one of the eyeshadow palettes I’ve included. Good luck on this project pan and cannot wait to see how you do!

Wow, that’s a massive project pan! I’ve never tried one but I probably should.

It’s pretty daunting isn’t it!? But I figured if I had a full face of makeup in here I’d be able to use up more of my products.
I recommend doing a small project pan if you want to try it so it’s not overwhelming 🙂

I can’t wait to see how much progress you’re able to make on the eyeshadow palette? Do you want to finish up a certain number of shades or just see how you go overall? I have never heard of Ruffle Trim by NYX before (off to Google it shortly). Good luck Cleia! x

I think I just want to see how I do overall! It’s nice to have a goal but I also want freedom to use my other palettes 🙂
I really like the shade Ruffle Trim, I always take it on vacation! Thanks Chanelle! x

You certainly are taking on a lot! But because you have a full-face of makeup selection that should make it easier! Either way, you are going to be getting some good use out of these products, which is the whole point!

Yes I hope so! It’s already making me change my makeup habits, so I’m reaching for these older products more. Even if I don’t hit pan on them I’m glad that I’m reaching for them again.

omg you have so much stuff to get through! I’m working on finishing a few foundation before I buy any more. This includes a maybelline foundation I own, which I’m almost done! Followed by finishing the makeup revolution one, and this other maybelline one my sister gave me! After that, I don’t know what I’m going to use up, but I’m trying to use up my stash! Great post xx

I knooow it’s going to take me forever! But it’s nice to have a goal for the year, and it will help keep my spending in check.
I’m so glad you’ve been using up your stash too! It makes me sad reading declutter posts where products just expired and never got used. Plus Maybelline makes some really nice foundation!

      • February 6, 2019 / 1:12 pm

Yeah, I’m not too upset by them, because they’re both really good! I just want to use them up! It makes me feel good when I finish a product up, aha (except for eyeshadow, I never wanna finish them!)

I love the idea of finishing an eyeshadow but because I mostly buy palettes I would be sad to use up a shade that I reach for all the time!

  9. February 1, 2019 / 9:44 am

What a great idea to incorporate a full face of makeup in your Project Pan! Out of curiosity, how long does it take you to finish a foundation? I only own one foundation at a time and have been using the same one since last April. I was just thinking the other day that I probably needed to buy a new foundation soon, but when I looked, it was still a third full! So frustrating, haha.

Good luck using up those highlighters, they’re SO hard to pan! I use highlighter every day and I feel like all of my highlighters still look pristine…maybe because I own so many of them lol. Hopefully that Becca mini will make it easier. Baked Blushes like that Elf one I also find really hard to pan.

Good luck on your Project Pan, it’ll be fun to see your progress!

Love love love the idea, Cleia!! I’m jumping on the wagon! My empties post was rather empty… I almost didn’t finish anything in 2018 and I’m so ashamed about that! I’ve been buying so much product that I didn’t even got to review! I probably should make a post about products I never got around reviewing… I think it’s scary though to commit to using up make up products. Because it’s indeed easy to use up skincare products, but make up, that’s like a whole other story… This post got me inspired though to make a commitment… I’ll have to think this one through haha! Great post! xoxo sarah

Thanks Sarah!! Project pans are great, It gives me extra motivation to use what I have and not buy anything else.
omg yes using up makeup takes sooo long. But I think it’s even more satisfying when you do use it up, It always makes me sad throwing away things when I didn’t use them enough.
        Good luck project panning! x

        • February 9, 2019 / 2:59 am

Indeed! I wouldn’t dare commit myself to certain products though, as I don’t know how much time it takes to use them up… But I got some minnies from an advent calendar. I’m definitely going to give that some love :p. For make up, it’s usually easy to use up Foundation, concealers and mascara, as I have my favorites. Lipsticks and eyeshadows on the other hand… It somehow always makes me sad when I’ve used them up :p. xoxo Sarah

Oh right! I saw you posted that you got the L’Occitane Advent calendar, I hope you’re enjoying the products! I love minis because I can actually finish them up quickly.
I can totally relate, I never want to finish my favourite eyeshadows!

It can take up to a year for me to finish a foundation, but I’m usually rotating between different ones. I think If I used one exclusively it would take me 6-8 months?
I hate when you’re just so ready to finish a product but it never seems to end!

Highlighters take forever! Especially if they’re full sized and you’re rotating between them. I hope I can at least hit pan on these products this year.

Thank you! And enjoy your freedom from project pans too, you deserve it after using mostly the same products all through 2018!
