My Daytime Skincare Routine

Daytime Skincare Routine - FlatlayIt struck me a few days ago that I post lots of makeup & skincare reviews but I haven’t shared what I use on a daily basis. I rotate out the products that I am using every so often based on what I receive in beauty boxes, but the main categories of skincare I use are the same: Cleanser, Toner, Moisturizer. Today’s post is my Daytime Skincare Routine. You can also check out my Top 10 Winter Skin Savers blog post on how I take care of my skin in the harsh winters of Alberta.

Daytime Skincare Routine - Cleanser & Toner

Step 1: Cleanse

I’ve been using the Julep Green Tea Konjac Sponge a lot lately. It’s so soft and gentle that I can use it daily without irritation. I cleanse my face and neck with Fresh Soy Cleansing Milk (or Fresh Soy Cleanser depending on how I’m feeling) and exfoliate lightly with the sponge.

Step 2: Tone

My toner of choice is the Nivea Gentle toner, partly because it’s designed for sensitive skin and partly because it’s so affordable! This toner doesn’t cause any burning/stinging sensations and removes any dirt & debris that has been missed by my cleanser. Toner is also meant to restore the PH balance of your skin after cleansing.

Daytime Skincare Routine - Moisturizing

Step 3: Serum & SPF Moisturizer

I have so many little skincare minis to use up. I am currently using the Bella Aura Antixoidant Booster as a serum before my moisturizer. The difference between a serum and a moisturizer is the size of the product’s molecules. A serum has smaller molecules which penetrate deeper into your skin than a regular moisturizer (I learned this from a MUA course I’m currently taking). Next, I follow up with the Pur~lisse SPF 30 Daily Moisturizer. It has a bit of an SPF smell but it dissipates quickly. My absolute favourite SPF moisturizer is Aveeno Hydrate & Protect, but when I ran out I figured I should use up my current products before buying anything new.

Step 4: Eye & Lip Care

For my eye area I’ve been using the Clinique Pep Start eye cream. I haven’t noticed a reduction of dark circles or puffiness so I’m not convinced it’s doing anything… I use the Pur~lisse Daily Lip Nourisher with Mango & Shea Butter on my lips before applying my makeup.

Daytime Skincare Routine - Scrub

Miscellaneous: Exfoliate

I use an exfoliating mask or microdermabrasion scrub once every two weeks maximum. One, I am too busy (lazy) to do it more often and two, exfoliating too often can cause damage to your skin. I have the Julep konjac sponge working for me anyways so I don’t really need more frequent exfoliation. My current go to products for exfoliation are the GlamGlow Flash Mud Brightening Treatment, and the Stemulation Microderm Scrub from last Summer’s Fabfitfun box!

I love the Soy facial cleanser. I got trail sizes from Sephora at Christmas and it was amazing.

It’s a great cleanser! I wish the full size wasn’t so expensive, I would buy it all the time if it was. Thanks for reading!

That’s such an interesting fact about the difference between serum and moisturizer. Thanks for including that!

I really need to try a Konjac sponge! Do you put the cleanser on the sponge or on your face first?

I didn’t notice much of a difference using the Clinique pep start either! Usually brightening eye creams work for me but not that one.

I wish that GlamGlow wasn’t so expensive. I have a bunch of minis of it and it’s amazing, and smells great, too. But I don’t think I could bring myself to buy a full size!!

I thought it was interesting too, i don’t know if it’s necessarily true for every serum but that’s what the course said! I usually put the cleanser on my face first and then use the sponge. If you want to try the julep sponge the add on price for the monthly box is really good, approximately $7. I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t notice a difference with the eye cream!
And Right!? Glam glow is crazy expensive, even for the travel size 😢

Thanks for the tip on the sponge! I’ll have to order one!
