My Most Worn Makeup during the Pandemic

Hey everyone! Usually in December I wrap up my favourite makeup of the year in a “best of” post.. But this year it’s feeling like a round up of my most worn makeup during the pandemic of 2020.

I fell out of love with beauty products in 2020.

I’m sure that most of you can actually relate, with the stay at home orders and mask mandates I’m sure beauty has been the last thing on a lot of our minds. I’ve gone through weeks where I couldn’t be bothered to change out of my sweatpants, let alone put on a full face of makeup. And on the other hand, there are times I wanted to go all out to go to the grocery store just to make things feel more normal. I’m not even planning on doing holiday makeup for Christmas, since our Premier finally announced restrictions after months of inaction, and we aren’t allowed indoor or outdoor gatherings over the holidays now.

I’m still looking forward to Christmas since I have the day off. It will be me, my husband and the cats. We’re going to drink hot buttered rum and peppermint martinis and it should be ok.

Anyways, I’ve settled into a neutral/natural makeup routine for when I’m going to work or lazing around the house that I follow about 50% of the time. I haven’t bought many new beauty products this year, with the exception of some skincare and a lipstick set that came out for the holidays. I don’t even really know what’s been coming out, I’m just shopping my stash. Here’s what I’ve been loving…

Most Worn Makeup During the Pandemic

To be honest I don’t really wear foundation anymore. My acne was getting unbearable with the combination of foundation and mask wearing, so now that I’ve cut out the foundation my complexion has improved a lot. I still have some breakouts but overall my skin is clearer.

Something I definitely put on in the morning when I’m going to work is concealer. I don’t need eyeliner and lipstick, but I definitely need some concealer. This year has left me feeling drained. No matter how much I sleep I’m physically and mentally exhausted. I need that concealer! Right now I’m using Tarte Shape Tape, I got a mini in my November Ipsy Bag and it does the job pretty well,

Too Faced Sweetie Pie Bronzer

Too Faced Sweetie Pie Bronzer

I have been obsessed with this bronzer since it came out! I stalked my local Marshalls until I finally found one there for $12 (pre-pandemic), it was such a steal. This is a multitasking powder that is considered a Bronzer, but I use it as a three in one blush, bronzer and highlight. It has a really gorgeous sheen that looks very natural, and has simplified my routine a lot. If I’m having a rare moment when I want to feel more glam I will layer on this next product…

fra Covenant Garden Highlighter

Ofra Covenant Garden Highlighter

This was an Ipsy bag discovery from June of this year. I’ve really enjoyed my Ipsy subscriptions this year. I’m not shopping in stores as much anymore, so once in a while I’ll get an Ipsy glam bag delivered just so I can try some new products. This beautiful Ofra Highlighter was my favourite subscription box discovery of 2020. It’s an icy pink highlighter that is different from anything else in my makeup bag that makes me feel so pretty! Sometimes it’s just nice to wear some makeup that you feel good in.

Too Faced Christmas Snuggles & Melted Kisses Lip Set

Too Faced Holiday Lipsticks

These lipsticks from the Christmas Snuggles and Holiday Kisses set were my one holiday purchase for 2020. This is the first year that I’m not going to make VIB status at Sephora. I’m $85 away from renewing and I just don’t want anything right now! I think I’ll take my chances as a Beauty Insider next year, I have too much makeup now.

I really love the Melted Matte lipsticks from Too Faced. If I’m wearing a mask I don’t want my lipstick to transfer all over, otherwise the mask gets gross very quickly. These thankfully stay on my lips all morning and afternoon.

Too Faced Christmas Snuggles Lipstick Set

Here are the shades, I think they are so beautiful! Sugar Cookie, the pink nude is a repeat from the 2019 TF Holiday Set, so I have a duplicate now. They definitely could have included a different shade, but I loved the other colours enough to get it anyways. Hot Toddy and Caramel Apple are my favourites! I love mauve and brownish nude colours so these are perfect for me.

Pixi Beauty Natural Beauty Eye Effects Palette

Pixi Beauty Eye Reflections Palette in Natural Beauty

Do you remember back when I reviewed the Pixi Beauty Eye Reflections Palettes? It feels like a world away! We hadn’t taken possession of our house yet and we had no idea what was coming for us in 2020 xD

I remember I didn’t love the palettes. The shimmers are beautiful of course, but the colours didn’t wow me. However, this year I’ve had a complete change of heart. These shades are perfect for my 2020 everyday, lazy girl attitude. The shades look good no matter how I wear them, and they’re super easy to apply and put together an eye look. I reach for the natural beauty palette a ton these days!

Dominique Cosmetics Latte Palette

This palette is usually my second choice for eyeshadow looks. I love the shimmers in this palette, and the matte formula blends like a dream. I love the DC Latte palette as much as I did when I reviewed it last Fall.

Sometimes wearing my best makeup products makes me feel slightly better about everything. Is it just me?

What does your Pandemic Makeup Routine look like?

I’m so over the pandemic. Can we just fast forward? Time machine to bring me to 2023 where maybe things have settled down.. There are several vaccines about to start distribution, so I am hopeful that maybe next Christmas we can celebrate with our families. I hope you are staying safe, staying sane and staying healthy Thank you for reading! x

I’ve more or less done mostly natural make up looks but I am definitely seeing the trend this year for it! I’m currently in the state of finishing up my IT Cosmetics CC Cream (which actually, is the heaviest I’ll go with base).

I finally dug my hands into Fenty beauty during Christmas so I guess that’s been my staple/treat going into 2021!

I love that cc cream! I haven’t had it in a long time. Lately I’ve started using a powdered foundation under my mask. It helps me with breakouts because it seems to absorb the moisture from inside my mask πŸ˜…

Oh you’ll have to let me know if you like the products! I’ve only tried one or two things from Fenty so far.

Thanks for reading, hope you are doing well!

I’m with you on this one. I’ve been sticking to a more natural look most of the time, which has definitely been a huge shift from last year. When I do wear makeup, I tend to wear the same products over and over again. Every time you mention the DC latte palette, it makes me want it! I know I would get use out of it, because of the neutrals, but since I’m not using up that much makeup (I have hit pan on two eyeshadows this year, so that’s great), I’ll probably have to get it sometime in 2021 when we hit a new normal. Great post Cleia, I might make a Youtube video on this topic! Thanks so much for the inspiration πŸ™‚ xx

It’s crazy how much our routines have changed over one year! It’s hard to want to put on a ton of makeup when it’s just going to get covered up with a mask anyways.
It really is a great palette, I love the formula! So soft & Buttery.
I will catch up on your videos! I would be interested to see what your new normal routine looks like next year. Take care! x

That Too Faced bronzer and OFRA highlight are stunning! I agree that reaching for staple products you know work has been the trend this year. Lipstick will always be the product I have a weakness for but I’ve realised more what shades I reach for most often and I’ve been through my collection a few times shopping my stash and making piles to pass on/sell πŸ™‚ hope you have an enjoyable Christmas and day off work!

Right!? I’m so obsessed with the pie design on the bronzer, I almost didn’t want to use it and ruin it!
I’ve probably bought more lipstick than anything this year, but I’ve stopped since masks became mandatory everywhere. But it’s good to go through and shop your stash, I need to make more of a habit of it!
      Happy Holidays! x

Wow, that TF bronzer is absolutely gorgeous-looking! Honestly, everything in this post looks so lovely, and I can see why you’ve been reaching for them even when you don’t wanna wear much makeup. I totally get it about the physical/emotional exhaustion; I think we’ve all felt it this year! Fingers & toes crossed that this time next year is A LOT different for us all!

    • December 15, 2020 / 4:40 pm

I looked for that bronzer forever!! I was so happy when I finally found it. It took me a while to start using it because I didn’t want to ruin the design haha
Here’s hoping!! I’ve heard that we should all be vaccinated by next Fall, it’s going to be a long year until then. Stay Safe! x

      • December 19, 2020 / 9:18 am

Yes, that’s what they keep saying so fingers crossed. Without doubt this winter will be long and brutal. You too!

Your pictures are just chef’s kiss😍 and how gorgeous is that highlighter? May have to try that and the pixi palette x

    • December 15, 2020 / 4:35 pm

Thank you so much! The highlighter is so gorgeous isn’t it!? I think it’s limited edition which is too bad.
Pixi has tons of great everyday palettes, I hope you can try one sometime! Thanks for reading x
