Hello beauties! Today I’m sharing my thoughts on one of my favourite moisturizers for dry skin — the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost line has been a favourite of mine for years. I reviewed this moisturizer way back when I started my blog, but obviously back then I was still figuring out photography and how to review products. I wanted to revisit that post and bring you my current thoughts on the moisturizer.
Two years ago I included this moisturizer on my Top 10 Winter Skin Savers blog post, and more recently I shared a review of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen. That sunscreen is amazing for everyday, and I really expected nothing less from the Hydro Boost line.
If you want to know why I love the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream for Extra Dry Skin so much — Keep reading!
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream for Extra Dry Skin Review
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream isn’t the cheapest moisturizer at the drugstore. In Canada it retails around $25 for an 1.7oz jar, however if you watch for sales you can often find it for $17.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart. After having reviewed a long lineup of other moisturizers from the drugstore I can honestly say that the Hydro Boost Gel Cream is the most hydrating & lightweight formula I have ever used.
There is also a regular version of the Hydro Boost Gel Cream (here) that is not quite as hydrating as the Extra Dry Skin version. It is meant for normal-oily skin types but my skin is desert dry! The Extra Dry Skin version is perfect for me.
Note: Neutrogena is NOT cruelty free

I know that many people aren’t a fan of jar style packaging but I personally don’t mind. You can use a spatula to scoop out the product but I honestly just use my hands. I would be concerned if I was constantly changing moisturizers which would make this product last much longer, but I generally stick to one at a time and finish up a jar in about a month.
If the packaging is an issue for you the regular gel cream is available with SPF in a tube with a pump, but not the Extra Dry Skin Gel Cream.
The texture of the Hydro Boost Gel Cream for Extra Dry Skin is most definitely a combination of gel & cream. Surprise, surprise with a name like that. I love gel moisturizers because they don’t leave my skin feeling heavy or greasy. I may have dry skin but I don’t like feeling a ton of product on my face.
The formula glides across my skin without any tugging and feels incredibly quenching. If there was a hydro boost body cream I would definitely buy it!
The Hydro Boost Gel Cream Moisturizer eliminates all of my dry patches within a few days and it keeps them gone. The product has no smell and it absorbs quickly into the skin thanks to hyaluronic acid.
Because Hydro Boost Gel Cream is a gel consistency silicone primers will pill on top of it. It’s unfortunate but I don’t find that I need those pore filling or texture reducing primers as much when I’m using this moisturizer because of how well it keeps texture at bay.
I also never feel like my pores are clogged — It’s essentially perfect! I wish I had repurchased Hydro Boost sooner because I forgot how much I loved it.
