NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil Review

Hello beauties! We’re talking about the Nyx Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil today. I’m so happy that I’m able to bring you some reviews of new base products. As most of you know I don’t really buy more base products than I need at any one time. I don’t want to be wasteful with my shopping and liquid products like foundations & concealers generally go bad for me before powder products so I try to only have one or two on the go at once.

Recently I finished up my Almay Clear Complexion Foundation as well as my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer so I was able to do a little bit of shopping at the drugstore to replace those products.

I picked up four new products at the drugstore lately. They are the:

and last but not least, the Nyx Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil which we are talking about today. Without further ado, let’s dive in!

Nyx Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil Review

Reveal your freshest self with our new Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil! Simply smooth  this weightless formula onto the complexion for light, breathable coverage with a  seamless and satiny finish — NYX

The Nyx Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil retails for $16CAD and contains 0.91oz of product. It comes in 12 different shades. I honestly feel that NYX was lazy with the shade range. According the the website “each flexible hue feels like a second skin“. What I hear in the word “flexible” is that they expect you to wear a shade that only sort of matches your skintone.

Yes, anyone can make a shade work for them but even with a tinted moisturizer type product it’s obvious when you’re wearing the wrong shade.

I chose the lightest shade, Pale Light. It has pink tones that look very strange on my skin, but it was the only shade light enough for me. I have to spend time blending this product all down my neck and over my chest to cover the yellow tones in my skin. So while it might be “flexible” to NYX that I can still use this product I’m frankly not impressed with the work I have to do to make a product that doesn’t match me work.

Packaging

The NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veils are packaged in a squeeze tube with a long nozzle. It’s a little strange to me, but it’s not the worst packaging I’ve seen. I haven’t had a problem dispensing the product so far.

There is a little coloured strip on each bottle to indicate the colour of the Tinted Skin Veil, however I found these strips to be highly inaccurate. For the shade Pale Light the product inside actually matched the pink bottle itself, not the colour strip. According to the colour strip Pale Light should have leaned more yellow than pink. Get a tester if you’re planning on purchasing this product.

Application

Because Nyx Bare With Me is closer to a tinted moisturizer than a foundation the formula is thick but absorbs easily. It’s easy to blend with my fingers or apply with a sponge. I like to apply this product all over my face & neck with my fingers, then use a sponge to diffuse any streaks that may not have rubbed in.

I prefer not to use a sponge for the entire application because this formula seems to clog up the sponge rather than soaking in.

NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil

Coverage

This Tinted Skin Veil is very light coverage. It’s great for no-makeup look days when I want to smooth out my skin tone and don’t have a ton of imperfections to cover up. I don’t think that the coverage lasts a full 8 hours, but when I’m just doing a no-makeup look I don’t mind a bit of fading my the 6 or 7 hour mark.

My powdered & cream makeup products seem to apply well on top of this product as a base. I haven’t had any issues with products not blending properly!

I do personally use it as a foundation, not as an all in one product. This means that I still apply a moisturizer & SPF underneath. If you have oily skin you might be able to skip moisturizer and use this Tinted Skin Veil as both moisturizer and foundation.

Nyx Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil is non-comedogenic, meaning it shouldn’t clog pores. So far my pores can agree!

Pros:

  • Evens out skin tone with light coverage
  • Non-Comedogenic
  • Hydrating

Cons:

  • Shade Range is lacking
  • Bottles don’t accurately depict shade inside
  • Doesn’t contain a full oz of product

Do you prefer tinted moisturizer or foundation?

Luckily the cons of this product have more to do with shade range and value, not the overall performance of the product. I do’t regret my purchase but I know I won’t be buying the NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil again unless they add a pale shade with yellow undertones. Wearing the wrong shade is such a pain!

Such a shame they were lazy with the shade range & the tube/nozzle looks so small! Nice that it won’t clog your pores though!

The shade range is awful! I can’t see it working for a lot of people, and it’s a shame! I think I would have liked it much better if it actually matched me!

While this product seems like it might have a shade for me, this doesn’t seem like the type of product I would use. I’m surprised in this day and age that they don’t have a lot of shades. As of now, I’m thinking of trying out the maybelline dream cc cream and the new smashbox foundation! Great post Cleia xxx

I dont normally use tinted moisturizers. So this probably wouldn’t be on my list to begin with. Shade range is terrible so thats one more reason to not go for it lol

I hoped that the shade would at least match me, it’s too bad I was wrong 🙁 Oh well!

It’s the only thing I hate about drugstore shades, you don’t get to try them before purchasing so you’ll never know if you’re getting the right one or not.

Very true. They need testers at drugstores!

Thank you for telling it like it is. Lazy is right and “flexible” has to be the biggest marketing spin I’ve heard in awhile!

    • September 22, 2019 / 10:05 pm

it’s definitely a marketing ploy, I don’t like it at all!

Great review! This product actually sounds amazing to my ears! I love sheer to light coverage tinted moisturizers cause that’s what I wear everyday. Even the shade you got sounds right for me because I lean on the cooler side of neutral.

But getting a mismatched shade sucks, I know. Most of the time at the drugstore I have to get the wrong shade if I want to try something, which always angers me. Everything is either too dark or too yellow.

    • September 22, 2019 / 10:03 pm

We’re always so opposite for base makeup undertones haha. This would probably match you pretty well!

I wish that drugstores had testers, it would solve so many problems!

      • September 23, 2019 / 1:47 pm

It would be SO incredibly helpful to have drugstore testers. When are they going to get on board already?? Ulta sorta has testers, but certainly not for everything. Sigh.

        • September 27, 2019 / 10:24 pm

It’s so annoying! It would prevent so many returns afterwards

            Agreed!

I saw this product some time ago at the drugstore but did not proceed to buy it which I’m glad now after reading your review! I do want to have a go at trying a NYX base though at some point. So far, I have just tried their NYX HD Concealer (it’s ok, not my favourite and I feel like the wand can be a bit more generous with how much product it picks up!) and the Micro Brow Pencil (this is a firm favourite).

    • September 22, 2019 / 10:00 pm

I’d love to try some of the NYX foundations too! Micro brow is amazing, and I had the same thoughts as you on the concealer. Thanks for reading! x
