In February I picked up a few Nyx products to try out. I needed a new concealer and the NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer Wand was in my price range. Here’s my review after using it for a few weeks!
Packaging
I really like the packaging considering it’s a drugstore product. It’s nothing fancy, but the design is minimal yet attractive. The concealer wand is a deer foot (doe foot? Are they interchangeable?).
Coverage
The formula gives light to medium coverage. It’s not too thick, not water thin. I was hoping it would work well as an under eye concealer, but it wouldn’t blend well into my under eye area at all. When I used a wet blending sponge under my eyes it caked & creased immediately. Setting powder didn’t help. The concealer worked well for minor blemishes on my chin and nose.
Longevity
I didn’t find this to be long lasting. My skin type is dry, and my winter skin type is drier than dry, so I couldn’t blame oil for this. My under eye circles returned within a few hours, same for blemishes. I’m now using this for lighter makeup days when I feel well rested and my skin is fairly clear.
Price & Shade Selection
On the Nyx Canada website this retails for $8 with twenty three shades available but when I purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart it was about $10. There were maybe ten shades available in store.
Final thoughts
The Nyx HD Studio Photogenic Concealer is affordable but I don’t think it lives up to what I’ve come to expect from the brand. Nyx is known to be a brand that rivals the quality of high end products while maintaining drugstore prices so I was disappointed. I feel like there are better drugstore concealers out there for the same price. That being said it’s not awful and I will be finishing it before I purchase another concealer.
Have you used NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer?

Dang, I can’t believe it didn’t perform well. I haven’t tried this concealer yet but I wanted to….I’ll continue to wait on it, lol. As for recommendations, if you haven’t tried the Maybelline Fit me yet then I definitely recommend that! Covergirl also came out with a new concealer recently, but be careful picking your shade. The one I picked up was perfect shade the first two uses but then it randomly oxidized in the tube, and now the shade is too dark for me.
I was so disappointed in it! I usually love nyx products so I was pretty surprised at how much I didn’t like it. I haven’t read any other reviews for it though, so I’m sure it works for someone out there! Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll try out the fit me next time I pick up a concealer!
