Why hello there! I hope you guys are having a lovely Summer. I don’t know about you, but one thing I always change up with the seasons is my nail polish. I tend to reach for dark moody shades in the winter and then pull out my bright vibrant colors in the warmer seasons. There’s something so fun about pink or yellow nail polish during the Summertime!
I’ve been wearing OPI’s Hidden Prism Collection this July. This six piece collection is so beautiful and bright! I’ve worn every polish in the collection already. Today I have some photos of the collection and my thoughts on it. Please keep in mind that I am not very skilled at nail polish art, or painting my nails in general but I do enjoy spending the time doing my nails every week. Especially in this covid-19 world I think a lot of us aren’t comfortable going to the salon, so it’s nice to have a few different colours to use at home.
Nail Polish Canada sent me this collection in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
O.P.I Hidden Prism Collection Review
The OPI Hidden Prism collection contains six bright shimmery nail polishes for Summertime. The polishes do not contain toluene, formaldehyde or DBP. I do wish that OPI was considered 5 free, there are so many brands out there with 5 to 7 free polishes so hopefully OPI follows suit soon!
The shades in the collection don’t form a complete rainbow but it’s pretty close. There’s a yellow, orange, green, blue, purple and a pink!
Out of the six polishes in the OPI Hidden Prism Collection I definitely have a favorite: the The green shade, Gleam On! The green makes me think of gardening and forest walks. It’s a very wearable plant-like green, I’ve been enjoying wearing this shade. I also really love the purple. Purple is my favourite colour, so Rainbows a Go Go has been on my toes for the last week and a half. It hasn’t chipped yet on my toes, since I don’t use my feet to wash dishes or anything like that xD
The Pink shade, She’s A Prismatic is a great summer nail choice. It’s the most opaque shade in this collection, but everything does lean sheer.
The blue, Pigment of my Imagination, reminds me of clear summer skies. We haven’t seen many of those this summer, it’s been extra rainy lately, but I can channel those hot sunny day vibes through this polish.
The Orange, Magic Hour has the cutest name! It’s a shimmery cantaloupe orange, and I’m a fan. This is such a fun summer picnic shade!
The yellow polish, Ray-Diance is my least favourite shade. I tan very olive/yellow in the summer so it doesn’t quite look right against my skin tone. This one is also super sheer, even with two coats the yellow wasn’t very visible.
The polishes in the OPI Hidden Prism Collection are on the sheer side, so they aren’t opaque in one, or even two coats. I can always see the white tips of my nails through the polish, but two coats still looks good on my nails with most of the polishes. The pink was a lot more opaque than the rest of the collection.
Because the Hidden Prism polishes are sheer they’re more of a subtle pop of color instead of a full in your face neon opaque pop if you know what I mean. I think they’re really soft & pretty! They also don’t show chips as obviously as an opaque polish.
They do have some shine & microshimmer, but there aren’t chunky glitter particles in the polishes. This means they’re easy to remove, so yay!
Back in my February Favourites I shared my new favourite nail polish remover from Mineral Fusion. I’ve been using it to switch up my nail polish this month and it removes my OPI polish quickly & efficiently, meaning minimal cotton ball waste. I usually need only one cotton ball for both hands, where as Quo polish remover had me going through at least three or four for each polish change.
I didn’t have any issues with application. OPI has such a great formula, it is chip resistant and applies beautifully without any streaks or clumps. I always gravitate towards OPI nail polish when I get my nails done professionally, I find it lasts much longer than the polishes I would typically buy at the drugstore.
Of course I still managed to chip my nails within a couple of days, but that’s completely normal for me. I use my hands a lot throughout the day from washing dishes to playing guitar, so I’ve gotten used to swapping out my nail polish every few days. I will say that normally I get a few chips on the first day or two and I didn’t chip my nails until at least day three. For me that’s pretty good.
Which OPI Hidden Prism Polish is your favourite?
I’m always impressed with OPI polishes, the formula is really solid and consistent across the board. The hidden prism collection is no exception. The formula is long-lasting, especially if you wear gloves to wash dishes! I definitely need to pick up a pair…
As long as the shades speak to you I think you’ll like the polish. Let me know what your favourite shade is and if you picked up the Hidden Prism Collection from OPI. Thanks for reading!
