PIXI Pixiglow Cake Palettes Review | Gilded Bare & Champagne Glow

I’m incredibly excited to be reviewing two  Pixi Pixiglow Cake palettes for you today. The reason I’m so excited is that I was sent a real PR package from Pixi Beauty. I had no idea it was coming in the mail! I’ve received makeup and skincare products from brands before but usually through influencer networks where I will get one product in exchange for a review.

These Pixi beauty products showed up unannounced at my door without any written obligation to actually post about them. But you guys know I’m going to write about the Pixiglow cake palettes! As a blogger I want to review makeup and skincare for you as much as I can but as a working woman with a job and financial obligations I can’t afford to buy every release (or even most of them). I’m so thankful that Pixi Beauty sent me some products to review, but as you guys know I will always give you the real deal in my reviews, free products or not. So what did I think of the Pixi Pixiglow Cake palettes, and are they worth your money? It’s time to find out!

This light-diffusing palette helps to achieve a naturally healthy, radiant complexion with flushed apples of the cheeks, subtle contouring and glowing highlights. The shades in the gradient make it easy to create a sheer wash of luminous colour that enhances your PixiGlow! — Pixibeauty

The Pixiglow Cake Palettes from Pixi Beauty/Pixi by Petra retail for $28USD and function as a face palette with a gradient that transitions from bronzer to blush to highlight. The Pixiglow Cake palettes contain ceramides to moisturize, peptides to plump & firm the skin and grape seed extract to improve skin elasticity. There are two glow cake palettes to choose from, Pink Champagne Glow and Gilded Bare Glow. Below are the ingredients as listed in Pixi’s website.

Of course I’m obsessed with the overall presentation of the products in my PR box, but that’s not what you guys are super interested in is it? My box is cute, but if you buy the Pixiglow Cake palettes in store you won’t be buying the same box so we’re going to gloss over that. Pixi Beauty products have a very distinct style. They’ve branded their products well, the green they use in all their packaging should be renamed “Pixi Green”. The cardboard packaging is their typical green shade with a gold outline. It’s simple but effective.

The palettes themselves still feel like drugstore palettes, but drugstore doesn’t necessarily mean bad. They feel less “high end” to me because the palettes are made of plastic as opposed to metal or a non-plastic material. Plastic packaging always feels like a drugstore material to me and there isn’t a way around that.

Plastic aside, Pixi still made the palettes sleek and pretty with the gold lettering on the lid and the gorgeous ombre effect between the bronzer, blush & highlight shades.

The Gilded Bare Pixiglow Cake palette initially appealed to me the most out of the two palettes. The ombre transition in the Gilded Bare palette looks more peachy and subtle in the pan. My immediate thought was that the Pink Champagne Pixiglow cake would be way too bold against my pale skin. The pink in the center of the palette looks very vibrant and I wasn’t expecting it to work with my skin tone. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I actually found that the Gilded Bare wasn’t pigmented enough, it was harder to build up on my skin because of how light the shades are. The Champagne Glow palette quickly became my favourite of the two. The Champagne Glow palette also needs to be built up to achieve full pigmentation. The formula is perfect for building up the brighter blush against my skintone. I prefer blushes and bronzers that are buildable, they’re easier to work with and are less likely to make me look like a clown. The highlighters don’t pop as much as I would like on my cheekbones but they’re subtle and pretty.

Finish & Formula

The Pixiglow Cake Palettes are luminous so each shade will add some glow to your face. If you prefer matte bronzers and blushes than you probably already know that these palettes aren’t for you. They are called Pixiglow Cake after all.

The bronzers are so pretty, they add a gorgeous radiant youthful glow to my face. I’m still in my twenties but there are products that will make me look older and some that seem to imbue me with the essence of my earlier twenties. Pixiglow Cake is one of the latter. The blush tones pair so well with the bronzers and create a natural radiant look. The powder blends easily on my skin and it’s hard to over-do it with these colours.

I’ll be reaching for these Pixiglow Cake palettes mainly as blush & bronzer duos. The highlighters are nice but they don’t give me the spotlight highlighter look that I’m usually wanting. I also noticed that by the end of my work day the highlighter wasn’t noticeable anymore on my cheekbones. The blush and bronzer also lost some of it’s radiance but I could still see a little bit of both on my cheeks. That’s so strange to me because my Pixi Beauty Beach rose blush from my September 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag doesn’t fade on my skin! For $28USD I feel like the powder should have lasted a little longer on my skin. Out of the two palettes I prefer the highlighter in the Gilded palette and the blush & bronzer in the Champagne palette.

Bottom Line

Overall I’m enjoying the Pixiglow Cake Palettes. I don’t see myself using them for an ultra glam night out, but they’re well suited for a radiant everyday glow. These palettes would also be great for travel. I noticed during my last few vacations that I wanted to adventure more than fuss over makeup so having an “everyday” face palette like these would be perfect in my travel bag.

The Pixiglow Cake palettes are on the more expensive side for drugstore palettes. I think it would be nice to have a smaller ombre palette with just the blushes and bronzers for a lower price. I’ll probably be reaching for a different highlighter when I use them. If you’re into more of a subtle glow all around I think you would really enjoy these palettes.

Thanks for reading, talk soon! xx

I completely agree with all of your thoughts, although I haven’t noticed any fading with mine. I also thought GildedBare glow would be my favourite but it also wasn’t pigmented enough on me. I thought it would be for sure on you since you are a bit lighter than me, but I guess not! I was hoping it would work better for me once I got back to my natural skin tone, but I’ll keep it in any case to try it out then. I love the Champagne Glow shade. Pretty good and buildable pigmentation, and I love the bronzer! The shades work so well together. I haven’t used the highlighter as an actual highlighter because I knew it wouldn’t be what I wanted, but I have used it as a blush topper to add a bit more luminosity! Lovely pictures and review, and I’m glad we had the same experience with these products!

That’s great that yours isn’t fading! I don’t know why mine isn’t wearing as long :S
I’m shocked that the Gilded Bare palette was too light. I can use it but I have to really layer on the bronzer to deepen it. Champagne glow is perfect though!
I’ll need to try that blush topper trick! I never thought to do that.
And thank you again for sharing the brand ambassador page with me! I wouldn’t have gotten these palettes if it wasn’t for you 🙂

The ombre effect is so nice to look at! I wish the highlight would have lasted a bit longer on my skin but overall I like the palettes 🙂

Does these palettes only come in two shades?

Yes only two. Just Gilded Bare and Champagne Glow!

I got this too but I’m still yet to swatch them, I wasn’t happy with how my first lot of photos came out so haven’t touched them! haha the Champagne Glow looks great on you, i thought bareglow might be my favourite too, but if it’s too pale on you I’m wondering whether I’ll have the same issues!

I hate when that happens, it’s so hard to get great photos at this time of year! Most of my photos have been coming out super blue lately.
I think because they’re buildable you might be ok, but it’s hard to say. I hope at least one of the palettes works out for you. I’ll watch for your review! Thanks for reading and commenting!

Congrats on getting on Pixi’s PR list! Those palettes look beautiful, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. I love Pixi products, but I’m less exposed to them these days since my local Target recently yanked the brand from the store. Sad times!

Thank you so much! It’s definitely exciting for me 😊 Oh no, why did they do that? That’s a shame!

      • December 18, 2018 / 1:14 pm

No idea. Maybe it wasn’t selling through or they wanted to make room for other things, but it sucks. I used to buy their products, but now no more.
