Lately life has kept me away from this little space, but when my Sydney Grace Cosmetics haul arrived I was so excited to photograph some makeup again!
Every year Sydney Grace Cosmetics has a Christmas in July sale which features a new shopping deal every day for about two weeks. I couldn’t resist the mystery bag deal, I love surprises. Shoppers could choose from a warm, bright or cool toned mystery bag. and I chose the cool toned bag. TBH I actually thought the distinction was for the colour of the bag itself, which it was, but the products inside also reflected the choice option.
I also want to say kudos to SGC for catering to many different skin tones. They are one of the only brands I’ve seen making an effort to provide both light & deep options for their products and palettes. They’ve been doing this long before the Black Lives Matter movement started gaining more media attention. I respect that a lot, and I’m happy to support a brand that strives to be inclusive!
We’ll get to the mystery bag at the end, I want to start with the eyeshadows I chose. I ordered six shadows last year and they always perform spectacularly, so I knew I wanted to add more to my collection.
I ended up adding way more than I really needed, I chose ten shadows in total! All of these shades plus my existing SGC collection create my own personal everyday essential palette. The warm apricot and gold tones combined with some cooler greens and pastels make some really interesting combinations.
I tried to order an empty palette from Sydney Grace to put my singles in, but for some reason I got an error at checkout saying it couldn’t ship to my country. In the end I ordered a $20 empty palette on Amazon. It has a pretty marbled design and contains a mirror!
My Custom Sydney Grace Palette
There is something special about an eyeshadow palette full of single shadows that you personally hand selected yourself. This palette is my ultimate all seasons, all moods palette. I’ve got my cool toned grungy shades including Midnight Green which I chose because I wanted something similar to the eyeshadow Yennefer wears in The Witcher series. Then I’ve got a whole warm side of the palette with my toffee & peachy matte shades, and some warm apricot tones.
I feel like I can create any look I want with this palette, it’s something I’ll reach for year round. I’m especially loving the grey toned shades that came in my mystery bag, now that I’m writing music again I feel that my rocker grunge side is coming out.
The Mystery Bag
I chose my Sydney Grace Cosmetics mystery bag specifically because I liked the look of the grey bag the most out of the three available. After I ordered I realized that the shadows inside actually corresponded to the colour of the bag, but I’m not mad about it.
I don’t have many cool toned shadows in my collection, so the smokey grey and lilac shades in the mystery bag definitely give me something I didn’t already have. These shades are so smokey and gorgeous!
The mystery bag also included a blush. It’s purple, and definitely not something that I would have chose for myself, but I’ve been experimenting with it and I actually really like it! It has a slight shimmer/sheen and it also makes a really beautiful eyeshadow as well. In addition to the blush there was also a very prismatic purple loose highlighter as well as a loose glitter.
I was kind of hoping there would be a lip cream in the bag to try out, but I’m happy with everything that was in the bag. 10/10 would order again.
Have you tried Sydney Grace Cosmetics?
If you want to know a little more about the formula I do have a review up of the last set of single shadows I ordered, the formula is very consistent in my experience. Even though the customs charges sucked I still do recommend this brand. The shadows are maybe a little more expensive than ColourPop, but you’re supporting a smaller business and the quality is really incredible. Plus their shade selection is amazing!
