Oh my gosh everyone, something marvellous has happened! The Balm is FINALLY sold at Shoppers Drug Mart! In 2016 I wrote a post called Beauty Brands I wish Were Sold At Sephora and the Balm was one of the brands I wished I could get my hands on. I saw a full display at Shoppers last week and I was so excited! And the best part was…
The Meet Matte Hughes Liquid Lipsticks were priced at $9.99CAD. I honestly thought that it was a mistake, and it might have been because these lipsticks normally retail for $17USD. Get them now before Shoppers Drug Mart realizes their mistake! I picked up the shade Honest and have been wearing it every day for the last week. Never have I been so excited to try a liquid lipstick.
The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Liquid Lipstick Review
Is your lipstick relationship complicated? Then it’s time to Meet Matt(e) Hughes, our collection of liquid lipsticks that come in 18 swoon-worthy shades. With a matte finish and long-lasting formula, your color will stay true, without being clingy.
The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Liquid Lipstick not only has a clever name, but it’s incredibly affordable in Canada right now. In the United States this lipstick retails for $17USD and contains 0.25oz of product. There are 18 different shades to choose from ranging from pinky nudes to deeper reds.
The packaging of the Balm’s liquid lipsticks are sooo cute! I love the cardboard container that holds the lipstick, it’s done up like a newspaper with a cute black and white photo of a guy (matte hughes?) and girl sharing a milkshake with the caption “Bright, smooth talker seeking: Girl with a great smile.” Adorbs!
The lipstick itself has the same cute photo with the Balm’s logo below it on the tube and features a doe foot applicator.
The SMELL is divine! My husband & I both agreed that it smells like Flor de Cana, which is a vanilla spiced rum. I could smell it all day!
I had a slight issue applying this lipstick. Normally when I apply a liquid lipstick I will apply it on my bottom lip, then rub my lips together before touching up the cupids bow. I do not recommend rubbing your lips together before the lipstick is dry. For some reason it pushed all of the pigment to the outer edges of my lips leaving the centre bare.
I have to do the full instagram swatch thing where I swipe the lipstick across the bottom & top lip separately. It’s not a big deal, just something I have to get used to since my usual way of applying lipstick doesn’t work.
You need to let this lipstick sit on the lips for a minute or two to let it dry. It’s tacky at first but it will eventually dry down to a matte finish.
Aside from the issues that I initially had with the application of the Meet Matte Hughes Liquid Lipstick overall it wears pretty well. I need to be careful eating and drinking, we had a mojito & pizza night and it was gone by the end of the night. But keep in mind that I did eat a lot of Pizza!
It didn’t fade un-naturally or smudge all over my face either which was a bonus.
When I’m just going about my day normally I have maybe a cup of coffee and a snack in the afternoon and I’ll typically need to touch up my makeup after the 4 hour mark.
I don’t think that Meet Matte Hughes liquid Lipstick is nearly as long wearing as The Balm claims, it’s literally written on the packaging and I don’t find that it lasts any longer than a liquid lipstick from ColourPop. I’m not going to complain for the $9.99CAD I paid for this lipstick, but I don’t think I would buy another if they priced it to match the American SRP.
- Smells great
- no feathering
- doesn’t cake into lip lines
- fades naturally
- Not as long lasting as I hoped
- Expensive (in the US)
- Application is a little tricky
Have you tried the Balm Cosmetics?
Let me know what you think of the Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipstick? The packaging gets an A+ from me, and the performance is a solid B. This isn’t my perfect lipstick but I certainly like it enough to buy more shades if the price stays under $10CAD!
