The Ordinary 23% Vitamin C suspension + HA Spheres 2% Review

I’ve been talking about skincare a lot on my blog because it’s the only part of my beauty routine that has really changed lately. I haven’t been buying much new makeup so the only products rotating in & out of my beauty room have been skincare related. I shared a collective Drugstore & Sephora Haul a while back and one of the products in it was the 23 % Vitamin C Suspension + HA Spheres 2% from The Ordinary.

Vitamin C (also known as L-Absorbic Acid) is know to even out texture and firm the skin to help with anti-aging. It’s usually seen formulated with a 5 – 10% concentration though so I was a little bit nervous to try this 23% concentration…

In case you haven’t heard of The Ordinary they’re a brand under the umbrella of Deciem. They are cruelty free and do not sell to mainland China. Brands that sell to China can’t be cruelty free because China requires animal testing of all beauty products sold in their country. There’s a strong distinction between brands that claim to be cruelty free and those that say they are but also sell to China. It’s not possible to do both.

The Ordinary 23% Vitamin C + HA Spheres 2% Review

The Ordinary’s 23% Vitamin C Suspension + HA Spheres 2% retails for $5.80CAD and contains 1oz of product. How inexpensive is that!? TO is incredibly affordable which is one of the reasons the brand is taking the beauty world by storm.

This product claims to brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of aging. The Ordinary gives a lot of information on what to expect with this product and warns that because of the high concentration of L-Absorbic Acid this product may cause irritation or a tingling/burning sensation. They also warned that the product would feel “gritty” on the skin during the first minute or so of application.

Application

Polished & Inspired warned me that this product burned her skin the first time that she used it so I was naturally a little scared to use it. I remembered this after I had purchased it so I thought well, I might as well try it anyways. My skin luckily didn’t react in the same way, and though I experienced a tingling/burning sensation I wouldn’t call it painful — I wouldn’t call it mild either so keep that in mind!

If I used this Vitamin C continuously throughout the week I would notice the tingling/burning less over time, but if I spaced out my usage I would notice it again. I don’t recommend exfoliating before you use The Ordinary’s 23% Vitamin C because it would really sting my skin. #lessonlearned

The Ordinary 23% Vitamin C

I noticed the grittiness of the 23% Vitamin C mixture just like The Ordinary had warned. If the grittiness bothers you it can be mixed with a moisturizer to help with the texture.

Results

I love the detailed product information on TO’s website and the price point… But in all honesty I didn’t notice a difference in my skin.

My skin didn’t look brighter nor did I experience any reduction of fine lines. But just because there wasn’t a visual difference for me doesn’t mean it’s a useless product. Polished & Inspired noted in her review that it helped with hyperpigmentation. If hyperpigmentation is an issue for you it might help.

Unfortunately I will not be repurchasing this variety of vitamin C. I was recently sent the Pixi beauty Vitamin C Collection and after a week of using those products I noticed my skin was looking brighter and less dull. Clearly vitamin C works, this formulation just didn’t do much for me. It’s weird given how high of a concentration 23% is that the Pixi products worked better for me 🤔

Wait I got confused, Jkissa has another collab??
Good to know that it’s possible for there to be some kind of reaction the first time using it,.though its understandable since it does contain a higher amount of vitamin c than usual.
Interesting that the Pixi one worked better for you than this one, I almost wonder that since it’s in a higher concentration that it was too much for your skin. Hmm…i wonder how well it would work for me.
    Great review!

Sorry no, no new collab, I wrote the intro when I had first picked this up and it arrived at the same time as her elf collab. I’ve gotta change that!
I think the Pixi one must have a lower concentration. I couldn’t find out what the exact concentration is of the pixi vitamin C. This one from TO is definitely higher than I should have started with lol.

      Thanks for reading!

I have never tried any of The Ordinaryโ€™s products but they always come highly recommended. Iโ€™d definitely have to mix such a high concentration of vitamin c with a moisturizer!

Yeah I think I should have started with a lower concentration! I have a list of other products I’d love to try from TO as well ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for reading!
